Review by fillyfod

Rating: 4.00
Tags:
I was with a friend looking for somewhere in whitstable which was relaxed and sold fairly simple food for lunch and this fits the bill perfectly!

We did queue for a bit to get served but as it was during a festival in town this was to be expected and was pretty reasonable considering. I ordered a roast chicken and salad sandwich and my friend a sausage one. We had soft drinks so cannot comment on the tea or coffee quality unfortunately.

The place was very busy so we took the last 2 seats which were at the top of the stairs perched on stools and the food came fairly quickly. The quality of the food was excellent and these guys really know how to make a sandwich. Mine was top quality chicken which was still warm with very fresh salad ingredients and great bread. The sausages in my friend's was a good butchers quality too.

I will definately return here when I visit again and next time I will save room for some cake too!

Don't do it here!! The staff all seem to be unruly teenagers. I went in with friends to get out of the rain, hoping for a good coffee (this was pre-smoking ban) and the staff (although friendly) were all screeching about the place. The "chef" or "chief dishwasher" (spotty teen) came out for a fag on the table next to us with one of the "waitresses". The waitress then leaned over us to grab the ashtray (albeit politely). The coffee was really weak and insipid to the point where I just left mine...yuck. And I thought the rickety stool I was sat on was going to give way at any minute. Not very relaxing.
So I'd never go back, it was very disappointing! However, it always seems really busy regardless so someone must like it!

The cool café chic of a place staffed by the young alternative set of Whitstable, catering to all walks of life with all-day breakfasts, home made cakes and an extensive and adventurous sandwich menu makes this place feel as though it could be a trendy daytime hangout in Hoxton or Shoreditch. The thing is that it has the added benefit of being less than 5 minutes walk from a beach in order to paddle after you lounged around with a paper and a coffee letting your impeccable breakfast settle.

A strong recommendation for a really fabulous place - if you're heading out to the sea in Kent, choose Whitstable and you'll be able to see for yourself.
