Rating: 5.00Great food in a great setting, as the restaurant is on the upstairs section of a houseboat, with good pub Charters located downstairs serving a good selection of real beer.
It's a nice mix of Oriental dishes ranging from the usual standards to some slightly more unusual items, the staff are always friendly and well-informed, and I've eaten there several times over last few years - and the quality is always consistent...Great food in a great setting, as the restaurant is on the upstairs section of a houseboat, with good pub Charters located downstairs serving a good selection of real beer.

I have no criticism of the food at this establishment but the service we received today was absolutely appalling. Starting with getting the drinks completely wrong and moving through delivering food we did not order, not delivering food we did order and expressing disbelief when we ordered another dish ("You want sweet and sour chicken as WELL AS all this?!") and ending up by subjecting us to witnessing a verbal assault on a junior member of staff while we stood and waited for our credit card back, the whole thing was very very poor. Even when there were only four tables eating, we could not get anyone to attend to us, and when we did it was rude and abrupt. After reading Sienna's review I must say I am left a little confused, I'm from Oakham and heard about the Beijing Rendezvous through my Dad who has always lived in Peterborough. We all went for a meal last January and found it very pleasant, food was delicious (mum even commented it was the best lemon chicken she had eaten)and we also found the staff quite friendly and very obliging, they also left you alone while you were eating which we thought was considerate. Facilities were nice and clean too (none of this squatting over the toilet).

We went back in the March for my birthday and found the service and food just as good as before. They do add a service charge to your bill but I believe it is well worth it, we are going back again for my birthday next week!

I ate at Riva on Valentines night, as we were going to a show later in the evening. Having eaten at the restaurant before and been disappointed, having heard that it had been taken over i decided to give it another try...and my goodness what a change!!

The food was fantastic, it was excellently presented, freshly cooked and i was pleased to see that the typical valentines restricting set menu was not being used.

The service was very good, consistant throughout and nothing was too much trouble.

The menu had a lot of choice and i struggled to choose. In the end i went for Pasta Paradiso (chicken & prawn pasta) and my partner had an aubergine dish with grilled and marinaded vegetables and the most gorgeous looking king prawns!!

Anyone who hasnt had a good experience at Riva in the past i really would recommend trying it again. I have been to this restaurant many time over the past 9 years; new years day 2009 was the last straw. The food for six was only just warm, the restuarant was cold, the service was slow, and the food was disappointing. Rating: 4.00It is just a small restaurant, yet the environment is comfortable n staff are very friendly.

Most importantly, me and my family have never been disappointed by the food quality every time we visit. They also do takeaway service!

This is a brilliant little take-away place in centre of town that sells great good at cheap prices. Easy to get to as it's right next to the main bus depot.

I've been here quite a few times for food and each time the service and quality of the food has been good. The staff are pleasant and the prices are more than reasonable for their meal deal offers.

They also have a big tv in the eating area which usually has the latest sports on it(don't hold me to it though).

Definitely recommend if you are looking for a quick and cheap meal during your lunch break or on a night out.

Located just off the market place and very popular with people of all ages. During term times it gets packed out with students. An excellent selection of food from light snacks to full meals all at excellent prices. Full range of teas and coffees too. There's plenty of seating available as they have additional tables upstairs. Staff are friendly and the service is good. It's a good place to sit and people watch too, if you get a window seat as you have a great view of the market place.

Sit and enjoy and coffee and watch the world go by.Located just off the market place and very popular with people of all ages. During term times it gets packed out with students. The main problem with Peranakan is that it used to be a Little Chef so is located near a busy road next to a service station. The menu is limited however, the food you get is very tasty and good quality. All freshly cooked. Our two boys love going there as we are often the only people in the restaurant so it's like our own private place. They love oriental food too and would soon say if it was not up to standard. Good prices too. Although you need to check opening times before you go and these too are limited. The place was refurbished a few years ago so offers ample space and you can normally find a table. If you want to eat you need to find a table and then when you order tell them what area you are sitting in as it's colour coded rather than numbers. There's an excellent selection of wines, which always pleases me! There is a wide variety of food on the menu and also a specials board so something for everyone to choose. Food is normally served quickly and is a good standard. It's good value for money. You can also settle your bill with one of the waiters/waitresses rather than queue at the bar. Even though it has been refurbished they have retained the character of the place.
