Great for brunches by Ludovic

Review by Ludovic

Rating: 3.00
Tags:
There's strangely an un-explored niche in the Richmond dining area: good places for brunch.

What's in a brunch? To me, a good brunch is informal (need to be able to bring the kids), good value and offering a range of options, not just a cooked breakfast.

We went to Annie's this Mothering Sunday and liked it. We've been there before and liked it: the decoration is warm, the uncovered oak tables inviting but the chairs are cosy rather than too pub-like. They do offer a brunch menu: full English Breakfast, but also a few eggy versions (Benedict, Florentine, with smoked salmon, etc...), all between £8 and £9, kiddies go full English for a fiver (one is enough for two sub-7 fairies).

I really like it at night too: it's a classic brasseie menu, not too extensive and fresh. Dishes are between £10 and £15 -now I wonder why we don't come back more often? I guess the wine list could be more researched, but it would be adequate for most.

Consistently average by Corky

Maybe I'm being harsh as it's got a lot of local competition but I find Annies a bit meh.

Nearby Brown Dog& The Depot are both consistently good, The Tree House hot and cold. This place is always ok. Nothing at all wrong with the food but i've never left thinking I'd just had a great meal.

And it is in Barnes, not Mortlake (just about).

Annie's in Mortlake by jennipenni

Review by jennipenni

Rating: 3.00
Tags:
I do believe we have found a little find in Mortlake! It is classed as a pub, but it is more restauranty for sure.

My sister said a friend had recommended it, so we went along. The interior is beautifully decorated& muted colours, warm and cosy, with candles burning and gilt-edged mirrors handing on the walls.

The only downer for me was the bathroom. A disappointment really. One would expect a funky and arty bathroom, to go along with the restaurant, and it wasn't smelly in a bad way, but it was damp, the hand dryer wasn't working, and it didn't live up to its location.

Oh well. Not enough to put us off going again tho!

The food was lovely (albeit expensive& but then this isn't a cheap part of London..), we had some pita bread with houmous for a starter.

Lance and I had their steak burger with chips, and LOTS of salad, which was yummy.

Cooked well, no complaints at all.

My sister had cod and chips& she said it was quite bony, but was succulent and tasted delicious. Lance had a Speckled Hen beer and we had lager shandies.

Great for a celebration with a few friends or for a Saturday morning brunch (shame they took the pancakes of the menu).
Can't go wrong with any of the mains and the creme brulee du jour is fantastic.
