A full review will have to wait until I've tried the food, but the signs were encouraging from what I could gather from a quick read of the chalk board menu. There's some decent competition in this part of town, but Smithy's stands out as a unique and characterful place for a drink.

The bar area is stone-floored and has a high ceiling, and the drinks are cold (yum). Prices are a bit steep but not too onerous. The restaurant area is not quite as busy but the food is pretty good - I had a tasty hamhock terrine, followed by a very good fishcake on spinach with poached egg and hollandaise sauce (kinda like eggs benedict meets salmon benedict... but with a fishcake).

King's Cross hidden gem by Niamheen

It's an independent pub, tucked away down a side street behind the old thameslink station. An old victorian stables, it's all wood, cobbles and high ceilings, and a good spot for a post work drink or a catch up with friends. The crowd is very much pulled from the offices in the area, publishing and architects primarily.

I've had a bit of a love-hate relationship with the food, over the years it has veered from over priced and not very good to good and good value, thankfully that's where they are right now, especially with the special offer that they have at the moment. Worth a visit for lunch, dinner or drinks, I would recommend, especially for the ham hock terrine washed down with a nice glass of wine.
