Service was OK, food was just OK with the teeniest tinniest little pots of sour cream, cheese etc so you have to order sides. I guess it is more of a place to drink jugs of margaritas on a Saturday night then to go there simply for the food. I prefer the Basement or Biblos (does great nachos and fajitas) when I have a Mexican craving in Edinburgh.

!VivaĦ Edinburgh's best Mexican by christianjw

Review by christianjw

Rating: 5.00
Tags:
The Tijuana's been there ages but is somehow off most people's gastronomic radar in Edinburgh, which is a pity as it really does have the best Mexican food in town.

Tucked away on the first floor above a pub on one of the main cross streets in the New Town, the restaurant is cramped with raw wood furniture and chalk boards announcing specials and proudly proclaiming that the portions here are big enough to make Monica Lewinsky choke!

I can't verify that (!) but they're certainly a struggle to finish by anyone's standards. It's more than just quantity though as the menu doesn't just cover good renditions of all the old burrito and taco favourites, but also goes into less familiar territory like devils pants a spicy pork dish or the roast duck with chocolate and jalapeño jelly.

The corn bread is also excellent as are the generous pitchers of cocktails that will put you in the mood for a big night out.

Prices are on the moderate side expect to pay around £17 for a couple of courses plus drinks.
