I love this pub. Its a small, simple but fantastic pub. No frills, nothing flash, just down to earth. The service is great. The atmosphere is friendly, quiet and relaxing. The view of the Tyne from the beer garden is amazing. The best place for a photo, capturing all the Tyne's bridges. Love love love this pub!I love this pub. Its a small, simple but fantastic pub. Rating: 4.00The Boathouse in Newburn is situated right on the banks of the river. It has space in front of the pub for parking and a lovely big beer garden out the back. The pub is small and traditional but very welcoming, with really friendly staff. The owner's gorgeous dogs tend to scamper about too, which for a dog lover, was a delight in itself. The prices aren't too bad for draught and the house double spirits are good value. The food here is alos spot on - a party of 6 of us enjoyed Sunday lunch here a couple of months ago and we were very impressed. There was a choice of 4 meats (or a combo of all 4), served with big platters of veg, roasties, beautiful homemade yorkshire puds and really meaty gravy. The portions were a good size and halfway through the meal, the very friendly and attentive waitress asked if we would like any extra roasties or yorkshires - fab! I visited The Lounge again last night (a Tuesday evening) for the first time in about 2 years. We were enticed into the bar by the signs promising happy hour offers and 'The Buzzer Game', which gave customers the chance to win reduced price/free drinks. We were really chuffed when we got 2 pints for Â£2.90 by getting half price drinks! My pint of Red C cider went down very well and I'm assured that my boyfriend's pint of Tuborg was also very nice. The pub is large and had a mixed clientele of students, young professionals and more mature customers. The games machine offered added entertainment for punters and I was also impressed with the food menu, even though I didn't sample it: a big emphasis is placed on the 'mix and mash' section of the menu, which offers a wide variety of different sausgaes, types of mash and styles of gravy, for Â£5.95. There were also lots of other dishes on the menu. The only negative aspect of The Lounge were the toilets - they were miles away and as they can be accessed from the street without having to even enter the bar, I feel they're a security risk, especially for female customers.I visited The Lounge again last night (a Tuesday evening) for the first time in about 2 years. I've only visited Red House (which is situated on Newcastle's Quayside) once, but I did like the bar. It's very traditional inside, just like its neighbour Bob Trollope's, but it's bigger with more seating. We went in on a St Patrick's Day a couple of years ago and we really enjoyed it. There are TVs around the pub showing sports and music videos and the clientele are quite mature and very friendly. The bar staff were also very pleasant and more than happy to give out Guinness memorabilia! The drinks were pretty reasonably priced and the atmosphere in the pub was very pleasant. I also had a look at the food menu and liked what I saw, although I didn't order anything. The Bewick House is a bar located right next to Central Station. It's quite a large bar that has fantastic food and drink offers: many of the food offers are Â£3.50, including lasagne, chips & salad and curry, rice & chips. There are also great 2 for 1 offers on Strongbow, Foster's, John Smiths, house wine, selected spirits and bottles before 8pm during the week. The bar was qquite busy when we visited recently on a Tuesday night and the bar man was really helpful and friendly. There's lots of seating dotted around the bar, much of it in the form of really comfy sofas. There was also music on in the bar and music videos playing. Gotham Town is a nice place to visit for food and reasonably priced drinks. The decor is very gothic, which gives the place a fantastic atmosphere. Gotham offers a wide range of drinks and has offers on selected bottles and doubles throuhgout the week. The food is also good value - the burgers are really nice, as are the chicken kievs. Being situated in a prime location, just opposite Central Station, Gotham is very popular with travellers and locals alike. I've only visited The Old George once and I was quite impressed by the cosy, traditional feel of the pub. The bar is deceptively large, with lots of different rooms and levels. The drinks are reasonably priced and there's music playing all day. The crowd tend to be more mature but they're really friendly and welcoming. We sat up some stairs at the back of the oub, in a really cosy little spot. We loved the history of the place, with The Old George claiming to be one of the oldest pubs in Newcastle, and also claiming to be haunted! The courtyard area outside the pub is also a nice place for smokers and the bar & door staff are really friendly. My advice? Destination is an average sized, fashionable bar situated eight next door to the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle City Centre. This basement bar is accessed by a flight of stairs, which unfortunately would make it difficult or impossible for disabled people to visit the bar. Inside, the bar is quite spacious with a modern decor and plenty of seating. The drinks aren't cheap, but there are plenty of offers to take advantage of, including the buzzer game: this entitles you to either full priced drinks, BOGOF, half priced drinks or free drinks. Food is also served at Destination which I've never sampled, but looks good value. Despite drinking in Newcastle for about 8 years, I had never ventured into Jimmyz until a few weeks ago. Located on the Quayside, Jimmyz is quite a trendy looking bar and is always busy, especially at weekends. We ventued into Jimmyz on a Saturday night, enticed by the poster in the window that offered 2 bottles of Bulmers cider for Â£5. The bar inside was beautifully decorated, with a range of different fabrics and light fittings used to create a really nice atmosphere. The place was jam-packe dwith young trendies, professionals and some older people too. A word of warnign though - although my 2 bottles of Bulmers only set me back a very respectable Â£5, two vodka and cranberries cost a mate almost a tenner! Jimmyz only serves double measures, so be aware. I used to drink in The Quilted Camel when I was about 18 and hadn't been in here for years, until a few weeks ago. The decor is really nice - quite glamourous, with lots of different fabrics. I visited on a Tuesday night and unsuprisingly it was very quiet. There were a range of offers available, including treble spirits for Â£3, which we of course took advantage of! The prices of the other dirnks were rather expensive - nothing compared to the Â£1.75 cocktails that I used to consume on a Monday night, back in 2003! Clear bar is one of our usual haunts whenever my friends and I descend upon Newcastle for a night out. Situated close to Central Station and major shopping areas, Clear is a small and narrow bar with a nice (if a bit small) outdoor area for smokers. The music played in here on a weekend is very funky and the bar really does get rammed. One of the only things that puts me off about Clear is the fact that it gets so busy - it's definitely not for anybody who is at all claustrophobic. I have to agree with the last reviewer, gingerchrismc. I have been to the pub both before and after the smoking ban, and can confirm there has been a marked improvement. Almost a new place in fact! Yes its a traditional pub, but the regulars are friendly and seem to want new people coming into the pub so they have a new person to talk to and share their stories! The staff are equally friendly and the choice of food on offer does not change on a regular basis. All of which is cooked to perfection by the way! This is a fantastic place to go with friends for a fabulous night out. One of my main problems with the area is the amount of places which are crammed full of youngsters getting drunk and causing trouble. That is definitely NOT the case with the Brandling Arms. The clientelle is definitely sophisticated - possibly due to the type of drink sold here, the prices and also the food. The staff are fantastic, so friendly and nice! its great just to fall into the comfy sofa and chat to friends. The food here is also excellent, not cheap but you get loads. It really is a great place!This is a fantastic place to go with friends for a fabulous night out. The Pitcher and Piano is in an amazing location, on the Quayside area of Newcsatle and just a stone's throw away from the River Tyne. The glass front of the bar enables it's patrons to view the river and the bridges as they eat and drink, which lends a fantastically relaxed atmosphere to the bar. The drinks are expensive, no doubt about that, but we were lucky enough to have vouchers for free Budweiser, which saved us a small fortune. Revolution has got to be one of the most impressive bars in Newcastle - an old bank, the vaulted ceilings and sheer beauty of the place is amazing. As a vodka lover, I adore the range of my favourite tipple in here, especially cherry colas and the minty, creamy cocktails - sorry, can't remember their name! The food served in Revolution also looks lovely, with special offers constantly available. Despite the bar having quite a few areas to sit down, at weekends the bar becomes packed full of people standing up, and is not for the claustrophobic among us. Perdu deserves a mention for its outdoor area alone - a huge expanse of 'astro turf', it is totally unique and makes smokers feel most welcome! The bar itself is very big, with lovely toilets and an upstairs area. The drinks are as expected - rather expensive - but the atmosphere and decor can almost justify spending over Â£3 for a pint of lager! It gets very busy at weekends with large queues, and does sometimes appear to be full of wag wannabes, but if you can get over this, then sit back, relax and listen to the funky tunes! I love The Union Rooms! The building itself is absolutely beautiful and very grand, with a lovely wide staircase sweeping into the reception and up to the second floor. It's totally unique, with a range of rooms with ample seating and even an old library room, complete with old books! The food and drinks are very reasonably priced, starting from Â£1.70 for a spirit & mixer, with numerous food offers too. In the summer in the main bar area, the huge windows are often opened, which lets a lovely breeze enter the bar and gives you a lovely view of Newcastle's Central Station. Being so close to the station, it's an ideal pub to visit if you're waiting for a train or have just arrived in the city.I love The Union Rooms! This wonderful pub is situated by the River Tyne in the Tyne Valley Riverside Country Park.

Big Lamp Breweries moved here from (you guessed it), Big Lamp, Newcastle in 1996 and converted the old disused water pumping station into a state of the art microbrewery complete with attached pub in which customers can sample the fruits of their labour. Not only does the pub serve a canny bevvy but their food is also fantastic and is well renowned around the area. It has a large beer garden complete with patio heaters which are usually well used despite traditional geordie claims of toughness!

Big Lamp Breweries moved here from (you guessed it), Big Lamp, Newcastle in 1996 and converted the old disused water pumping station into a state of the art microbrewery complete with attached pub in which customers can sample the fruits of their labour. Not only does the pub serve a canny bevvy but their food is also fantastic and is well renowned around the area. It has a large beer garden complete with patio heaters which are usually well used despite traditional geordie claims of toughness!

The Lloyds Quayside bar is one of my favourite places to visit in Newcastle. The bar is large, with a huge outdoor courtyard area containg tables, and another outdoor seating area along the river. There's ample seating in the bar itself, which is over 2 floors and also has a dance floor upstairs. Being part of the Wetherspoons & Lloyds chain, the prices for both food and drinks in this establishment are very reasonable, with the price of a spirit & mixer starting at Â£1.70. There are regular offers on, including Curry Clubs and the Monday Club, where many drinks are very cheaply priced.
