It was also cheap, even though you got a lot of high quality food. In comparison to wagamamas, E-kagon is so much better!

Situated above the Yum Yum supermarket (E-Kagen was previously the awful Yum Yum noodle bar) at the north end of Sydney Street. I ate there early last Saturday evening and the restaurant was worryingly quiet, this is I feel as a result of the close proximity of the fairly new Wagamamas. I can tell you that from a food point of view E-Kagen is far superior. They are advertised as a sushi and noodle bar, but in the evenings they provide a comprehensive (and not expensive) main course selection. Whilst there is no bar, you are welcome to bring your own alcohol, and pay a small corkage. The staff are very friendly, helpful and not rushed (Unlike Wagamama). Interestingly, quite a few of the other customers were Japanese-I always feel that if a restaurant has their own ethnic community eating the food, it must be good, and it certainly is!
Try it you won't be disappointed
DeeR

Especially recommend the Gyoza starters (both vegetarian and meat option), but you can't go wrong with any of the main courses either.

Photo by Jeremy Keith, under a CC attribution license: http://www.flickr.com/photos/adactio/31470457/
