Best Secret of the Lakes - Tagore by Jeremy28

Review by Jeremy28

Rating: 5.00
Tags:
Best Indian restaurant ever! I have lost count the number of times I have eaten here and it just gets better and better. Whenever, I'm in the Lakes on business or holiday, this restaurant is on my to-go list! I have never had a bad meal here. It's a lovely intimate restaurant with friendly staff. Although when my girlfriend and I went, the restaurant was full but the staff kindly managed to fit us in. It was a bit of a wait but the food was delicious- well worth the wait! The Manager even offered complimentary wine for the delay. Can't remember what it is called but I had one of their lamb curries which was melt in the mouth. I would definitely recommend it. If you haven't tried Tagore you are definitely missing out. We would go back every night if I could. If you're english and have never experienced authentic Indian food - this place should be your first port of call!

Spiced Hair by Rocklandlad

Review by Rocklandlad

Rating: 1.00
Tags:
My partner and I ate at the Tagore 23.09.2008. From the start the staff were sullen and abrupt. Just as we were beginning our meal, I noticed a long black hair in the food on my partner's plate. I called a waiter over, who was clearly annoyed at being summoned and was rude to us from the outset.

She snatched the plate away from my partner and went to speak to the chef. Shortly afterwards the manager arrived who was also very aggressive and demanded to know which dish the hair came from. We were unsure, so the two main dishes were grabbed from the table and eventually replaced.

When we were leaving I went to speak to the manager to tell him how annoyed I was that he and his staff were very rude throughout and at no time did we receive an apology from anyone.

I paid the bill because in all fairness they replaced two of the dishes, but in all of the discussion we forgot to check the bill and it wasn't until afterwards we realised that we had also been overcharged by £6.

What also surprised me was that the manager couldn't care less, and was quite prepared to argue agrressively at the slightest opportunity. We also witnessed him arguing with other customers nearby. Perhaps he gets a lot of unhappy customers?

I have no idea why we stayed and didn't just pay for our starters and drinks and then leave. I think we were shocked, and quite tired actually, and so we just went along with it all.

DEFINITELY A PLACE TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. The place is so bad that it doesn't really rate even 1 star.

Highly recommended- Excellent Food and Service by PHD2000

Review by PHD2000

Rating: 5.00
Tags:
I recently visted the Tagore with a group of 10 people as part of a business conference and it's one of best Indian Restaurants I've been too. The food was exquisite and the service was very friendly and exceptional! We spent on average £25 per head even though we were not particularly hungery at the time. However, the food soon changed that and we couldn't get enough of it. The food was not only authentic but addictive too. Moreover, the decor of the restaurant was very trendy and classy. Whenever I'm away from home now I always seek out the local Indian and I always compare the food to the Tagore. Not many have come close on the food front so far. If you are in Ambleside check this place out but if you are into saving your pennies, then you're better off staying at home. Their minimum £10 per head policy is a reasonable price because of the high quality food and service they are offering. If you are a tourist or in the lake district on business then this place is THE place to eat out!

horrendous and insolent behaviour by munchurian

As if this was not enough, the obnoxious policy laid by the restaurant ( £10 per person as a minimum) was totally unacceptable to us.

As we were clarifying things with the waitress the manager walks in having barely reached our table and asked us to leave. This left us dumbfounded and the only civilised move we could make was to move out. This left a bitter taste in our mouth and ruined our evening mood.

We certainly wouldnt recommend this restaurant owing to our bitter experience. we were forced to rate this place which is why the one star!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( we really wudnt star rate this joint)

Being a group of 5 and not being very hungry, we did not think that we would end up eating a meal worth £50, so my husband went to chat with the waiter. He started off by saying we were not that hungry and wanted to ask the waiter if we could order for a take away.. but he never got to finish his sentence... as soon as he said we were not that hungry.. the waiter said 'if you are not, you can just leave then!'. We were so surprised! We had a big argument with the waiter.. especially after we found out that he was the manager.. he later revealed that he was having immigration problems. But after the treatment we got for him, we didnt really care!

So in a nut shell-
Over priced and rude management!!
