This is a cool place (literally at times - last time the air conditioning was so fierce we left without lingering) with a diverse menu, good staff and a nice atmosphere. If the weather's good, there are tables on a little terrace overlooking Broad Street (not quite Barcelona, but fun all the same). Good veggie selection, and decent value: I like the halloumi fritters and the mushrooms with stuffed goat's cheese. There's a section of main courses too but the tapas are more fun.

Iâ¬"ve been described as a bitter and twisted Malaysian for my review of JOM Makan and for that reason I should go back to KL instead. Well what can I say, just maybe not quite yet. The discovery of Makan will only go on further to preserve my status as an honorary Londoner.

Makan is â¬Üeatâ¬" in Malay and this place fully justifies the name with its authentic cooking and value. During lunch hour this place can be chaotic, if youâ¬"re in a hurry go for the excellent rice combination dish of Nasi Campur, whereby you can choose from the alluring display of ready cooked dishes to go with the rice. The cook to order dishes that include the Malaysian national dish of Nasi Lemak and my favourite Bee Hoon Goreng (Fried Vermicelli) were equally good. You can quite easily get away with Â£7.00 a head to include a soft drink. As this place is also a cafÃ©, street snacks are also offered to go with your impromptu cuppa.

This is homecoming material for yours truly. I love London and I also love Makan, truly lah.

After a hard morning's shopping this is the perfect combination of a nice place to have some tea, watch the world go by and eat delicious food. Two chicken curry puffs for Â£1 and samosas for Â£1.50 as I remember) and that will fill you up. Should you need more thereare many many options of curry's and snacks including sweet and savour. The banana buttons are particularly nice. This malaysian cafe is definitely worth a visit if you're in the market whether for lunch or just a short break. There isn't much seating but people are usually friendly and share tables. The tea comes in english breakfast as well as fruit teas and there is fresh orange juice too. Great, quirky place to eat/ relax.

While it might not be the most fantastic food you've ever eaten, it deserves a 4 star rating because it cannot be beat when it comes to handing your cash over.

Unbelievably cheap, the food is really tasty and the staff are lovely. An excellent place to visit when you're in Portobello Road and you don't want to have to pay a small fortune to have something to eat.

Took a friend here who has a wheat, gluten and dairy alergy and the Manageress was amazingly helpful. Made the whole process really simple, and believe us - its not normally like that! She advised us on food that was pre prepared (suprisingly not a great deal) and made us all feel at home.

This place is great...the pies are top notch...loverly mash and a blinding cup of tea for about £4....

These places should be encouraged and we should support them by giving them our custom. Cheap, honest food. Bring it on!

Cheap friendly Malaysian grub...can get busy and choices very familiar when returning.
Best of a limited crop in Portabello Road,
