Review by Visitor27

Rating: 3.00
Tags:
We found the restaurant by accident and were excited to make reservations. Our maitre d' was very personable and took extra time helping with food and wine selections. He truly contributed to the positive aspects of the evening. The waiter was another story; he was infatuated with the majority of the other patrons which were Muslim. We were ignored by him the whole evening. Let's be clear, a waiter should cater to his best customers - that's fine. However, the measure of a great restaurant is their ability (conscientious decision?) to treat their newest patron like their best patron. Unfortunately, the wait staff doesn't subscribe to this proposition. This is particularly unfortunate because the food was excellent! Pricey, but worth the money.
So, either be prepared to be treated like a second class citizen or bring your entire entourage, make them aware that you will spend excessively on courses you don't even eat or care about and be ready for the waiters to make absolute FOOLS of themselves kissing up to you. Anyone of any real means, experience or culture can tell the difference. I just wanted to be treated with a little respect, not royalty, but then again, I come from a country that doesn't acknowledge any form of royalty. Guess which one that is.

I went with an Italian friend who described the menu as "old fashioned favourites", which sounded perfect. The place was buzzing and full and although they had no recollection of my reservation, they found us a table nevertheless. Service was a little haphazard (we waited a while for our starters, then they brought our order twice - I wish we'd tucked in for a second time!) Mains and deserts were tasty but not grand. Total with a bottle of wine? £100 - so not too expensive given its location. The best part of the night was spotting a US tourist carrying a huge box of Krispy Kreme in a see-through Harrods bag. What a waste of air miles!

Beautiful restaurant - Fantastic service by Chris_toph

Review by Chris_toph

Rating: 5.00
Tags:
It's been a long time since I've felt the need to write a review about a restaurant but the service I received was worthy of the effort.
Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by a smiling, smartly dressed Italian waiter and a lovely female hostess. The waiter showed us to our table, whilst the chefs in the kitchen merrily sang in Italian in the background. Once seated, he let us know that he would be back shortly with wine recommendations and to take our orders. Although it was busy, sure enough he came back after 5 miunutes, allowing us to browse the wine and food menu. He offered his knowledge on what wines would best match our meals, and suggested that we try something off the Specials board.
The restaurant's atmosphere was lovely - it was so bustling, and everyone was chatting - it really did feel like an evening in Italy.
The food was beautifully presented, and tasted great. The sauces were so rich and creamy, and the lobster that my partner had was cooked to perfection, looked great and tasted amazing.
The whole evening was fantastic - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and look forward to our next visit.

Most of us arrived at 7.30pm but two friends got waylaid and we had to wait an hour for them to make it. During that time the staff came constantly to refresh our glasses, brought us baskets of bread, plates of parmesan and plates of bruschetta (all from their own initiative).

When we did complete our group and order the food arrived quickly and was really really good. I had the gnocchi followed by the tuna which was delicious (although be warned the gnocchi is HUGE). One friend had the veal and said it was the best he ever tasted.

Despite it being a couple of Saturday's before Christmas and the restaurant being busy, we were not rushed at all. The staff were funny, friendly and there was lots of banter (with some singing thrown in)

It was a wonderful night. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting great food, exceptional service and a lively, buzzy atmosphere.

It is also really close to Harrods should you fancy doing a bit of shopping first ... :-)

That is until I visited the stunning Signor Sassi in Knightsbridge.
The staff hit the nail right on the head with their attitute - true Italian banter and that cheeky, flirtatious way with the ladies who are dining along with great service.
The food was spot on - the fish dishes are renowned and now I can understand why! It was out of this world!
Luckily we booked, as I don't suspect we would have managed to get a table otherwise.
Very very impressed with Signor Sassi - I shall definitely be visiting again.

But Signor Sassi is just that! I went about 2 weeks ago for the first time and then again last night and loved it both times! Both times I've seen some famous faces too - last night David Grohl from the Foo Fighters was in there!!!! And when I was there before Chris Evans was there with friends!! It obviously is a favourite with the stars too!

The staff were a pleasure, as with all the San Carlo/Signor Sassi restaurants, and the food delightful. Definitely recommend Signor Sassi for any occassion - just remember to book as it gets busy!
