A day can easily be spent at this museum but I'd suggest, as entry is free, to spend a half-day here and come back to see the rest another time. The display of tanks and aircraft is impressive and the holocaust exhibition is particularly interesting but you will need to put aside maybe a couple of hours if you want to go through the exhibition thoroughly. The Imperial War Museum does have a cafe if you need a break!
Overall I'd highly recommend this museum.

The museum features tanks, military vehicles, submarines, weapons , planes and more, and the main hall is extremely impressive to look at. There is even a fragment of the Berlin Wall positioned outside the Museum itself which is very interesting. The museum is free to enter as are most London museums, though special exhibitions do tend to cost some money to get into. The museum is well worth a visit.

Tanks and planes by Rhydster

The museum is hugely informative with interactive areas, many videos and recorded stories, printed information and areas to read, with great detail about many of the events that happened during the wars, including different accounts (German, for example).

There's more than enough for a whole day of learning and even enough for a second visit, so if youâ¬"ve only got one day, you should plan what you want to see when you enter.

Good initial point of note is that admission is free, always a good bonus. In the main entrance hall they have what they call the Large Exhibits gallery and the first thing you notice here are the full scale aircraft above you hanging from the ceiling, including a Spitfire and a Sopwith Camel. Then look around to see the ground displays of the army tanks and naval displays. And all that is just the first room from 6 floors of displays. Other interesting areas were the Special Forces displays showing the equipment they used in the past and the modern day. Another display very much worth seeing is the exhibition dedicated to the Holocaust which is really moving and humbling.

WOW...we both loved it, and we stayed until closing time. The displays are amazing, from the tanks and the planes and the boats and the submarines, to the downstairs exhibits of the smaller items. Not only weapons and uniforms, but all things relating to the military history of the UK. I was particularly interested in the original Enigma code machine that was used to break the German code during WW II. You cannot possibly leave this museum without an increased level of love and respect for the small island nation and its people who have persevered and triumphed over great odds time and time again throughout their history. Also, please remember that even though London is VERY expensive, all museums are FREE, including this one. PLEASE don't miss the Imperial War Museum...you will be educated and moved as we were.
