Full of history (quite literally - its stores many medieval writings) and charm. Its a bit distasteful that you have to pay, but then that is the church - it would be much more acceptable if donations were voluntary, but then this is a student town so I guess they feel the need to stress the point! The best thing about the cathedral is the outdoor space - sit under the trees on the green soaking up the atmosphere which although always bustling manages to be serene and peaceful. An excellent place to relax on a sunny day and do a bit of reading. Has a central park type vibe only on a very very small scale! Lovely.

From the outside you can sit on the large green and gaze up at the powerful buttresses and large patterned windows. From the front you can see many statues of saints. One or two are women and have had their heads removed many years ago, as it was considered disrespectful of religion to have a woman in such an important place on a cathedral. Inside, the high ceilings are beautiful and it provides a fabulous venue for musical concerts. There are a number of small pretty and interesting lady chapels. You now have to pay to get in, unless you say you are going to pray in a side chapel, but even then it can be embarrassing if you refuse so be prepared. It is well worth a visit. The best landmark in Exeter.

Very impressive engineering, and a beautiful piece of architecture.
Even more impressive if you go inside, brush aside the religious types, and see the works of art that are the stone pillars, roof and windows. Also funny to see an organ that looks like it could eat you house, never mind you car!

If you are religious then you may even get something else out of it, but from a purely Atheist viewpoint, I am quite taken aback by it!
