I don't recall much about the food, which says something in itself, but what I do recall from this experience is that we waited 2 hours for our food and a further hour for the bill.

12 years later I thought I'd give it another bash for Sunday lunch with my mum and grandmother, sadly the service we recieved was worse than I remember.

Having booked a table 5 days earlier we arrived at the restaurant to find that they had made a mistake with our reservation and had us written down for half an hour earlier than agreed. Consequently our table had been given away and the solution offered was to disembark my 78 year old grandmother with crippling arthritus (it had been hard enough to get her up the steps to begin with) and sit outside for an unspecified amount of time until a table became available.

Having travelled from London to Lincoln for the specific purpose of taking my family out for a rare meal together, this was disappointing to say the least. The couldn't-care-less attitude of the staff and their unwillingness to accept their mistake (trying to blame me) was enough to have me march back in and give them a piece of my mind in front of the diners - to which I received a 'thanks for that'.

And the life time achievement award for worst customer service goes to.....

It is a Barge, on the Brayford. Not just any Barge though, this one serves rather good food!

There are two levels to the Barge, and upper deck and lower deck, plus an outside area. Ther upper deck is the most popular, and most pleasantly decorated of the areas. Becasue of this, it is also nearly always fully booked, so ring in advance. The lower areas (I've yet to see this busy) are rather dark and dull, with only small windows to let the light in. the outside area is fine, although the Brayford tends to pick up a lot of wind so even though it looks sunny, your sandwich could be going for a swim if you aren't careful.

The food is very good, with a large range of light snacks and main courses, specialising in Fish dishes.

It is rather small though so don't expect a huge ocean liner!
