Years ago, this used to be a fairly homely greasy spoon caff, and I vaguely remember coming here of a morning every now and then to fill up on fried eggs and such before the hangover kicked in properly. Sigh.

Some years ago, after I'd left Manchester, I noticed that it'd turned into some smart restaurant or other and, possibly in silent protest against Didsbury's increasing gentrification, I avoided it. Turns out the joke was on me, as it's genuinely lovely - especially considering what else is on offer in Didsbury (Felicinis is a bit of a joke).

The specifics - great food (I was in a sort of seafood mood); delicately cooked scallops preceded some of the best battered cod I've ever had, and a wickedly dense sticky toffee pudding finished it off. The wine list was very decent, nothing to write home about but well priced and judiciously chosen.

The service, as the review below mentioned, was okaaaaay, but I put that down to us being there on a slow lunchtime. Professional enough, but not entirely attentive.

On the whole? Good, nudging great. Went here as a result of it being City Life restaurant of the year and so maybe we were expecting it to be better than it was. Food was fine but service was poor, typical of the type of place that once the food has stopped coming the staff completely ignore you.
