It is definitely all about Thursday. Have seen some awesome open-mic nights here. Really inspiring stuff. No matter what mood you arrive in, you always want to shake ya ass a little by the end of the evening.

The point of this review is not to say more of the same, however, it is to tell you: TAKE CASH, they do not accept cards. Very annoying if you aren't prepared. Thursday night's are the best nights to go in my opinion, as Adam Rock has great bands down there.
For lovers of soul/latin/jazz/samba/jazzfusion it's a wicked little venue & always a friendly atmosphere...

One of the more 'real' places on Portobello Road, Mau Mau is great, especially if you hit a night with some good live music. Shouldn't be too hard, as most nights they do have something going on.
Little detail that can make a big difference. It's one of the few places I've come across in london that give you an orange slice with your golden tequila shot, instead of lemon. You have to ask for it of course, but in 90% of the places I have asked I get the usual blank stare and the 'sorry mate, we don't have oranges' response. Well why not? you have oranges in a big bowl on the bar...please slice some. Golden tequila is so much better followed by a bit of orange and the rest of the world seems to know that. Anyways, digressing here...Cool place Mau Mau and if you go, don't forget to ask for an orange with your shots of golden tequila. the review title says it all, was taken here by a mate and ended up spending the whole evening here. They have live acts here sometimes and it all makes for a cool cosy atmosphere. Drink are fairly priced and the people there are chilled. Plenty of seating and overall a nice place to chill out in.
