I'd liken it to going around your mad aunt's for a cup of tea or a coffee! Talking of which, the coffee is superb. As is the tea! You actually have quite a large selection to choose from and all taste delicious. I think the decor may put some people off, especially now they have lost the beautiful view they previously had though a huge building recently being erected! Service has lost them one star, because although its great to be relaxed, i'm still a customer and expect to be served!

It's full of character and characters. None of the furniture matches and there are curious ornaments and dusty old book all about.

There's a very impressive tea menu, and some pretty exotic brews. The cakes are delicious-looking and they also serve up snacks and meals, though i've not tried the food.

There are all kinds of things going on - poetry readings and relaxed live music nights. You can smoke a hookah pipe on the terrace outside, or play chess inside. It's all just very chilled.

Don't be put off by the unlikely-looking lane, you are in the right place.

Magic Teashop by Promethea

Review by Promethea

Rating: 5.00
Tags:
Great place to hang out for hours on end - and many do. The decor is "mad student flat" ie squashy mismatched armchairs etc, but there are also beautiful carved wooden benches and chairs outside. Vast menu of teas, most of which you will never have heard of, and particularly recommended are yogi chai, chocolate mint tea and Turkish apple (very sweet). They also do food, of the veggie type and have hookahs with flavoured tobacco. Another great thing is the dominoes and other games scattered around. Drawbacks: new building blocks the previous river view and as itâ¬"s so laid back itâ¬"s not ideal if you are in some desperate hurry.

The perfect place to chill by mespinheiro

Hidden down a back alley in the west end it is a favourite hang out of students but that does not mean if you are not a student you will not be welcome. It is hippie heaven. Sit back relax and catch up with friends. Try their Turkish apple tea and if you are hungry try some food from the limited but tasty menu. All food is vegetarian but due to the relaxed atmosphere be prepared to wait a while to get served. Not good if you are in a hurry but a good place for a Saturday afternoon. Don't forget to check out the nearby second hand book shops.
