As such, the clientele is a delightful mix of locals, tourists and commuters.<br /><br />Regular food fare is offered at reasonable prices - if you like your plates full and with a good range of options for lunch available, then this is a great bar to visit. <br /><br />Given the close location to the railway station, it can get very busy on friday nights as workers have a quick one before heading home, so if you&#39;re planning a few drinks on a Friday night, get there before 4 pm if possible and get a seat&#33;<br /><br />There are plenty of other bars nearby, but not all have the timeless charm of this almost traditional Edinburgh boozer.<br />]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[<img src="" /><br /><b>Review by <a href="http://trustedplaces.com/user/rosebud2001">rosebud2001</a></b><br /><br /><b>Rating:</b> 4.00<br /><b>Tags:</b> <a href='http://trustedplaces.com/places/uk/all?tag=friendly'>friendly</a>, <a href='http://trustedplaces.com/places/uk/all?tag=pop'>pop</a><br />I love the Malt Shovel pub on Cockburn Street in Edinburgh - but for the fact its so expensive&#33;<br /><br />Everything else is great - its always busy, but not packed, and has a great vibe with a mixed clientele.<br /><br />The atmosphere is friendly and warm and the pub decor itself is equally friendly and warm - it is a good, old fashioned traditional pub.<br /><br />However you pay for this at the till - having visited many pubs in Edinburgh over the years I struggle to think of one more expensive than the Malt Shovel - only the trendy bars on George Street would beat it in the price stakes&#33;<br /><br />I love the place so much I frequently swallow my pride and pay the prices however - it truly is a gem of a pub.]]></description>
