Go for the novelty not the food by johnny2323

Review by johnny2323

Rating: 1.00
Tags:
This chain has either gone downhill or the standard of sushi elsewhere has gone up - I'm not sure. But as a sushi addict who's been to this Poland Street at least twice a year since it opened I'd say it's a bit of both.
If you've not been it's worth popping in for a small snack for the novelty experience of choosing your food from a conveyor belt and your drinks from a little robot. But beware - it is very very expensive and the quality, while OK, is not high. Most worrying of all is the hygiene - something you could never accuse most sushi places of lacking in. Seeing as the kitchen is on full view you can see exactly what the chefs get up to and while I was there I saw a knife being taken straight from a sink of murky washing up water and used to chop some fish. it put me right off and to be honest i doubt if I'll go back.

Yo Sushi, Poland Street by purplenails

Nice set-up, very clean and bright decor.

The prices are quite high in comparison to food quality,
which isn't poor, but is hardly fantastic.

Food items are priced according to the colour of the plastic container they're come round the conveyor belt in.
While miso soup and green tea are reasonably priced, and also fixed in price, so you (as far as I know) can have unlimited free refills.
However the water provided at the tables isn't free, and there is no provision of tap water.
Generally good service, mostly you serve yourself, but you can order food from the menu rather than the conveyor belt which I would say is far better quality.

A fun experience, but not excellence food on the conveyor belt.

Sticky Sushi by cbetta

I found this Yo Sushi to make very thick and sticky rice, which meant I was filled up way too soon (good for me in one way, bad for them). Sadly though, the bad rice made me miss the freshness of the sashimi IN the sushi, and that's just sad. Sushi should be about fresh, lightweight food that's full of taste.

The overall experience was better though. I had quite a lot of fun. It is in a quite street in Soho, and the restaurant is clean and relaxed.
