Nice little French Place by walid

What characterizes Pierre Victoire is pretty good food at a very good value. I went back there last weekend for a meal and had a fairly good experience. As mentioned the food at Pierre Victoire is pretty good French food but it isn't exceptional. I had one of my favourite dishes bavette with shallots. Now for me a bavette is a good fairly chunky piece of great beef. The one from PV looked as though it had been flattened. For dessert I had the tiramisu with amaretto biscuits, which was alright. Overall I like this place and would probably return there if only it didn't get as noisy as it usually does.

Top Quality, low cost by Thomasinho

Frankly speaking due to the great quality food, at immensly low pricing.

The Rib Eye Steak with fries, is my personal favourite, however the fish, and other dishes, are both tasty and pleasing to the eye.

Fantastically they offer a special lunch menu, under £7.00 for two courses, and not too heavy, which means great timewise.
The service is excellent, really excellent,
No negative comments, or experience from this fantastic place, one point to mention, at lunch call before you arrive, this place is always understandably reserved early..

For mains we had T-bone steak, fillet steak, salmon and sea-bass.
for dessert we had tart tatin and lemon tart. we also had a very good Bordeaux.
Price was around £35 per head.
The place itself is cozy and match the food but the ambience is just horrible! you can hardly hear the person sitting next to you. Also a young pianist was even making it more difficult to communicate. Some people left because of this...
The service was just ok. I was feeling that one of the waiters is avoiding eye contact because he was very busy. They could definitely get some more waiters at that night.

Nice enough little Soho bistro by janie_lou

Review by janie_lou

Rating: 3.00
Tags:
A couple of my friends had been raving about this place for ages and finally we got the chance to go the other week. They said that there was a set menu before 7pm, and as we all like a bargain, we legged it down there just in the nick of time.

Its a nice looking place, good light is provided by the large windows at the front and is aided by white walls. Nice chunky wooden tables and a tiled floor help give it that 'rustic French bistro' look. Sadly the piano player was not on that night so I cannot comment on that. The waiters had good words to say about him though.

Assuming, then, that it was a French bistro, I was somewhat surprised that the menu was biased towards Mediterranean rather than French cuisine. A bit of a disappointment, but no major problem.

To begin, I had the falafels (very nice, decent portion) whilst my friends had the duck pate on brioche. The pate was good, however the brioche looked and tasted more like a toasted slice of Mother's Pride. This was followed by a reasonable enough lamb burger masquerading as lamb kofte (correct me if I'm wrong but a kofte is a long thing, right?) served on a nice fresh greek salad with feta. Great olives. One friend had the fish and vegetable skewer with rice. I nearly went for this but I'm glad I didn't - it was bland as you like, in looks and taste. I think this is probably the only red herring of a dish though, gawping at other diners' dinners I would say most other choices looked pretty reasonable.

In summary, the service was ok, the wine was ok, the food was ok....I don't think you could say that it was remarkable, or even memorable, but if you want some basic bistro food then this place does it well and doesn't charge over the odds. Everyone seems happy enough with their food and their surroundings, and it is good value for money - you could do a lot worse in Soho.

The portions are massive so usually i order just a main meal and shares the dessert. If you go before 7, you can have the set menu (which has a good choice) and is reasonably priced.

The service is generally good and friendly. It can get busy so get early or wait around for a table. Great for when you are in need a stodgy meal.

But one night my feet were hurting too much to trapse around Soho so in we went. Pierre Victoire is small and always busy and had a lovely french bistro ambience. The old man on the piano as we entered gave me a cheeky smile and the waitress was friendly. I had foie gras to start which was beautiful (mmmm I'm still dreaming about it) and then some unremarkable but nice fish dish. I was there with my boyfriend and we thought it was romantic in a cute, unassuming way. Nice wine too. It was a fair price and I would recommend it.
