That said, you can always order your dishes directly, but that kinda negates the whole sushi-belt experience.

Kulu Kulu has a relaxed and informal air, and I like the do-it-yourself approach to cutlery, condiments and green tea.

For a really cheap meal, stick to the vegetable dishes - spinach with peanut sauce, fried aubergine, tofu, potato salad.

While most people go kfc, or Mac'ds for a quick bite, either before meeting friends or going out clubbing, i come here. Food is cheap, its self service mostly, and it feels like i was in Tokyo Japan again, those sushi bars on the underground. A much better option than Yo Sushi. Also there are ALOT of variety of sushi here, just that if it is not on the conveyor belt, you can ask the chef to make it for you.

There's a good atmosphere in there and being able to watch the sushi chefs is great, albeit a bit distracting! I was a bit surprised that the chefs weren't Japanese even though the owners were. All a bit strange really...

Anyway, the sushi was about average I guess but pretty good for the prices. It is one of those conveyor belt places so it's really easy to get over-excited and spend too much. I would have preferred a bit more variety. They didn't have any scallop nigiri which I'm told is quite tasty. I spent £12 on six plates which is not much at all for sushi. Would definitely go back again.

Tasty, healthy and good value by ilovelucy

It is an identical set up to the South Ken one - basic interior, good atmosphere without being too loud, free green tea, covneyor belt and sushi chefs of indian origin!

On this occasion, we managed a whopping 16 plates between the two of us, due to new things popping up and the Barrister insisting that we try them plus it was raining outside so that gave us a good reason to eat ourselves silly.

We had the usual stuff including hand roll with prawn tempura, mackerel nigiri, scallop nigiri, agedashi tofu, jellyfish, teriyaki chicken and salmon, salmon sashimi - all very tasty. We also had an oyster each which was a bit strange - probably could have done without the spring onion on top.

I'm not a sushi expert but the fish was delicious and melted easily in your mouth. The bill came up to £36 (they don't include service) which is fantastic price for the amount we ate. Kulu Kulu is great if you're looking for healthy, basic japanese food - I would certainly recommend it over Yo Sushi which is totally overpriced.

Little Sushi, Big Taste! by Formaggio_Amore

Review by Formaggio_Amore

Rating: 3.00
Tags:
This little gem of a Sushi place is barely noticeable, tucked away on the west side of Soho (off Piccadilly Circus/Regent's Street).

The interior is small, with basic decoration, but feels cosy, though. You sit on small stalls around a small, bar-like table on which is the Sushi conveyor-belt.

They have a good variety of dishes/fish but don't expect much by way of dessert, apart from a sliced, juicy pineapple that's what was on offer on the night, anyway. Drinks wise, they have an informal, self-service green-tea dispenser, which is soothing and certainly good for digestion.

There were two of us and we ate about 7 (small) plates each, which cost us about £18 per head, all-inclusive.

Kulu Kulu Sushi is largely a self-service experience, which means that you can fill your bonnet as soon as you hit the stall, litterally! During busy periods, the expected staying time is 45 minutes, though, but if you are looking for a good, quick/blitz, in-between-shopping or pre-theatre fish consumption off Piccadilly Circus/Regent's Street, that is the place to go to: it is small, quick, good and unpretentious; I like it! Cheque, please!
