Really, really good turkish food by anthonykennedy

I can confirm that the food is very tasty, looks great and is well priced. On Sunday night we had a Mezze of 11 dishes for £13.95 per person. I will be returning here.

One point to note is that I will ensure that we are not seated at the six or so tables at the front of the restaurant. While we were there the front of house was forgotten and largely left to our own devices as staff focussed on the main restaurant towards the rear. Making service slow, occurring in starts and fits, and a terminable wait for a missed dish.

Finish off any meal here with some rose water and pistachio ice cream and your meal transports you right out of London.

The staff are agreeable, friendly and more helpful. The restaurant is usually very busy so booking ahead is advised, though they seem to always try and accommodate walk ins.

Delicious Turkish food in Covent Garden by Lacrimosa

Review by Lacrimosa

Rating: 4.00
Tags:
One of a small chain of London-based Turkish restaurants, I visited Sofra Covent Garden for a birthday celebration. There was about forty of us, so a deal had been struck beforehand - £12 per head for hot and cold meze bought out at intervals on plates and platters. Very agreeably, they also allowed us to supply our own wine, with a £5 per bottle corkage fee (normally £10) for every bottle opened. We were situated in the upstairs room - a very light and airy space with a glass roof (which apparently may be slid back to provide an alfresco dining area on warm, dry days). Downstairs seemed busy with smaller tables of diners also.

Well, we only sampled the meze that night, but everything I tasted was absolutely mouth-watering. Meat served on skewers was very tender with a lovely charcoal-grilled flavour. Simple classics like tabouleh, taramasalata and humus were just right. I remember enjoying the hot filo pasty parcels filled with spinach and feta, while Steve, next to me, seemed particularly fond of the baby broad beans with coriander and creamy yoghurt.

Based on this experience, I shall certainly be going back to Sofra to sample the regular menu. When I do, I'll report back with an update. :-)
