This is one of so many restaurants in manchester but was definitely a good choice. Small style place but with its own individual style. Excellent food, free little starters which always goes down well as a starting point. Excellent choice of meals, something for everyone. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere whether you want a romantic evening meal, or are just going out for a casual meal for a change. Excellent price for what we were given, efficiently served and good wine too. Overall a very good choice of place, and would go back again. I liked the style of furniture, it is a functional place as well as a cut above a lot of other manchester food places.This is one of so many restaurants in manchester but was definitely a good choice. I have nothing but praise for this fabulous restaurant. Over many years I have visited when in Manchester and the manager always remembers our group who visit for the Cycling Championships which we take part in. Always a smile and handshake although we are not regularly in the area. Professional service, lovely atmosphere. You can always rely on fresh, very well prepared food, An absolute delight to eat here. Reasonably expensive, also for wine, but what you would expect in a place like this. Congenial atmosphere and despite Manchester's many restaurants, this is the one I would always go back to. Definitely recommended. The starter I had (onion bhagi) was a very meagre portion, and was overcooked to the point of being burnt. The main course (lamb rogan josh) was adequate, but the dessert (Stawberry Eton Mess Cheesecake) was the biggest disappointment. It took them 45 minutes to eventually serve a party of seven (two had their desert after 20 minutes, and the rest of us had another 25 minute wait until ours was served!) we had to badger various members of staff until finally getting served, and when it came, mine was frozen solid - obviously it had just been taken out of the freezer!!! A great quirky, wonky pub in the centre of Manchester that almost looks out of place near the shiny Arndale Centre.

Nice ambience, quite cosy - you do sit very close to the people / table next to you. It does get very busy on weekends, expect to queue, only problem with this is that there is only a small entrance so there is no where to really wait - we ended up standing outside the restaurant (thankfully it wasn't raining!). Food is delicious though and reasonably priced. Rating: 2.00Last visited this restaurant in January and was disappointed that the quality of the food had deteriorated. My friends and I had previously visited it on a fairly regular basis as the staff have always been friendly and the food was reasonably priced and enjoyable. Was the last visit a blip? I took a group of family and friends with me and found one or two dishes inedible. We should have complained but as it was a family celebration I didn't feel it was appropriate. I regret having said nothing now and we have never made a return visit.Last visited this restaurant in January and was disappointed that the quality of the food had deteriorated. I have enjoyed many evenings at Dimitris sampling the the mixed platter while working my way through a few bottles of wine. There is nothing better than bagging a table under the arch on a hot summer night (obviously not this year)! I did once come with a very large group and sat downstairs - the food was still good but it felt a little claustrophobic. However it can become very crowded at the weekend so you do risk being squeezed into a corner. It's not cheap but so many people wouldn't patronise the place if they didn't think it was worth it. We did once sit near a couple who slipped out without paying, taking advantage of the fact that the staff were exceptionally busy. Wednesday evenings may not be the best time to visit! We had to wait 15 minutes for a table, however when we were seated there was only around another 10 tables eating, I can only put this down to the fact that there was only 2 waiters at the time who did do a sterling job though!

Our only real problem was with my starter of chicken wings, I had commented that they were not very hot to my daughter and as I worked my way through them they got colder, a bit pinker, and finally raw flesh. (Note to waiter, when someone tells you food is undercooked, dont argue that its supposed to look like that, go check it!)
Anyway it was whisked away, and taken off the bill.

My daughter chose to eat her pork chop without the bramley apple topping which was a pity as this was the only thing that made the meat moist, other than that it was overcooked and dry.
I had the Red, White and Blue burger which was perfectly cooked, medium as I asked and was pink like it should be. The only downside was the blue cheese which was so strong it was overpowering the taste of everything else, and I had to admit defeat!

Full kudos to the manager though, he came out and explained that the temperature knob on the machine that cooked the chicken had been knocked and was consequently not cooking the chicken through properly. Not only did he take off the chicken wings, but also gave us 50% off the rest of the bill, as we had just ordered 2 rather expensive cocktails as a treat I def wasnt going to complain!

I would also recommend not sitting in the booths at the back, halfway through our meal some god awful attempt at music started up next door, and was so loud the floor and table was vibrating!

I've been to this restaurant several times over the years - usually for special occasions as its a bit pricey - but well worth every penny. The steak on offer here is the best I've sampled. The restaurant is housed in what used to be an old department store and the high ceiling and atrium gives it a very quirky appeal. Staff service is excellent. You have to define why you want to go here before you set foot over the threshold...that will determine whether you have a great night or an expensive disappointment.

The food looks good on paper and the chef has obviously swallowed a list of delicious sounding combinations with one alarming flaw - he hasn't got the skillset to deliver. Everything is average or a little above but sadly is nothing is exceptional. There wasn't a single dish our group ate that couldn't have been bought from one of the world food sections in M&S. Another gripe was that the booths were far too small to dine in comfort with the emphasis on maximising numbers rather than satisfaction. The one thing that was utterly faultless was the service - attentive but subtle and breathtakingly quick with the drinks, up there with the very best.

This is where Panacea excels - it's ability to attract the most attractive people that Manchester has to offer and to put them all together and see what happens. Add to that champagne a more than a smattering of Man Utd players and you get the picture...

We had a friendly waitress, who most importantly plugged my blackberry and charger into the nearest available power point, which was behind the bar. It was her first day and she was eager to help. We were seated by windows on rattan seats with views of the Albert Square. After ordering, we were served reasonably fresh baguette served with a choice of beurre douce d'Isigny and the delicious Beurre d'anchois (anchovy butter).

I had ordered the Salade Poulet - chopped lettuce with chicken, citron mayonnaise, and 2 slices of baguette toast. Unfortunately pretty bland cubes of breast meat over some romaine, little gem and posh lettuce leaves.

My main of Tajine de leÌgumes, a Morrocan Casserole with vegetables and chick peas, served with cous cous was as described. The vegetables weren't overcooked and soggy which was good but the flavour felt incomplete. At least I felt healthier for eating it.

The toilets wer a little musty and unpleasant smelling but the rest of the restaurant was clean. After disappointingly finding that the Northern Quarter Bar and Grill was shut on a Sunday night, our hunger drove us to the nearest visible restaurant... the rather orange looking Sweet Mandarin. The six of us piled into the restaurant to be greeted by friendly staff. The menu consisted of dishes with names not dissimilar to those found in any average Chinese restaurant with typical south-east Asian influences.

I ordered the sesame prawn Fingers (Â£4.20) which sounded a little more interesting that what actually arrived on my plate, sesame prawn toast. Perhaps they should cut the pieces of toast into strips or soldiers... For mains, I had Firecracker Chicken (Â£9) - chicken cooked with fried chilli peppers, chive buds, and fried garlic (close enough to the traditional recipe which should also include Shaoxing wine in the marinade) and sprinkled with cashew nuts. This was accompanied by egg fried rice (Â£2.50). The chicken was unfortunately not tender enough and the egg rice pretty average.

I didn't have high expectations so wasn't that disappointed, more disappointed with my first choice of restaurant being closed. Rating: 4.00We chose this restaurant based on its reviews, and because it looked nice! Al Bilal is not just your ordinary Indian restaurant though, rather strangely it also has a full Thai menu. I have to say the Thai dishes looked absolutely fantastic, but we were there for Indian, so maybe next time!

Firstly I have to say the staff are fantastic, very polite and very non-intrusive. Theres nothing worse than having a waiter hovering around you picking up your plate before your knife and fork are even down!
They were attentive, you didnt have to wait around for them, but it was undoubtedly one of the most relaxed meals I've had in ages!

The food was.....ok! Nothing absolutely fabulous, but not so bad I wouldnt go back, I just wouldnt have what I had that time!
The chutneys supplied with the poppadums were sightly lacking, only a raita, red onions, and mango chutney, nothing good and chunky, and nothing spicy!
The spiced lamb and lentil patties I had were quite odd, they tasted of cinammon! And that was quite overpowering. BF had battered mushroom which were nice, but the batter mix was definatly over-floured.

BF's Jalfrezi was excellent, and rated as one of the best he's had, even though it was so hot his nose and eyes were running at one point! My lamb Tikka Makshani was slightly disappointing, the lamb was beautifully tender, but there was only 5 pieces in a rather large dish of sauce. The Makshani is described as being with spices, tomato and cream, and it did resemble a rather thick cream of tomota soup, it also had a rather overpowering taste, which I couldnt identify, and which spoilt it slightly.

The Keema Naan and Leema Paratha were lovely, if a little greasy and very stuffed with lamb!

The Grinch is quite a popular little place to go. I first went here a while back on my Christmas night out and I had a really good time. After the Christmas do I thought Iâ¬"d go back and try it again not when it was full of works nights out and itâ¬"s a good place to start the night off in. It also serves meals which are good too and they arenâ¬"t too dear. Iâ¬"ve heard that the pizza is really good although I donâ¬"t eat it myself. Iâ¬"d recommend this place either for something to eat or a night out.The Grinch is quite a popular little place to go. When I go to Wilmslow Road Iâ¬"m not bothered as to the amount i have to pay for a curry, what I want is to eat in a place where the staff are friendly and the curry is nice. This is what the Al Nawaz is, it has a very friendly atmosphere and the curry is really really nice. What i also like is the fact that the food is really cheap and what you sometimes find is that when the food is cheap itâ¬"s not very nice, but this is not the case. There are alcoholic drinks sold on the premises too. I am not really sure how this place stays open as it is a right disgrace. This place has been open for some years probably over 10 years and at one point it used to be a really nice restaurant and take away place. However as the years went on the building didnâ¬"t change and so as it needed redecorating it was never done and this was both inside and out. I havenâ¬"t been for about 5 years because of this and it is a shame because it used to be great to come out of the pub and go straight into the restaurant. Wouldnâ¬"t recommend it now as it looks disgusting.I am not really sure how this place stays open as it is a right disgrace. This place has been open for some years probably over 10 years and at one point it used to be a really nice restaurant and take away place. However as the years went on the building didnâ¬"t change and so as it needed redecorating it was never done and this was both inside and out. I havenâ¬"t been for about 5 years because of this and it is a shame because it used to be great to come out of the pub and go straight into the restaurant. Wouldnâ¬"t recommend it now as it looks disgusting.

I have ordered a take away from here and it actually wasnâ¬"t that bad itâ¬"s just that once you have your favourite you stick with it as you know itâ¬"s nice. However the take away was ordered and it was ready reasonably quick. I had the usual starters and they were nice and I had Chicken Rogan Josh for main which was really tasty. The prices were about what you would expect to pay for an Indian and the place looked ok when I collected the food. For a while I heard really good things about this restaurant but never found the time to try it out. Friends really recommended it and so I finally gave it a try. I wasnâ¬"t that keen because it is near the student area on oxford road and just thought that it wouldnâ¬"t be as good if they were trying to keep the prices down to get people in. However I have to say that it wasnâ¬"t that great. It was reasonably priced and the staff were ok, but they didnâ¬"t like it that I had to send my food back because it was cold. I first went to this restaurant with work when we had a meeting and I was very surprised at where we were going. As it wasnâ¬"t anywhere near china town I didnâ¬"t expect it to be as good but not only was it really nice but it was actually rather cheap. The staff were very friendly and the food was really nice and tasty and came out piping hot which is always a plus. The portions were more than enough and we were all really full, the price was good too, if it not for the location this would definitely be a lot more.
