This is the shining gastronomic star in Canterbury (don't ask me about some of the over-rated others) and always reliable (apart from the Beeton Banquet, an unadvised abberation last month). But when the kitchen is cooking in its comfort zone and the chef is stalking around the market at 1030 am deciding on that day's
menus, you know you are in good hands. Never had a bad (normal) meal, always confident in the cooking, service and wines (the house bottles are excellent).

Indeed, no wheelchair access, bt it is a converted goods shed, after all. And the loos are perfectly sweet and clean, if a bit rustic. And they have proper pull-down roller towels rather than hot air blowers.

All in all, thoroughly recommended - and they have a stack of international awards as testimony. Quite rightly so, IMHO.

It was one of the coldest nights that I have ever experienced in the UK (minus 7, I believe) but the atmosphere and food warmed the cockles of my heart. I liked the spacious setup, and what really impressed me was the fact that there was no background music, which meant that my wife and I could have a conversation without having to raise our voices to be heard by our neighbours. The tables were spaced adequately, and the rustic ambience perfected the atmosphere. The home-made bread was a good appetiser, as was the local ale. The scallops starter was superb - served exactly the way I like it, not overcooked, and smacking of the sea. My wife's hake was excellent - succulent and tender, and my rib-eye steak was perfect to the last bit. The Goods Shed has definitely not seen the last of me, and I can recommend it to anyone!!

A bit on the pricey side, but what you get is well worth the money.

I have never had a better and unique dining experience in my life. If you want to eat here I advise you to book a table at least in a days advance. Right, where to begin? Its situated right next to canterbury west staion which is convenient for those coming to Canterbury to feast! Its in the Farmer market, so your immidiatly taken away by the raw/cutting edge approach this place has over any other. The menu is drawn up on a giant chalk board, which can change up to two times in one day! This place soly relies on the fresh meat/fish and Veg they have available on the day. Being the farmers market the produce is organic, the meat/and fish are from local farms (they can probably provide the miles their produce has traveled too). The food is the best I have had in Canterbury! The restaurant itself is in the barn, but has its own lifted section, where there are overhead heaters which do the job perfectly. The service was impecible. So friendly, in place that is full every night and has a buzzing atmosphere. The Chef, superb, even had the pleasure to meet! Such a vibrant place, it can only make you want to go back again and again. 3 courses set me back about £35, but well worth every penny(pigeon to start, belly prok, sorbet)! The wine they offer too is great and to top it all of, dont fancy dining in at night? Go during the day and feast on their sandwich's they have (very good). If thats not all enough to convince this is the place to go, then all I can say is your missing out!
