Not just the food and wine, which speaks for itself, but the flawless service, charming front of house and general sense of well being which settles itself on you like a cashmere shawl for the rest of the day.

The secret of extracting this much money so willingly from diners is the way in which every diner is treated as the most important table in the room. Whether you choose the gastronomic heights of the tasting menu at £115, or stick to the astonishingly good value set lunch menu at £40, the attention is just the same. Service is very French - lots and lots of immaculate waiters shimmer up to do everything from taking your order to bringing you the truffle of the day to admire - but you never feel 'bothered', and staff can read tables well. If you want the full flourishing experience, it's yours; if you'd prefer a lower-key meal, you'll barely notice the magical way plates appear and disappear.

And the details! The explosion of flavours in the amuse bouches, the strawberry ice cream chocolates on a cloud of dry ice, the little silver tree of truffles... Admittedly, options on the set menu are limited if you're a veggie, but that's about the only drawback I can think of.

My boyfriend and I reward ourselves with lunch here as often as we can persuade ourselves we really deserve a treat. It might end up costing the same as a cheap European minibreak, after he's had a go on the astonishing winelist, but by the time we leave, Chelsea has taken on a rosy glow that makes us feel as if we ARE abroad. In short: the most expensive place we eat at in London, but the only one that I come out of feeling it's been money well spent.

The food here is on another level and the service is flawless. I could talk about the food for hours becaus there wasa so much and all of it perfect. The list begins: pumkin veloute with white truffle, cepe butter and brioche (wow), seared foie gras with carrot puree, sweetbreads & cabernet sauvignon vinegar (wow, wow), seared scallops with octopus carpaccio & parmesan veloute (wow), truffle stuffed turbot fillet with civet sauce (more please), fillet of sea bass with deep-fried oyster, potatoes, broccoli & caviar sauce (delicious), pressed terrine of chicken, foie gras & truffle, the list goes on and on.

I dined with my wife and two friends. Two of us ate one tasting menu and the others had a different one allowing us to consume some 25 or so dishes. I am really struggling to find a way to convey just how good it all was. At times I thought I might be dreaming and had to pinch myself to make sure it was all happening. The balls of strawberry ice-cream coated in white chocolate arrived at the table with dry ice spilling all over the place, adding to my dream theory.

The service was fantastic. They knew all our names and charmed us all night. We even met Mr Ramsay who chatted with us and was very funny. A tour of the immaculate kitchen followed and by the end of the whole experience I was wondering if anything I would eat in the future would ever be that good again.

Granted, this may have been a dangerous call as a restaurant known for the assortment of animal parts on their menu and a hangover don't seem to go together, but it worked out well.

The menu changes daily with a variety of starters (great for sharing) and a couple of main options. They sell the bread to take way and it is well worth buying too.

First up, I found the service charming especially as we were asking lots of questions in an attempt to figure out exactly what part of the animal was being served. And we got to try some dessert for free! (but couldnâ¬"t fit in anything else after our sample)

I can't remember the details of the food but here is a summary. We shared four starter plates and one main)
Cuttle fish: (Really tasty. Generous portion.)
Quail: (I didn't really try this as its pinky purple flesh scared me. Maybe this is the right colour but my hangover wouldn't let me try it)
Pork belly bits (I forget its proper name: Really moreish. We ate these until we felt ill. And then ate some more.)
Blood cake and poached duck egg: (Pretty tasty but we had a fair bit of this left over as you can only eat so much blood.)
Venison (main): (Nice and succulent)

We shied away from the more 'scary' animail bits such as heart, but they are meant to do that really well if you like that sort of thing.

The food and service is still worthy of the Michelin stars. In Gordon Ramsay's restaurant empire, Claridges comes below Royal Hospital road and the menu and decor reflects that, but in a good way. The experience is much more relax and enjoyable compares to Royal Hospital road. The menu is less 'fancy', more down to earth food, but no less delicious! The wine list is very approachable and has a list of recommended wine so for those non-expert, it is easy to pick one.

We were lucky this year and were treated to a tour of the kitchen! We has the privilege of meeting the head chief and see how such as small kitchen managed to supply top notch food for over 120 covers.

Will we go back next year? Oh yes!

The chicken katsu was spotted on and the portion is generous. Even the regular size will fill you up for lunch, and the large is almost double! Service looks a bit chaotic but is actually really fast and efficient. It's a shame that it locates too far from my office to make it a regular lunch place.
