Review by Foodlover10

Rating: 2.00
Tags:
Have one of the great views of the South Downs. Great rose-filled garden for children to run in though you will be told that you must keep them (children) under control....

Service is ok and rather matronly. Food is below average for the price, many better pubs in the areas (Rising Sun in Milland, Keeperâ¬"s Arms in Trotton, Halfway Bridge in Lodsworth etc) though they donâ¬"t have the views. My recommendation? Go there on a sunny day, sit in the garden and enjoy the views but donâ¬"t expect great food. Then on not so sunny days, head for the other and better pubs in the area

Food is classic British... Sussex lamb cutlets, Selsey crab, Scottish mussels, lobster salad, venison, Dover sole, and some extremely toothsome puddings. Beers are from the barrel, wine list is short but good. Manages to cater to both the real ale and the champagne crowd (it's within the gravitational pull of both Goodwood and Cowdray Park) while maintaining its own identity. This is a gastropub dating from years before anyone coined the term, and full of brisk confidence. A local great with which we at www.mypetersfield.co.uk are a touch smitten. Definitely a pub to settle down with.
