The Station Hotel - Dirty, Unsecure, Un-friendly by smashingbirduk

Upon arrival we were starred at by a foreign sounding man at reception who clearly did nt want to be there. he shoved a piece of paper at me to fill in to check in. He then said we were in the other building so taken outside and pointed in the direction of a wooden door next to some sort of kebab house. we were warned to be careful as they accept no responsibility for any loss which set alarm bells ringing. we got inside where it was just 3 floors of corridors and went down to the basement where our room was. once inside, we found the smoke detector was stuffed with toilet roll, the last guests rubbish was left on the dressing table, the beds didnt match and the window didnt lock. the plug was clogged in the shower so kept having to turn it off to avoid completely flooding the bathroom. the tv had 1 channel which played across numbers 1-4 and 5 didnt work. outside the window was masses of rubbish, disgusting. amazingly when we came back from our night out we still had all our belongings which we really did not expect. the room was freezing though and the only bed covers were a sheet and a felt blanket so no good nights sleep. i would not recommend staying here...We stayed there last night and we're disgusted. we paid £75 for a triple room which was a case of cramming a double and single bed into a tiny room.
City Inn Westminster - Excellent, affordable boutique hotel by betageek

I was extremely impressed. The hotel was clean and stylish, and though the room was certainly on the small side of cosy, it was perfectly appointed and very comfortable. Our weekend package included bed and breakfast (extremely good), along with complimentary champagne and canapes on the first night, plus a free drink each for every day we stayed, and a few other extras such as newspapers. However, one of the main attractions was a late checkout (4pm) on Sunday which meant that we could make the most of the day. The staff were extremely helpful at all times. It's also extremely convenient for Waterloo, the Tate and other local attractions, and Pimlico and Westminster offer good Underground links. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone - it's head and shoulders above competitors in a similar price bracket. We booked a weekend package at the City Inn Westminster to spend a couple of days Christmas shopping. It's hidden just off St James's and it's not somewhere you're likely just to chance across.

There was a mix of well-heeled 30- and 40-somethings when we got there at about 8pm and it seems to be a great place to relax and have a catch up with old friends/business colleagues over a cocktail or two. I probably wouldn't recommend it if you were looking for a romantic 'first date' kind of venue though.

Part of the theatre of the place is that they prepare the martinis on a small trolley by your seats...its a nice touch. I agree with the other reviewer that their cocktails are leathal in their size and strength!

It's a gem of a bar and definitely one I'll return to.

A mate recommended Dukes Hotel for its martinis so I went their before dinner on a Friday evening with 3 friends.

The bar is cosy, quite small and with a pleasant 'old world' rather than trendy feel.
St Martin's Lane - Hotel bars are the way to go by sokratis

It started out on the poshest of locations around 6pm and ended up in the exact opposite around 3am. I'll start with the classiest of the locations St Martin's Lane Hotel Bar.

If you appreciate excellently designed spaces you'll like this one. The hotel is architected to be more of an experience rather than just a place you sleep in, which is reflected in all the function areas like the bar. Very aesthetically pleasing. Great décor and ambience and a lot of beautiful - some of them achingly so- people too. You pay for all of that though two bottles of Tiger beer = £11. Now, that is expensive!
The bar features a wide selection of wine, beer and spirits. You'll find quite a few brands, not commonly seen in your standard bar or pub. The location is also great, being moments away from Leicester Square. If you want a quick business meeting in central London, this is an excellent choice. It's also a good one to go later on as it stays open until 3am. Don't be put off by the cost and do give it a try as it's quite a unique place.

The restaurant looks pretty cool too, but better go there with a nice corporate credit card.
I had a funny Friday evening out a couple of weeks back.
