...hygiene is not a priority. For example, one day an assistant took payment for coffee and then made a sandwich for the next person without washing her hands, and I have seen staff handwash cups not very well, once putting one away with lipstick or something on it and then wiping it away with her finger. I think lack of training is the issue. Pity, because the coffee is very good and the food looks excellent (I've only ever had coffee there)....hygiene is not a priority. I fancied a Pad Thai, and checked the 'Scores on Doors' website to see how the Thai restaurants in Richmond fared. Hmmm... let's just say there are a couple of them I won't be going to again. Thankfully Thai Elephant scored well enough so that is where we headed one Sunday for lunch.

Thai Elephant, located next to the Richmond Bus Station, looks old-fashioned from the outside and the inside is much the same. Simple, comfortable decor and family friendly from the looks of our fellow diners. We were greeted at the door by a smiley waiter, though our waitress was less smiley, more surly. Loved their elephant t-shirts though.

I ordered the aforementioned Pad Thai, with chicken, and Alex had the Beef Jungle Curry with Coconut Steamed Rice. Dishes were served piping hot, portion sizes were good and flavours as expected. We gave this place a shot as a better alternative to other fast food resaurants, however, we were rather shocked at the price of a burger and chips with sauces - Â£12 each!! We would normally pay that at a good restaurant not something that has the feel of a glorified Mcdonald's. Okay the chicken burgers were better than MCs but they were cold by the time they got to us and so were the portion of chips which we recieved ten minutes after the burgers (of which we had already finished). Also, don't even think of buying a veggie burger for they were worse than the cheaper MaC alternative - just a lot of mush with no flavour and fell apart as soon as you took your first bite - yet were still eight quid for just the burger! Also the decor was poor given the prices and the place was totally empty with no atmosphere and this was on a Friday evening - hardly a dining experience. Given the prices and the fast-food feel to the place I can't see how this chain will last that long, particualry with the up and coming recession. If you and your family are going out for a dining experience then there are plenty of decent restaurants in the Richmond area, to be honest even Nandos/TGIs is better in value and at least have some atmosphere. It saddens me when I drive or walk by this place and see only a few tables full... the food, the staff, and the ambience are all terrific! Pomegranate is an excellent Turkish restaurant serving authentic fare.

I forget the name of what I ordered - but it was basically a minced lamb stuffed aubergine.. it was delicious! They serve wonderful pita bread and olives to start. A delicious starter I'd recommend are the mushrooms which are very tasty.

The waiters are all very nice and eager to please. It happens to the best of restaurants.. one minute, it's doing exceptional food and great service, everyone is happy.. the next minute, they decide to change a few things, maybe the chef moves on, and the restaurant you once knew and loved, has gone downhill. Such is the case with the White Horse lately.

About 4-5 months ago, the menu all of a sudden changed to one that constantly offers the same dishes... It used to change its menu daily, a clear indication that the chef relied on whatever he/she could get fresh that day to come up with the most quality menu. There used to be excellent, creative and adventurous choices on the menu like camel, zebra, other rare game you don't typically find in gastropubs... great fish dishes, and all else, including the burger was exceptional.

I have tried it twice now in the last few months and I'm sad to say that things have changed at the White Horse and I'm no longer pleased with the menu or the atmosphere. Gone are the cozy couches - more tables have been added in as it's clear that the new White Horse wants to churn tables. The menu stays the same day after day, week after week. I'd actualy be fine wth this if what was on offer was good. I've had their "new" burger which is very average (their old burger was delicious!). My friend had their risotto and had to send it back... When she asked the waiter how long ago the risotto was made, he came back and actually said that it was made in the morning (!!!).. which explained why it was chewy and clumped together rather than as freshly made risotto should be.

Clearly something has happened - some decisions have been made to change things.. possibly the management was looking for some cost savings.. Whatever the case, I have not gone back. Tide Tables - Lovely located cafe where you can sit & lose time by nip_and_nosh

Tide Tables is like a hidden treasure... in summer months, sit in the shade of the enormous trees and watch the river and all the strollers go by. You can come here alone to sit and people-watch, or to read a paper, or you come here with friends, family to catch up over a coffee or a light lunch.

Food and drinks here are fuss-free.. All the food is displayed. You simply point to what you'd like, order your teas and coffees, and take your heated up paninis, quiches, pies, tarts, or cakes outside to any inviting table.. or pull up a chair right by the ledge overlooking the Thames.

The coffee drinks are about average - but when it's a beautiful day on the Thames, it can feel like the best coffee you've ever had! The food also is nothing too stand-out.. I have had their spinach/cheese foccacia which was very bland... Better choices have been the vegetarian burrito and the feta/tomato/olive salad.

Their indoor space is quite small, yet inviting. In winter time, it can be quite crammed on a Sunday - but it still can feel cozy. The co-ed toilets are a little awkward, but we'll say it's all part of the charm :)

I rarely eat Indian food. I like it, but it doesn't like me. But when I kept reading good reports about a new Indian restaurant called Swagat, located just down the road from my place, curiosity got the better of me.

We arrived to a warm greeting from the smiling staff, and enjoyed their friendly, courteous service throughout our meal. The menu was more up-market than your standard curry house and there was plenty that caught our eye.

In the end we ordered one starter, two main courses, rice and naan. My favourite dish was the starter, Aloo Tikki Chaat, which was Spiced potato cake served on a bed of tangy chickpeas, very delish. In fact, all the food was excellent, the chicken and lamb curries were not at all oily, with well marinated, very tender meat.

The Orangery is a cafÃ© and self-service restaurant located in Kew Gardens, hence only accessible to those who have paid to access the Gardens. It is housed in an attractive Grade 1 listed building, with a sunny terrace at the front for those rare, drizzle free days.

I recently visited Kew Gardens with a friend and we stopped by the Orangery for some morning tea. The self-service area is very clean and well fitted out. The food they were preparing for lunch looked and smelt good, and I was pleased by the large selection of fresh-looking cakes.

My friend had a coffee and a slice of Lemon Drizzle Cake, while I had a pot of tea and a slice of Chocolate & Coconut Cake. As it is self-serve, we could choose which slice we wanted which was particularly useful in this case as the size of the slices varied greatly! Believe it or not, I didn't choose the biggest slice.

I lived in London 3 years ago in Hounslow so I was very lucky to be close enough to Richmond. I was shown this pub by someone from the area and I continued to go back almost every week. It was such a friendly place to be especially when my friend left and I was alone. I used to sit there for hours just drinking and writing home. I was introduced to Honey Dew organic beer here. I absolutely loved it. Quality food, great service and superb value Don Fernandos is always a regular when my stomach starts to rumble.

The food is fresh and flavoursome and if Spanish cuisine is for you then this is the place.

The staff are first class and you can rely upon them to even order for you and get it right.

If you haven't been, go there tonight and if you've been before, get yourselves down there again.

I do really love Strada - their food is fresh and inviting, and generally excellent value for money. This visit was a disappointment, however. My linguine was rather dull, and I thought that my chocolate pudding was positively stale! (I have had this pudding at other Strada restaurants, and it is normally delicious. It is also possible that it was not stale, but had simply been cooked wrongly).

One important factor if visiting this restaurant at present (and this review is posted on 22nd September 2008) - Richmond town centre is hell on earth at the present due to road works, and you are well advised to park and walk! I took my best friend (who is a sushi expert) here the other weekend and we thought it was brilliant. The menu is extensive, the food was very good, service was excellent and, even better, it was one of the best value places I have eaten in for months (Â£3 for 6 maki rolls).

I now regularly grab a take-away from here on weeknights and they do offer a delivery service (but only for over Â£17.00 and only after 6.30pm or thereabouts).

Together with good parking it boasts a well furnished beer garden at the front. Inside the welcome is friendly and warm and always professional. This refurbished hostelry has an excellent chef and good service together with live music most nights of the week ranging from Classical piano to jazz and guitar. Just back from an idyllic lunch at Petersham Nurseries Restaurant (not to be confused with the cafÃ©). The restaurant is open for lunch, six days a week, and is housed in a pretty nursery greenhouse. Your rickety chair wobbles on the dirt floor as you eat some very pricy food, surrounded by pot plants and creepers. But the food was very good, and the gorgeous setting seemed to numb the pain of the bill a little.

We timed our visit to coincide with a 'chef swap' that was taking place - Petersham's regular head chef, Skye Gyngell, had traded places with top Sydney chef Sean Moran for a month.

The menu was small, with only 5 choices per course. We started with the Beetroot Ravioli with Ticklemore Aged Goats Cheese. I really loved this dish - not only did it look fabulous but the flavours worked really really well. Main course was the Milk Fed Veal Chop barbequed with peperonata, sage, runner beans and anchovy butter; and the Hampshire Pork, roasted with fennel, greengages & butternut squash. Both meals were generous in size and flavours. Really happy with our choices.

Unfortunately there was nothing on the dessert menu we fancied, so we paid up, and wandered back across Petersham Meadows, dodging cowpats along the way, and stopped off at our favourite chocolate shop for a sweet treat.

Rating: 5.00At CC's Pizza (a firm favourite of mine) they make the "Best Pizza in Richmond", well, the best deep-pan pizza in Richmond anyway. This family-run takaway pizza house has been going for many years, and likewise I have been ordering from them for a long time. Always my stomach is satisfied and so is my wallet. Extremely good pizza for an afordable price with a very decent delivery sevice. I went here for a private party and the loved it from the very first moment of walking through the door. The staff were extremely good. The owner Lorraine, used to run Sticky Fingers and it def has the whole rock and roll chick theme. You can imagine Kate Moss sipping her drink whilst chatting to Marianne Faithful about rock star boyfriends.
