Having read the numerous good reviews of this place, and having had it recommended by a former work colleague who was from Trinidad, I expect great things, and I was sadly disappointed.

The food really wasn't very good. My baby back pork ribs (both of them. For the best part of a fiver? A little cheeky) were spicy, but cold. They were served with a very few slices of fried onion, which was cold, tough and pretty unpleasant on the palate. My Better Half's crab claws were similarly meagre and disappointing and came in at a fiver.

We both had jerk meat platters which were pretty poor. For a start, there wasn't very much of it, secondly it was again cold and my fried plantain just tasted burnt.

I apologise for the slightly dispassionate review. Those of you who have read others will understand that this is uncharacteristic. It was just such a disappointing meal that it's left me some what deflated.

Shame really. I was expecting something pretty good.

Iâ¬"ve never been to a carribean restaurant before so this was an eye opener for me! My friends have all been here and have raved about it, so I took the plunge and Iâ¬"m so glad I did! Cottons if a fantastically lively and friendly place to go, both as a group and as a couple. The staff are so friendly, Iâ¬"ve never seen one person smile so much! The waiter had a fabulous sense of humour! The food was brilliant, Iâ¬"d recommend it all! But maybe it was because of the amazing cocktails we had - I would definitely recommend these! Without doubt, you have to go here!

Having been to the Caribbean a few times, I have to say that this place is the closest you will get to authenticity in London!As soon as you walk in the door you feel like you could be in a little bar in the Virgin Islands!Our waiter was a little ray of sunshine, fantastic service and really friendly! Ask them what cocktails they recommend, I would suggest some- but I could barely remember MY name by the time I left! What with the fantastic jerk chicken and wonderful selection of rums inluding Mount Gay and Mayers, you're guaranteed to have a great time!

I've been to a few Caribbean restaurants, and think Cottons' reign supreme. I've never had any complaints here, my favourite dish is the Jerk Platter.

A fantastic array of rums and lively environment.

Cottons have now opened another restaurant in Islington, in an ex-pub, although this isn't as lively, the food is just as good, and its easier to park the car.

Cottons´ entrance on Chalk Farm Road (close to both Camden Town and Chalk Farm tube stations) is deceptively modest. Once inside, the restaurant features a lavish bar area which leads to 3 delightful dining rooms (Margarita, St. Lucia and Barbados). Each room has been individually designed and decorated to capture the tropical ambience of the West Indies.

As soon as you walk in you can feel the Caribbean vibes in Cottons where the food is hot and the atmosphere chilled! The environment at the bar is lively and they have a huge selection of fantastic rum.

So what about the food?

With strong, modern presentation and flavours, the ingredients dance between traditional Caribbean & Modern European. So although there is a wide range of jerked dishes, from pork ribs to chicken and entire mixed grills of jerk meat and fish, you will also find smoked marlin on a bed of braised leeks and passion fruit dressing.

The vegetarian choice is also good, while huge portions are just the ticket after a hard day´s bargain hunting in Camden Market over the road!
