Admittedly we didn't eat much, but what we did have didn't really whet my appetite for more. We had the mezze plate for two, grilled halloumi, calamari and a bottle of of Cuvee Du President (Moroccan red wine). We enjoyed the wine, but the halloumi was dry, the falafel was too hard and the calamari was too rubbery. The tabouleh wasn't bad and the pita was nice and warm but there was too much of it. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling water which arrived warm (when we asked for ice we were given a gigantic bowl of ice cubes with a spoon :-)) I'm pretty sure the tiny tables and low-lighting are meant to be part of the charm, but we sat at a *really* cramped table downstairs which was literally squished up against the next table, and it was so dimly lit that we could barely see the food on our plate. The wait staff was friendly though (and like amandaharrison our waitress spoke little English). But considering it was extremely busy and we'd no reservation the staff were all really attentive and accommodating. The belly dancer was good too - and it was pretty cheap! Considering the location, the vibrancy and the cost I might go again and try some other dishes. Maybe it was just an off-night.

Meze for 2 at only £8 is excellent value and just the right amount of food to soak up the amazing cocktails! You would never guess you were in the middle of busy Covent Garden, its so secluded and quiet away from the hustle and bustle. Great music but not so loud you cannot each other speak. Def recommend going and trying it out with an open mind.

Getting her attention to try and order was the first hurdle, then attempting to order that really difficult thing, er, the set menu for two, was the second. Like it was our fault! Much pointing to the menu and ten minutes later on someone else came out "to double check your order". But her belly-dancing belt was nice and swishy sounding, which distracted from the appalling service. The food was quite nice, nothing amazing, but pretty good. Samir Mahdi opened his first restaurant in 1998 and since then has benefited from tremendous success. The secret behind his success is simple; he created a fun restaurant where people had and continue to have a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable time. Enjoying an excellent array of delightful exotic dishes, whilst sampling some of the finest made cocktails in town. Combine this with great value for money, and it is no wonder that Samir has now expanded to open this, his second SOUK restaurant.

This is a substantially larger venue with an impressive seating capacity of 150 people. The venue boasts not only a restaurant but also a tranquil atmospheric tea room and a cocktail lounge. Samir´s aim is to suit all needs. Whether it be an aromatic cup of mint tea or a flavoursome dish with a devilishly naughty cocktail - the choice is yours.

In both the tea and cocktail room, one can find themself sinking into the irrestibly comfortable cushions, being swept away by the candle lit mood, sipping your desired drink, whilst awaiting your chosen flavoured shisha.

On entering the downstairs restaurant, the decor is that of a cave, with its low seating and luxurios cushions on the floor.

So whether you are a busy Londoner, a passer by, or a visitor, SOUK Medina is the perfect place to escape from everyday life into an ambient Moroccan oasis.

The decoration of the place is quite nice, and the staff are friendly and relaxed... even more if you speak to them in French. Maybe because I have been in numerous North African places like this before I will be a bit hard on it. There is something about this place which feels slightly in-authentic, the attempt of creating a North African look and feel is a good one but I'm sure most of my Algerian friends wouldn't fall for it. However I would still recommend it if you're up to have a bit of food some nice tea and of course some shi sha. Whilst I've been a bit hard on the place I am considering to use it as a venue for one of TrustedPlaces party. So perhaps we will see you there all very soon!!!

This place is North African (not specifically Moroccan) - The owner I believe is Algerian and most of the staff are too. So, that bit over, the place's cool. Everything is North African from the decor to the menu to the staff. They have set menus for large groups which are good value for money. The owner and staff are very friendly, and although not exactly my mama's couscous, the food's good (try the tagines and the Royal Couscous for meat lovers). Portions are generous (couscous comes with top ups). Don't forget to wash it all down with some 'atai bel nanaa' (mint tea).
