Review by ceedoubleu

Rating: 4.00
Tags: indian
So lunch in Veeraswamy. First of all, the location: The entrance is a nondescript doorway on Swallow Street with a sign inviting you to take the lift. The Doorman, alas, is long gone. The restaurant itself makes the best of an awkward space, light and airy with good views over Regent and Swallow Streets and an eclectic modern Indian art on the wall. Plenty of candles are in evidence.

We opted for the Tasting menu at £35 a head and in the event, this turned out to be good value. Starters consisted of a mildy spiced lamb with wheat and a further dish of grilled Madagascan prawns with mint sauce and orange chutney, both very tasty although I would have preferred a bit more pepper with the lamb.

Main course were a lamb rogan ghost, chicken massala and a chicken in spicy coconut sauce, accompanied with rice and bread. All were quite delicious and I could really taste the different spices used. The dishes are served in separate cast iron dishes heated with a candle, making them ideal for sharing.

Service was friendly and professional, even if they wouldn't let me have a copy of the menu!

All in all, well worth the money and a thousand miles from a late night High Street curry house.

But please, bring back the Doorman!
