Vegetarian Indian by Sarah_W

Review by Sarah_W

Rating: 3.00
Tags:
Another new discovery is this vegetarian restaurant just off Tottenham Court Road (they have another branch in Hammersmith, which we've not tried). The food may be traditional South Indian vegetarian cooking, but the decor isn't so traditional, at least for Indian restaurants in Britain - no flocked wallpaper here but simple wooden furniture and walls, decorated with a collection of brass animals (I loved the elephants!)

We each chose a starter - Chris had the samosas while I had some rice and lentil dumplings called kanchi idli. Be warned - these starters are filling and come in large portions so one to share would be ample! We then shared a number of dishes - two small curries (one a kootu which was reminiscent of Thai cooking, the other a more traditional aloo gobi), a delicious dosa stuffed with a potato and onion mixture and some basmati rice. Flavours were good, especially the dosa, but the food could have been warmer. With a large Kingfisher beer each and a couple of poppadums eaten while we perused the menu, the bill came to £36 - good value for this part of town
