Looking for a traditional Basque sheep herder's meal? Look no further than Gardnerville, Nevada. Yes, that's right - Nevada. I thought he was joking, when my husband said he'd booked a table for us at a Basque restaurant. Nevada is a long, long way away from France and Spain. It was no joke and the JT Basque Bar and Dining Room is on the High Street. Never having eaten Basque before I didn't know what to expect - I was in for a treat. Everyone eats together at long tables, although there were a few smaller tables if you are particularly shy. The menu is set so you just sit back and wait to see what arrives. It is a good idea to arrive hungry because the dishes just keep on coming.
All the extras; French bread, salad, table wine are included and the main course could be steak, stew, lamb chops or chicken.

After the hotel was fully booked and confirmed, we arrived and they forced us to pay an additional MANDATORY daily charge for nonsense like using the pool, newspaper in the room, and useless stuff that are automatically included with every other hotel. You have no option to decline this fee, and I think It's absolutely ridiculous.

Then, they claim to be "steps away from the strip", but they're more like a 20 minute walk away from the strip.

Also, ALL of their rooms have only ONE bed and an uncomfortable pullout bed.

Lastly, we had a very loud and constant whistling noise in our room, as if the windows were leaking wind noise.

When I started planning our time in Las Vegas my priority was to stay in a fabulous hotel, with a view from our room of the Strip. When I looked into the Bellagio I read that not only could we have a room with a Strip view, but it would also have a view of the Bellagio Lake and dancing fountains. Sold!

The Bellagio is a massive 5 star hotel and casino located in the middle of the Strip. The design and dÃ©cor was inspired by Italy's Lake District, and it is a lot classier (IMHO) than some of the other Vegas theme hotels. At the front of the hotel is the aforementioned lake, with regular fountain displays. Inside, the lobby is marble filled and there is a very impressive glass sculpture on the ceiling - 2000 hand blown flowers in bright colours.

The casino is vast, and seemed to cater for the higher-stakes gambler. There are several restaurants, cafes, bars, and a night club. The pool area is stylish and there are private cabanas for hire if you are so inclined. Art lovers may want to visit the Fine Art Gallery, and if you are into Cirque du Soleil then the Bellagio is home to their water show "O".

Our check-in went as planned, and we were appointed the requested 'Deluxe Lakeview Room'. To get to our room we had to walk through the casino, which really helped us to get into a Vegas state-of-mind. Our room was great, spacious and tastefully decorated and fabulous views of the lake and Strip. So bizarre to see the Eiffel Tower out the window!

The Bellagio is filled with excellent restaurants, and of the fine dining options, one called Picasso caught our eye, so we pre-booked a table for our first night in town. The restaurant is accessed via the Bellagio casino, and looks out over the lake. It has been awarded 2 Michelin Stars, and a AAA Five Diamond Award for seven consecutive years.

The dining room is grand and beautifully decorated - it is filled with Picasso paintings and ceramics. The professional but amiable service made us feel welcome and relaxed from start to finish.

The food is "French cuisine seasonally prepared with a Spanish influence". There was the choice of a degustation menu, or a fixed price, four course menu. We chose from the fixed price menu, and also opted for the Sommelier's wine pairing. This was not a cheap meal, but a memorable one.

To start, we had the Poached Oysters, garnished with Osetra Caviar, Sauce Vermouth; and the Warm Quail Salad with Sauteed Artichokes, Pinenuts. Both dishes were beautifully presented and the oysters were so good they earned a place in Alex's "Top 5 Oysters I have ever eaten" list.

Next up we both opted for the Sauteed Filet of Black Bass with Saffron Sauce and Cauliflower Mousseline - really delicious. Then for the 'main' course we had the Roasted Milk-Fed Veal Chop with Rosemary Potatoes and Au Jus; and the Sauteed Medallions of Fallow Deer with Caramelized Green Apples and Zinfandel Sauce. The deer was certainly the winning dish, I found the veal a little over-cooked.

Desserts were happily devoured, in particular my Warm Chocolate Fondant with Carmel Chocolate Ice Cream. While staying at the Bellagio, one evening a lighter dinner was required in-between drinking cocktails and hitting the casino, so we ventured to Yellowtail Sushi Restaurant, which is conveniently located in the casino area.

A fairly new addition to the Bellagio restaurant directory, Yellowtail is a very stylish looking place, with very attractive staff who seem to have shares in push-up bras.

We were seated at a high table in the front section of the restaurant, so unfortunately didn't have views of the lake and fountain. We weren't ravenous, so just ordered a few things to share. The stand-out item was the Salmon Nigiri - wow, the salmon was so melt-in-your-mouth that we promptly ordered another serve.

We also ordered the Grilled eggplant skewers with sweet miso, some Tuna sushi rolls, and the Popping spicy crab, which was a sushi roll with crab, cucumber, asparagus and a sprinkling of those pop-rock candies that pop and crackle in your mouth. Fontana Bar is located lakeside in the Bellagio, accessed via the casino. There is a large bar area inside, with a stage and dance floor, and a terrace that looks over the lake and Strip. We visited early one evening and of course headed straight for the terrace, and a prime fountain watching position.

There was a band playing inside, and speakers outside so we could still enjoy the music. Every now and then the bands music would be replaced by the various backing soundtracks for the dancing fountains, and we would enjoy the eruptions from our seat.

We ordered mojitos (really good!) and martinis and felt pretty content. Jean Philippe Patisserie is located inside the Bellagio, and is well worth a visit if you have a sweet tooth like me. Not only are there beautifully created (and tasting!) pastries and cakes, but there is also some very good ice cream on offer.

Also of interest is what claims to be the "World's Tallest and Largest Volume Chocolate Fountain". The photo I took only shows the bottom half of it. It certainly looked impressive, but was behind glass, so it was not the type of choc fountain you could dip marshmallows in.

We sampled a couple of the cakes - a Lemon Tart, and a chocolate concoction that had choc mousse and nutella and praline crispy biscuits. Yes, it was good. I don't really 'do' buffets, basically cause I can't eat that much in one sitting so I never feel like they are good value for me. Oh, and nothing compares to the brunch buffet I once had at the Delano Hotel in Miami. Anyhoo, that said, it seemed like having a meal at the Bellagio Buffet was one of the 'things to do' whilst in Vegas, so we did.

We turned up at around 11am on a Sunday and there was a queue out into the casino. Thankfully it moved quickly, so our tummies weren't grumbling for too long. You have to pay before you are seated, and they ask if you want to leave your tip in advance, or at the table. We opted for the table option, unsure how much service we wanted to pay for at a 'self-service' restaurant.

We were shown to our table and then sat there waiting till eventually our waitress arrived and took our drink orders. Service was pretty non-existent after that.

So, the buffet. There was a massive selection of food - everything from cornflakes to pizza to scrambled eggs to sushi to cakes to roast beef. There were chefs cooking dishes in front of you, so you knew that (some) things were nice and fresh.

Canaletto is an Italian restaurant located on "St Marks Square" inside the Venetian Hotel. We had dinner there one night and opted to sit on the terrace in the square. It really did feel like we were back in Venice at dusk. The restaurant was lively and had a real Italian feel, helped along by the Italian staff, and the gondoliers and carabinieri walking past in the square.

We started with a glass of prosecco and reminisced about our last time in Venice. Then it was dinner time. Our meal began with the Calamaretti Fritti and the Minestrone soup. Main course was the Veal shank braised in a marsala wine with porcini & shiitake mushrooms, served with saffron risotto; and the Fillet of seabass with tomatoes, artichokes, prosecco and saffron, served with organic sautÃ©ed spinach and roasted Yukon gold potatoes.

Carnegie Delicatessen is located within the casino of the Mirage Hotel. It is apparently quite like the original Carnegie Deli in New York.

The main draw card here seemed to be the "overstuffed sandwiches" - they were so massive. Think two average slices of bread with a filling of pastrami, and when I say filling I mean a 25cm high tower of meat! Then add sides including a big stack of fries, a tub of coleslaw and a giant pickle, and you will get the idea of what a meal here entails.

But we ignored all that and just shared a giant slice of Cheesecake instead. And a pot of tea to wash it down. And tried to take sneaky photos of people with huge sandwiches.Carnegie Delicatessen is located within the casino of the Mirage Hotel. Hidden inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is a fantastic steak deal. Eating at casinos is very cost effective but the fare can be bland and boring. Although this hotel is off the strip it is worth the walk because they have really made an effort with the food. The steak and broccoli is absolutely delicious and if you join the casino (which was free and there were no obligations when we were there) you get a discount. It wasn't what I'd call a special meal but it was excellent, unadulterated food that was cooked to perfection. When you think of Las Vegas you think of the big plush Strip hotels like the Belagio and the Wynn. And you also think of a big dent in your wallet.
Now beautiful as these hotels are they aren't for everyone-some people have a limited budget or don't want to send huge amounts on a room they will barely be in with so much to do in Las Vegas.
Let me introduce you to las Vegas's best kept secret-The Orleans Hotel and Casino.
Is it on the strip? No It's a 7 min free shuttle ride away-less tme than it can take to travel from one Strip hotel to another.
By Las Vegas standards it's "small" less than 2000 rooms and what nice rooms they are too. Larger than many Strip rooms- the expected bathroom -with the unexpected bonus of a window that actually opens. the hotel has ten different eating places, a multiplex cinema, a huge pool and a seventy lane bowling alley.
The staff are exellent-because the hotel is off the Strip they need to work that little bit harder to keep you there-and they definitely succeed.
Prices? The lowest I've paid midweek is $29 and never as much as $100 at the weekend-which for Vegas is amazing.

Hugo's is the top for buttering up your better half,she will love the little touches,the rose,the dim lighting and the sickly smiling faces of the waiters.You go to have a good meal and score big brownie points.
The atmosphere is a 10 with entertainment value to be had from the salad cart "show",the British wine waiter,and some waiter is alwys happy to oblige the punters by setting fire to something at the table.
Here is the itinery for the evening.
Arrive in dimly lit cellar,wife gets a Rose,seated with a flourish,3 waiters come and do their thing and you know that there is romance in the air,soft drinks,wine.and water on the table,into the starter,snails was the choice.
Red hot and still bubbling these ones came with a pasty topping.Taste fine,not the best but OK.Clear the table and the salad cart comes to town 4 differnt dressings 9 different toppings,the waiter goes through the list and you select to taste.Salad come the way you want it so no complaints here.
I go for the steak it was OK,not great,just a steak.The other half for the fish it was good but not the best we have had.Too full for the desserts now but we had them waved under our noses to tempt us.Then out come the cocolate covered fruit to finish.
Job done,Â£130.00 including tip and wine for 2 not bad

This is the best Chinese in Vegas,no bland food here ,everything has flavour.
The value is excellent the service prompt .Tip; get a reservation a couple of days before and the wait is cut down to 20 mins.Honey shrimp is the top one to have watch out for the garlic noodles very strong,all the dishes are first class.It is "cheap as chips" as we say in the UK.
You just have to go.

Noisy and busy,food big big portions take care to look at other peoples portions first and then order.Leave room for cheesecake!We went for nachos between the two of us and they were very good.
The menu is huge and varied,the service is quick and perfunctory.
The Cheescake selection is great and you can always bag it for later if you peaked too early.
Great value for money and high quality reliable food in huge portions.
We have been to the Branch in Orlando and it is the same.

Great steak shame aboput the service............
We were in a party of more than 8 and considered removing the 18% automatic service charge.We ordered 2 entrees and one of them was wrong and a rush order had to be placed.
The waiter kept tapping one of the guests on the shoulder to get her attention,What is that all about????
The staff were lax and slacking in thier approach Groups of staff standing round chatting.
The steak is aged and thick and tasty.
Great steaks and onion rings too.
The food is always well cooked and tasty
$100 a head was a good value for a great steak.
Shame aboput the service.

The best value meal in Vegas.
Having eaten at Olives Le Cirque and Picasso this one hit us out of the blue it was just the best....by a long way.
The food here is pure,no superflous ingredients and the service was very good,our server knew all about the ingredients and had tasted all the dishes we ordered.10/10 for the whole meal.
Dover sole simply cooked and looking and tasting fantastic.
USA Kobe beef,just outstanding there were 3 slices each presented with a vegetable mash and jus.Individually the flavours were OK,but when the steak was matched with the jus and mash as one mouthful ..well it was outstanding
The whole was more than the sum of it's parts.
You need to go ...we will again!!The best value meal in Vegas.

Olives is a don't bother restaurant, cheesecake factory atmosphere at fine dining prices complete with pretentions of grandure .The food is over prepared and lacks focus.
We had fresh oysters 9/10
Onion soup...awful most coffee shops can do better....hell I could do better,lacks depth of flavour and has no mouth feel also the onions were not cut correctly, too chunky.
Mahi Mahi was 6/10 just OK and not distinuishable from any other fish.
The crowning dissapointment was the breaded veal with pasta,sound good don't it,but they read and cook the veal and then cover it with a pasta that has way too much flavour in it,(not in a good way either).This means the veal is lost in the dish and begs the question why bread some veal only to have the crisp coating turned to baby food where a sloppy pasta is dumped on top of it 0/10
Not even a nice try guys!
Oh and the table was too small to fit all the dishes on it.

"Just because you can does NOT mean you should"
Oh where to start on this one....The servers are plentiful,obsequious,and over attentive.At one point there were 2 guests for every server!We were asked 4 times if we were in a rush to get to a show!Flys round honey!!
The food was good
amuse bouche blue cheese ham roll walnut 8/10
Asparagus Hollandaise Ok the sauce could have been tarter and the asparagus was jut overcooked 8/10
Snails were just right 9/10
Veal chop brussels mash and apple thingy 7/10..not all the ingredients came together on this plate to compliment each other
Lobster mushroom tortellini 7/10 as above really
Pudding 10/10 strawberry souffle
petits fours were very good too
The wine list was poor as it was a direct lift from the wine list available for room service in the hotel(Bellagio)...lazy ...very lazy.
It was a good meal over all but in the context of the AAA and michelin ratings it does beg the question on the criteria used to rate these restaurants.
All the savoury dishes were over egged with one or more ingredients too many.

Reno is the city to make vacations with great entertainment and adventure. The city is recognizing for its well attractions and great amenities for visitors. This is in the United State of Nevada which Also the mountains and hiking best places are there. This the second largest gaming place to get entertainment and recreations. If you like to want to do put the sport activities in your vacations then none other than better place like that. Hotels, casino, restaurants and other spots are the main attractions of the city.
The vacations days are most entertaining days but I found more entertainment and adventure when I was visited there. The lodging problem was not there rather hotels in reno,nv were in most attractive and delight places were. And you canâ¬"t imagine that there were many of three star hotels facilities available at the low rates.
City that was also so amazing texture and more recreational attractions were there. I was really enjoyed that vacations days in Reno city. And got visit some pleasant places of the city were Nevada Museum of Art, Reno Central Library, Rancho San Rafael Park, Idlewild Park and many more. In that places full enjoyed my vacations days and also get the other entertaining act like running, biking, swimming. The great look of the big library that was also famous in the city. The look building architecture was so marvelous and no one can match it.
Reno National Championship Air Races, the Great Reno Balloon Race, Reno Rodeo and Nevada State Fair also the event attractions of the city to get more recreation there.
Also the in the city there I was also took the enjoyment of the mountain biking. Such so mind-blowing stunts I saw there.
The city is the full completely entertaining city that so why every year many of visitors visited there. That city contains lodging like hotel deals and inns to get best stay facilities and more entertainment there. Night life attractions of the city was the matchless and make vacations days so pleasant and full of adventurous.
