In my opinion, it's the only jazz venue that has remained real and true to the jazz ethos. There is no pretentiousness, the ambience is great, the music excellent and the food really tasty

A relaxed kind of cool by mif

The staff are very friendly. The food and drinks are decent and unpretentious - met my expectations. The place is simply furnished, cosy, relaxed and no longer clouded in smoke since the smoking ban. You can rock up in jeans & t-shirt and feel very comfortable here. Patrons are asked to keep the banter to an absolute minimum which is fine as you go to this sort of joint mainly for the music. You'll be able to see and hear the band very well from every table in the room.

Discrete and chilled out Jazz club by Formaggio_Amore

Review by Formaggio_Amore

Rating: 4.00
Tags:
The 606 Club is one of London's oldest and finest Jazz clubs. It is discreetly tucked away in a minor street between the river Thames and the western end of the Kings Road.

You will not necessarily find international or superstar Jazz outfits there but, on a good night, the gigs are fine. You can be a member of the club but non-members are welcome, too.

Due to licensing restrictions, alcohol is served to non-members only with meals. During the week (Monday-Thursday), non-members can come down for soft drinks, if there is spare capacity. Weekend nights are full and one can be admitted as a non-member only if coming in for dinner.

There is a music charge of £8 a head Monday-Thursday, £10 Friday and Saturday and £9 on Sunday. This is added to the dining bill.

Food is Bistrot-like and is normally a 2/3 courses affaire. You have a choice of about 6 varied starters, 6 main courses and three deserts. With music and service, expect to pay about £35 per person. Booking is an absolute must on weekend nights.

I very much like this place for its cosiness and civilised atmosphere (spectators are expected to be quite whilst the band is playing). If you live in the area and are looking to chill out to jazz in an intimate atmosphere, whilst eating, this is THE place to be in. If you are in nice company, you can always go for a walk along the nearby Thames or hit Fulham Road's or Kings Road's clubs/bars for some extra-time boozing and action, afterwards.

One thing, though: unfortunately, like many Jazz clubs, this is a smoking venue. However, the place is well air-conditioned.
