I went for bite size mexican style nibbles (i'm a mexican food freak...) and they went down a storm.

Definitely recommended for a party or other event. Also been several times just for a drink and it's always a chilled atmosphere and a place to feel at home in.

In terms of how it looks, from the outside it looks like a pretty normal pub to bar conversion. Itâ¬"s only when you get in you notice the attention to detail that raises it above the ordinary. I mean you can tell that it used to be an old fashioned pub. But one that has had an awful lot of effort and time spent on it. Just little things like leather sofas to relax and enjoy your drink in. As someone else has mentioned, thereâ¬"s a games cabinet. A very nice touch for a group of friends or for some bored children. During the day it looks like a very family friendly place. There are tables and chairs that you can sit round with friends as I have done. With a pretty decent selection of food if your feeling hungry. Now the menu although not huge covers most of the things you would want to see, alongside some interesting bits that surprised me. This is not a bar that has just trained up one of the bar staff to use a deep fat fryer. As I have said there is an attention to detail that raises it above what you would expect and that extends to the drinks selection as well as the food. I hate the no brand spirits that some places throw in your drinks and hope you donâ¬"t notice. There is a good reason these labels are so cheap and thatâ¬"s the taste. Iâ¬"m willing to pay 20/30p extra for my drink knowing that whats gone in them has cost that much extra. Thatâ¬"s what I get from the Hope, a sense of value for money. Now if your used to the cheapest place in town and donâ¬"t care what you drink then this is not the place for you. The customers for the most part are mid twenties upwards, with more than its fair share of well dressed women. I would expect itâ¬"s the type of place that would be great for a 1st date or even a place to meet someone you would like to date. Thank god itâ¬"s not full of 18 year olds stumbling about, thereâ¬"s no sense of menace or intimidation that some places have, It feels comfortable and welcoming.

So I suppose you would call this a glowing review. Is it the best bar in the world, certainly not. But it is easily the best bar anywhere near Richmond.

However after visiting The Hope (the new name) I decided it deserved one.
I keep driving past noticing that the shabby looking Molly Malones has had a re-fit. Little did I know, this once dingy hole has been turned into one of the best places around town.
Iâ¬"m usually a sucker for so-bar closer to the town, I like cocktails, I like an atmosphere that has an air of class and I like a good mixture of people.
We walked into The Hope this Friday for a quick drink, but ended up staying until closing. This place isnâ¬"t trying to be anything in particular, just somewhere people can go and have something thatâ¬"s slightly different. If you just want a normal pint in a dirty old chair, maybe next door is more suited to you.
What I love about this place is the attention to detail. Little things like the spirits used. You wonâ¬"t find cheap Smirnoff Vodka, which has some how become the UKâ¬"s choice. No no you get quality Russian Vodka etc. Something most landlords are too tight to use. Again the little decorations that add a personal touch, and art from local artists. They even have that great dyson hand dryer! Itâ¬"s worth a visit to the loo just for that.
One thing that at first cheesed me off was being offered a mojito that wasnâ¬"t standard. I like mojito the old way, however, when I tasted this French mojito with a little Chambord added i was simply in heaven. The cocktails knock spots off so-bar and are more competitively priced. Not only that but the staff extremely helpful and personal. Its nice to get service that isnâ¬"t fake.
We decided to go back today to test the food menu. Again what first made an impression was attention to detail. I have worked in many industrial kitchens, and have always been fussy with what I eat. I can tell you that not many restaurants care about where the food is from, and only care about cost. All food is locally sourced. Not only that but the menu is up to date with modern trends. There is variety too. Good old pub food, but some healthy options with a difference. A nice afternoon tea menu which I need to go go back for.
I went for the smoked trout salad and a side of fries. All fresh and tasty, presented excellently and served quickly. After some of the best brownie I have ever had (better than mine which is saying something) and a good cappuccino.
I think that maybe the old Malones crowd are upset that the dingy pub is no longer there. However if you want some where with class, that doesnâ¬"t cost an arm and a leg, that serves good food then this place is for you. The soon to be ready garden I was told about also sounds great.
Going again tomorrow for the pub quiz, Maybe ill let you know how it goes.........................

It looks more gastro-pub than pub-pub, but the food leans towards the later.

Always keen to try somewhere new (and most importantly, within walking distance from home) we popped in for lunch one Sunday. Although we received a friendly welcome we almost walked straight back out again as the music was bad.... if you are a fan of 'High School Musical' you would have loved it, though surely even you would tire of listening to the whole album in one sitting.

Service was eager to please but inexperienced. Perhaps a bit more time studying the menu, and familiarising themselves with the (miniscule) wine list would be beneficial.

The menu had plenty of options, broken into sections such as "Little Bits" and "Sandwichy Things", though we ordered from the "Yummy Nibbles and Ample Mains" selection. We both went for the Ribeye Steak, served with fries and salad. Happily the steak was flavoursome and nicely cooked and the salad was fresh, though the chips were not cooked enough and pretty average.

The Hope has a small beer garden which should keep the smokers happy, and a cupboard full or board games which will no doubt become popular as the days become shorter. Not sure I would rush back for a meal at this stage, but would certainly return for a drink in the future.
