At first glance it could be mistaken for one of those old English pubs but as soon as you walk through the door you step into a candle lit world where collections of curiosities hang from every nook and cranny. The perfect place for a romantic drink for two, and despite serving a quality selection of vodkas I was disappointed that the bartender wasnâ¬"t aware of the difference between Sputnik and Below40. Vodka is vodka, rum is rum I guess and this is part of the laid back atmosphere.

Shame there is no website but like so many independent bars they rely on word of mouth and it works, the place is chockablock on Thursdays and Fridays with your usual Shoreditch trendies and local office workers.

Nothing going on here apart from the rustle of crisp packets and the occasional cheer at the footy on the big screen. Itâ¬"s a haunt for bankers for a quiet after work pint and a spot of pub grub, where it lacks any sort of atmosphere it makes up for with the friendly bar staff.

It keeps a traditional pub feel with booth shaped chesterfields, dated wallpaper, dingy lighting and a whiff of stale in the air.

With a noticeable absence of lap tops, as they have no wireless, you can opt to sit in a corner and escape in your book.

I took my girlfriend there on Saturday night and has a nice meal. HOWEVER I was so so shocked that we were rushed out onto the street.

I agree with the two previous reviews. It doesn't look great from the outside, but once you get past that and wander in, the amazing aroma of the most perfect coffee beans just hits you. It has a very cosy and relaxing atmosphere, i almost fell asleep once, it made me so relaxed! Didn't think coffee was meant to have that effect! It tastes so smooth and delicious though, a really creamy taste with even semi skimmed milk and their latte's and cappucino's are to die for! Prices are around average for a coffee shop and the service is also quick and friendly. love it!I agree with the two previous reviews. I really really like Nandos generally. I love chicken so this is the perfect place for me. Especially the grilled type. In this Aldgate branch, the food was to the same high quality that I am used to with other Nandos in London. The rice was fluffy, and had good taste, and the chicken was cooked through (I have on occasion had some not coked properly). In fact it was a bit over cooked, which happens quite often in Nandos, but is better over than under. Overall I would recommend this Nandos, the service was also pretty good, fast and friendly just what I expect.I really really like Nandos generally. This is the spiritual home of the cup cake, or so they would have you believe! I have to say that after trying them, i am now a devoted believer! There is nothing i enjoy more than praying to the altar of Crumbs and Doillies and my prayers are always answered with the most delicious tasting cakes the chef god can create. I can't tell you how delicious they are, its worth selling your soul to enjoy a lifetime of sweet tasty goodness that are for sale here! This is one of my favourite places to go, not necessarily because of the high quality of fish and chips (though they are very good), but because of the couple who run the place. I used to live around the corner and they've been there for years. They really like to interact with their customers and are part of the community feel of the place-- some of the friendlist people I've met in London.

It's a cut above the fish and chips at a kebab shop and they very clearly enjoy what they do, which makes getting my fish and chips there a delight!This is one of my favourite places to go, not necessarily because of the high quality of fish and chips (though they are very good), but because of the couple who run the place. I find the apperance of the takeaway from the outside to be quite poor.I feel they need to update their banner as it would result in more customers as the takeaway looks old from the outside now.

The name of this pub is actually the Water Poet...though many people simply call it the Poet. As my local I am obviously obliged to produce a biased review - but after hearing rave reviews from all friends I bring to the pub, I think I can honestly give an objective view.

Put simply, an excellent pub in the heart of the Spitalfields area and (perhaps) the only beer garden in all of Shoreditch. The pub is absolutely massive and goes on and on...you'd think the front room was all there was to be seen, of course there are about 4 other massive rooms, an events venue downstairs, and a massive gardne out back to while away a Sunday afternoon.

The beer selection is solid but unexciting. At least Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Flower's IPA are usually on offer (however a few additional Belgian beers would be a welcome improvement). Food is good as well - but this is the kind of pub you come to to drink and hang out with friends...

I stayed at this four star hotel on New Years Eve, as I was attending a group dinner at the Globe Restaurant on the top floor that night. (Great view, laughably inept service but friendly and apologetic.)

Wanting to book a room for later that same day, I initially rang the main reservations number for the Crown Plaza hotel group - a hub for bookings, based goodness knows where. I was told that the Shoreditch hotel was fully booked that night, but a hunch made me ring the hotel reception directly to check. Bingo! They were very surprised to hear that they were fully booked, and were pleased to offer me a room. You might want to try this trick yourself if you're booking at short notice and can't find any reduced rate deals online.

On arrival, I was a bit miffed to discover that I'd been allocated a smoking room. At my request, they moved me to a non-smoking double in a quiet location at the back of the building. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, although set up for business use which, as a New Years party-goer, I didn't need. Coming down for my coat just before midnight, I found my card-key had stopped working, so was obliged to see in the New Year out on the seventh floor rooftop terrace shivering like a jelly. Reception were later able to sort this out for me - the key, that is, not the shivering.

Breakfast the next morning, notwithstanding my hangover, was a delicious buffet affair. There was the traditional hot selection, toast, cereals, juices, and a continental selection of bread, cheeses and ham, plus croissants and pastries. I hardly knew where to start. Attracting the waiter's attention for more black coffee proved difficult though.

Note that their literature likes to suggest that the closest tube station is (the very attractive) Liverpool Street. The closest is actually (the hideously ugly) Old Street, which is worth knowing if you're lugging a suitcase.

All in all a comfortable if corporate hotel, with polite staff and a great view from the restaurant. The lack of single rooms is a travesty though - not only are none available, a room is the same price whether there's one or two of you using it. The Mariners is a pub with a local feel, it has its regular customers as well as people who pop in for a quick drink after work. It's welcoming though and the decor is clean and bright: painted wood wall panels and bare wooden benches at long tables. There are flowers on the tables and nice big windows looking onto the ever-busy Commercial Road. The staff here are really great and the owner will always have a chat at the bar about his life, your life and the lives of anyone else you don't know living locally. I like this as it gives Limehouse a sense of community that seems to be lacking in other areas of London. The food is really good, cooked from fresh ingredients and made to order in front of you - it's an open kitchen behind the bar. The prices are a bit higher than your average Wetherspoons but the quality is there (Sunday roast is excellent but Â£10, they also do very good pasta, lamb brochettes, steaks and cod, all between Â£7-Â£12). A pint of lager (peroni) is average London pub price nowadays at Â£4. The coffee and chocolate cake is great - again coffee is served in a percolator at your table, rather from out of a machine, so everything here really is the home-made real deal. The Half Moon is a branch of the popular Wetherspoons Pub Chain, situated just a stones throw from Queen Mary College, University of London.

The Half Moon consists of two bars in separate rooms, with distinct atmospheres. One is very airy with very high ceilings and lots of glass walls and the other is painted dark red and is darker. There is a patio area for smokers, furnished with heaters.

Popular with students and locals alike, it offers low priced drinks that are a rarity in London. The food is of good quality and is served quickly. The menu is large and informative and changed afew tiems a year. I recommend the Chocolate Brownies for the Chocoholics out there! The staff are welcoming and chatty, often remembering the orders of locals.

As with all Wetherspoons, the tables are sticky and the place does seem dark, however it could not be described as dirty.

Just off brick lane, the Vibe Bar is a trendy and fun place to be. A sunny afternoon is the perfect day to visit as you can enjoy the sun in its outside seating area. There are live bands performing on some days and no, there are no extra charges. The seating inside is comfortable with couches here and there, but the lighting is bit dark. I guess that adds to the overall underground appeal. The bar is so-so with regular beers on offer, nothing special.

A cool , trendy joint and will be specially liked by the young crowd. The interior is nothing special and the place is very noisy (lots of diners, bollywood music on the TV screens). The Lamb Chops and Sheekh Kebabs are favourite for starters. A special dish is Lamb Nihari, but its not on offer always. Try it if its available.

The food is reasonably priced and the service is ok given that the staff are always busy. The Ambience is not that great but the food makes up for it and you have to bring your own alcohol, which is a plus for those on budget.

This is a very nice restaurant in a very nice place! I've been here for dinner quite a few times with my girfriend (this is her favourite restaurant) - they have a brilliant selection for vegetarians. The sweet potato falafels that they serve - I have not been able to find these even on Edgware road!

And for the healthy ones amongst us, the superfood salad is also good! Its reasonably priced and service is good.This is a very nice restaurant in a very nice place! Big Chill is a very trendy bar/pub that is almost always full. Amazing cocktails are on offer and the staff are friendly/helpful.

The Crowd: Located off Brick Lane, big chill is frequented mostly by young crowd, you won't find much of the city-suits here. Most patron come here for a drink before they hit the clubs around the area.

Seating: The bar has an inside seating area and a outside covered area that allows smoking. The inside seating area is nice done with lots of corner areas for young couples to get cosy :). However, the place really gets crowded late and you can find many people standing outside. You are lucky if you get a seat!

Drinks: The bar has a decent selection of beers - Amstel, Heineken, and some german wheat beer (forgot the name sorry). But what really sets the place apart are the cocktails. Quite a few are available and they are absolutely tasty! My favourites being Rum & Ting (Wray & Nephew Rum, passionfruit syrup, fresh lime juice & Ting ) and Caipirinha. You can also order cocktails by pitcher.

Food: Never had food there. The fare seemed to be standard burgers etc. Did try a snack which had grilled Haloumi cheese, nice.

Great cheap bagels! It's pretty much the same as the one next door, though I know people who have developed a preference for one or the other. The classic salt beef bagel with mustard is always a favourite and absolutely hits the spot after a long night out on Brick Lane as it's open 24 hours a day. I'm also partial to the salami and cream cheese bagel.

Staff are properly surly and pure East End, which is great. It's great just to stop by and grab something to eat while wandering around Brick Lane for the afternoon. Either way, good bagels at a bargain!Great cheap bagels! It's pretty much the same as the one next door, though I know people who have developed a preference for one or the other. The classic salt beef bagel with mustard is always a favourite and absolutely hits the spot after a long night out on Brick Lane as it's open 24 hours a day. I'm also partial to the salami and cream cheese bagel.

Staff are properly surly and pure East End, which is great. It's great just to stop by and grab something to eat while wandering around Brick Lane for the afternoon. Either way, good bagels at a bargain!

Cafe 1001 has some good tunes to warm up the night with or to hit later on in the evening. It's quite grungy, but that adds to the atmosphere for the most part. It's quite laid back and the dancing is usually good. One piece of advice-- always keep your bag with you. Since there's no cover charge people go in just to steal bags and leave. It happened to a friend of mine while she was just a few feet away from her bag, so be careful!!

It's also a nice cafe during the day with nice baked goods and food in the always amazing atmosphere of Brick Lane. I had discovered this restaurant about 2 years ago. I think it used to be called Tayyab Kebab House, now simply known as Tayyabs. The food here is amazing I have to say. I don't say that a lot about curry houses because I seldom find a good curry. I am Asian, I know my curry :)

The restaurant is situated in an awkward place in the middle of Fieldgate Street well away from the hustle bustle of East London. Its near Whitechapel station. But despite the weird location, it is hugely popular amongst locals. I go there from as far as Wembley to enjoy the food. It gets extremely busy on the weekends and you will notice that the service deteriorates. Its is almost always crowded and noisy so if you are looking for a quite restaurant, this is not for you. I go there for the food only which basically means putting up with the crowd, the queues, the bad service and the cramped tables and obviously smelly clothes by the time you are done.
