A small but lovely cafe that serves hand picked fillings to salads, sandwiches and potatoes etc.. I take my son there every other saturday and the ladies are very welcoming and are on hand to help if i need an extra napkin, or if he knocks the fork on the floor. Other places i feel flustered but here it is really relaxed. I am in the process of organising a lunch for a team of 20 + work colleagues. I called to enquire about menu's. Having seen the 2 meals for Â£9.95 advertised on the boards outside on my daily commute to and from work, I was informed by an incredibly unhelpful man that "we don't do that", I then went on to ask about lunchtime specials but again was given "we don't do any - our meals start at Â£2.95" when asking if he could email or fax me a menu ............ guess what the response was yeah you've got it "we don't do that, if you want a menu you'll have to come a fetch it yourself" Needless to say we are going back to The Boathouse which offers excellent service, great atmosphere, great food and incredibly helpful members of staff!
I work in a Customer Services environment and believe me, this is NOT the way to treat potential customers. Kung Fu Kitchen launched around two years ago, when we'd just moved to a new area, and it was probably the best welcome gift we had.
Really good food, which wouldn't be out of place being served in a restaurant, plus great service. After our first couple of orders, we'd get a call after a couple of hours to check everything was OK with our order, and there are always good special offers going on.
It's probably a good sign of confidence that they publish a regular newsletter with cooking tips - it hasn't stopped us ordering all the time.
The menu features Chinese standards, with the occasional unusual dish, and a selection of Thai meals as well.
The Salt and Pepper chicken wings are highly recommended, as is the Curry Roast Duck and Chow Mein.
It's worth noting that a lot of the dishes are on the spicy side - in fact after customer suggestions, the curry has become even hotter.

Possibly the best pub in Peterborough, and certainly one of the best choices in the city centre.
A good selection of beer, including award-winning Oakham Ales, complimented by tasty and reasonably priced Thai food in generous portions.
It's also quite a large and airy pub, with several comfy sofas if you can grab them, and the staff are generally welcoming and friendly...even if they sometimes need help reminding orders on a busy Friday or Saturday.
it's open till late on weekends with DJs, and can get a bit too busy for a meal, but the Thai Fries and chicken wings are great for mopping up some of the beer.
Luckily there are only ever TV screens etc for the really big matches, and being between the city centre and the station means most of the local hooligans can't be bothered to walk that far.

Rating: 5.00Great food in a great setting, as the restaurant is on the upstairs section of a houseboat, with good pub Charters located downstairs serving a good selection of real beer.

I have no criticism of the food at this establishment but the service we received today was absolutely appalling. Starting with getting the drinks completely wrong and moving through delivering food we did not order, not delivering food we did order and expressing disbelief when we ordered another dish ("You want sweet and sour chicken as WELL AS all this?!") and ending up by subjecting us to witnessing a verbal assault on a junior member of staff while we stood and waited for our credit card back, the whole thing was very very poor. Even when there were only four tables eating, we could not get anyone to attend to us, and when we did it was rude and abrupt. At first glance it looked ok but the food was terrible. Potatoes burn and everything else tasted like it had been run through the microwave.

After reading Sienna's review I must say I am left a little confused, I'm from Oakham and heard about the Beijing Rendezvous through my Dad who has always lived in Peterborough. We all went for a meal last January and found it very pleasant, food was delicious (mum even commented it was the best lemon chicken she had eaten)and we also found the staff quite friendly and very obliging, they also left you alone while you were eating which we thought was considerate. Facilities were nice and clean too (none of this squatting over the toilet).

We went back in the March for my birthday and found the service and food just as good as before. They do add a service charge to your bill but I believe it is well worth it, we are going back again for my birthday next week!

I ate at Riva on Valentines night, as we were going to a show later in the evening. Having eaten at the restaurant before and been disappointed, having heard that it had been taken over i decided to give it another try...and my goodness what a change!!

The food was fantastic, it was excellently presented, freshly cooked and i was pleased to see that the typical valentines restricting set menu was not being used.

The service was very good, consistant throughout and nothing was too much trouble.

The menu had a lot of choice and i struggled to choose. In the end i went for Pasta Paradiso (chicken & prawn pasta) and my partner had an aubergine dish with grilled and marinaded vegetables and the most gorgeous looking king prawns!!

Anyone who hasnt had a good experience at Riva in the past i really would recommend trying it again. The pub has 2 bars and a seperate restaurant offering quality home cooked food at very reasonable prices.
The bars always have at least 2 real ales available which are kept exceptionally well by a very knowledgable landlord.
There are 2 beer gardens one for smokers (with patio heaters) and one for non smokers and there is a very large enclosed grass area for children to play in the summer.
During the year there are many special events including parties for families at Easter, Halloween and Christmas.

Having used the Good Pub Guide many times with excellent results we were in the area of Wadenhoe and found the Kings Head. It is a loveley pub in a lovely location and as it was a bitterly cold day we could not wait to try their home made soup. It came well presented on a board with wonderful bread but it was in fact I'm sure (I am qualified cook) tinned tomatoes wizzed in a blender with chives on top. For 2 bowls we were charged Â£9.00.
