Review by mazphd

Rating: 4.00
Tags:
El Piano, is a interesting and unique mix of latin decor, vegertatian and vegan cooking tapas style and some really innovative dishes - hey lentil coconut dahl may sound like something thats not too aweinspiring on the taste-buds, but you would be surprised.

The first thing that youll notice about this place though, aside from its more than colourful frontage, is the aroma of cooking smells. This wasfts through York's city streets and ensures that hungry shoppers and tourists alike are on a trail to vegetarian goodness. The meat eaters amongst you may roll your eyes and clutch your stomach at the 'lack' of something meaty on the menu to sink your teeth into , but the beauty of the tapas style menu is that you can try lots of dishes to the proportion that you choose (you won't go hungry here) and surprise yourself with some really unique tastes.

All the staff befit a quirky and more than friendly vibe, but watch out this place gets busy so it can be hard to grab their attention! This restaurant itself is spread over 2 floors with 2 rooms upstairs that can be hired out for larger parties and this is the best way to experience El Piano, lots of people coming together to try as much as possible from the menu. This is not the best place for a romantic dinner for two, as the favourites of families during the day, and larger parties at night, the 'cosy' , or rather close together seating makes for a lively and more party vibe, rather than an opportunity to get up close and personal with that special someone.

Just one thing needs working on, ethical food and personable staff they have in bucketfuls! , but their wine and beer menu is less than exciting! Still the vibrant colour scheme should ensure that remaining te-total could work in your favour as the brights can become quite over-powering!

Try the dahl, make sure you get plenty of chilli rice crackers to accompany and enjoy the chimochanga's!

It's also fun working out what sized tapas plate (there are 3) to order everything in...
