As a University city Newcastle's venues divide themselves firmly to align with one uni or the other and this is predominately the terain of college students, and Northumbria Uni students. In term time the club does a lot to encourage rivalry between the two uni's with competitions, jeering songs etc. The club is filled with a very young crowd, drinking a lot and wearing a little. Even the bar staff wear bikinis. This club is not somewhere you can sit and talk, but if your idea of a good holiday is a week in Ibiza/Feleraki etc, this probably would seem like the best night out in Newcastle. Drinks are not overly expensive, but basic choice. The dance floor is continually under a puddle of said drinks, don't wear nice shoes! Whilst the same can be said of most clubs to one extent or another, this club is by and large a meat market, and doesn't attempt to hide that. Unfortunately if you don't want to be one of the not-so-pretty-people trying to mate in a corner, you leave feeling skint, slightly degraded and very, very dirty.Blu Bambu is central to the Bigg Market, which comes with the infamous reputation for short skirts, drunkeness, violence and loose morals. It was at least 200 people waiting in the queue to get in like there was some celebrities in the club. I was not too happy to wait in the queue for an hour before I could finally enter the club. The door men were quite strict in your attire and ID. I paid £8.50 for the entrance which I think it was a little too costly. But as soon as I got it I thought it was worth it. The dance music was playing downstairs, which was the main part of the club, and the rnb music was playing upstairs in a separate and a smaller room. The DJs really worked it to add fun to the crowd by using the mic appropriately. Everyone was clearly enjoying themselves moving at the dance floor. There was quite a number of bar at the venue and I did not have to wait long to be served. The toilet, however, was poorly managed as it was dirty, smelly and hot. But I suppose it is the same in most night clubs. Overall, I think it was a positive experience and it would be better if I did not have to wait too long in the queue. When I arrived at the venue at about 12:20am, I was shocked by the length of queue. Despite numerous changes in management over the years, a Monday night down at the Coop is still your best bet for an exciting mix of danceable indie tunes and local lives acts. As mentioned in the other review it's quite a unique building inside, so you'll have to watch your head on a few of the old low wooden door frames, but you can't beat drinking to unbeatable views of the Tyne through it's time decayed windows upstairs.

Has been graced by some cool bands in it's time - check it out, it won't dissapoint! One of the oldest buildings on Newcastle's quayside remains one of it's best pubs and clubs.

The cosy little bar downstairs serves a nice range of well priced beers and maintains a great atmosphere most nights of the week.

The club upstairs is a bit more of a mixed bag depending on which night you arrive.
