Without doubt the best gay bar in Central London. Large bar downstairs with live DJ and quiet bar upstairs with seats and tables. Upstairs is particularly nice in the Summer with the windows open and cozy in the Winter.
Good mix of men and bar staff are friendly. Great drinks promotion on a Monday from 19.00-23.00 ALL drinks are Â£1.50!! Can be packed out on a Monday night and at weekends which gives it a great atmosphere. This is the bar every other bar in Soho wishes it owned!Without doubt the best gay bar in Central London. Not a bad bar sadly more famous as the bar that a lunatic blew up killing and maiming people some years ago. Beautiful central light pays tribute.

The Dun is a strange place and probably the friendliest gay bar in Compton Street. Good jukebox, mixed crowd but somehow the place never really comes "alive" for me. Still if you are on your own or with a mixed group of friends you could do worse. Dont let appearances fool you. This looks like a nice bar - wrong. It used to be but now it is frequented by more elderly gay men and young guys looking for a sugar daddy. The toilets are full of people cruising for sex and are not too clean. Everynow and again the boiuncer appears and throws people out. On a plus side good juke box and in the summer it's nice to sit outside - but that's rare. My advice - A-V-O-I-DDont let appearances fool you. This looks like a nice bar - wrong. Despite some good scheduling - exciting dj's, new launches and innovative ideas, including the genuinely funny hip hop karaoke, this bar is small and skinny, meaning wherever you stand, you are invariably in somebody's way. It also pales in comparison with its sister bar in Nottingham. This could easily be one of London's most horrid drinking dens. Perhaps I'm getting too old? Nah, mate!

It would be unfair to portray this as a typical Ozzie bar and the bahaviour of the customers as typical of Ozzies.

This is part of a chain of 'Australian' drinking holes, most of them in busy city centres. The Covent Garden one occupies two buildings that back onto each other so that a very long, narrow bar has been created between Henrietta Street and Maiden Lane. So far so good.

The drinks on offer include an impressive range of Australian beers of all descriptions and colours. This may be comforting to a homesick Ozzie, but can be a bit sobering for any Pom who's not been down under before. The atmosphere is heavy, rowdy and very loud. One night, there was live music which (even with the doors closed) must have been audible in Trafalgar Square.

However, the downstairs bar was the real eye opener for me. The large video screens with constant sports coverage tend to be ignored - most of the people drinking down here were more interested in each other, some extremely so. The intimate boy-girl scenes and the use of a table as a prop don't make for easy reading on these review pages.
One 'lady' in the crowd was so overcome with her inner feelings that she emptied the contents of her stomach onto the floor. The reaction of the staff was surprising: they accepted this as part of working here.

Interesting, unusual, but not a good advertisement for the beautiful land down under.

I've no idea what the home of Fred and Wilma Flintstone feels like, but if looks don't deceive, Detroit gets pretty close to it. This restaurant cum bar (what is it?) is completely below ground, under the beautiful Thomas Neal's Warehouse. There is no day light, little truly fresh air, and a slightly stuffy and enclosed atmosphere. If you're with friends and take your time for a few drinks, the atmosphere probably doesn't matter too much. If you just want to relax with a friend and want to enjoy a nice drink, why would you visit a cave?

I have never plucked up the courage to stay long enough to eat and don't know what the quality of the food is like, but the wine is way too expensive and cocktails are also going to set you back heavily.

I can understand that Detroit appeals to some - the interior is stylish and has had quite a lot of money spent on it. There are also nice, little alcoves and booths where you have some privacy. Nicely located on the corner of busy Neal Street and Shelton Street, between the Seven Dials and Covent Garden tube station. This pub has no official outdoor space, but most punters seem to crowd onto the pavement. Although there is a small, square open space opposite, most drinkers just stand bang in the middle of pedestrianised Neal Street. From my own observations, this leads to annoyed and often hostile pedestrians, who simply can't weave their way through the bodies and pints. That's not clever, but wait till you go inside.

The interior of the pub is very standard and doesn't have much to commend itself for, apart from the nice, large, slightly bowed windows onto Neal Street. I don't know when this place was last refusbished, but it has always looked shabby, for as long as I have known it. No doubt it was a pub almost entirely frequented by the porters and warehousemen of the old Covent Garden fruit & veg market in the older days. they might have accepted the pub's standards, but in today's competitive environment I give this a wide berth.

The pub's exterior is still quite attractive - a nice arts & crafts facade that is visible from all the surrounding streets.

The Wetherspoons chain has become well known for offering good beer at reasonable prices, and the Lord Moon is no exception. It always has a selection of real ales on tap, differing from week to week, with the occasional beer festival thrown in to boot. There's also a very decent range of ciders and drinks to suit every taste. It's a large pub, but even so it does get busy, especially directly after work as the civil servants pour out of Whitehall. While the food isn't the best quality, it's cheap and I like this place for meeting up with a big group of friends. Every time I'm in London I make sure to head here on the night before I leave. It's absolutely perfect for de-stressing (well, after you've found a table, anyway!) and will leave you relaxed and hopefully a bit tipsy at the end of the evening. The biggest boon of this place is its fantastic wine selection - excellent value bottles and equally good vintages if you're willing to spend. They also serve sherry which is a refreshing change, too. The atmosphere is undoubtedly the second greatest attraction - it's got a candlelit, almost Victorian style essence to it, and if it weren't always very busy it would be pretty easy to stay all night in peace. Other wine bars tend to focus on young people, with music, noisy crowds, etc. but Gordon's seems to attract an older bunch which is good in my book! Freedom is a great little bar and night club with a great atmosphere. The bar isn't big and therefore can get busy and packed quite quickly. You can book and reserve areas and tables mainly for birthdays and special occasions.

The drinks menu is extensive and the cocktails are always good, especially the mojito! There are bar snacks and foods, although these are only available at certain times.

The main thing going for freedom is the atmosphere and the night club downstairs. The music is mainly funky house but it can sometimes suprise you. However the atmosphere can sometimes get a little pretenious, but this depends on who's out on the night. The only other downside is that the drinks can be a little pricey and that you can only beer in half pints. It can get a little too busy on weekends which isn't always a downside, but it can go from buzzing to migrane. Also, be warned that no matter what day of the week it is, Friendly Society shuts down at 11 sharp, probably due to some council restrictions.This is by far my favourite gay bar in London. This is a really nice (relatively) traditional English bar, friendly atmosphere and despite the other reviews here I have always found the food to be up to scratch for the price, and for a bar.

Its a great pub to go to at lunchtime in particular, and I prefer the upstairs bar then.

I would recommend it to anyone that just wants to grab a bite to eat and a pint.

For some reason this pub is usually chosen when I meet a couple of friends for beers and a chinese a couple of times a year.

I like the surroundings, it's convinient for Charing Cross & China Town and the interior is quite nicely decorated with loads of space, I don't know what sort of building it used to be but it looks like an old bank?

The downside is that the drinks are expensive, although there is a good range (particularly Hoegarden If I'm feeling rich) and the upstairs is always shut unless it's a Friday or Saturday.

The upstairs bar has a central gallery and you can sit round the outside and look down onto the ground floor. I don't understand why they don't let you sit there even if the upstairs bar is shut. You can always get served downstairs and take your drinks up?

Never eaten there and to be honest I probably wouldn't. The food is a bit pricey and looks much the same as Wetherspoons, which is a lot cheaper.

As previously mentioned this pub is unusual in that it is split in two on either side of the road. I've been told by a friend that it's the only pub in London like this.

The best way to get there from Charing Cross is to go down Villiers Street towards embankment and turn right under the tunnel. It's at the end up some steps.

Although this is normally a fairly quiet and small pub it has loads of character and an excellent selection of beer and wine. There is normally somewhere to sit and most of the seating is fairly private.

I've found that it's a good place to start the evening before going out to eat etc.

This place certainly stands out from the Old Compton campness and brings a much-needed relaxed sophistication to the area. I popped in last Sunday with a friend to have the infamous 'one last drink' before we headed home and to our surprise, a DJ was pumping some nice house tunes (and not the cheesy big vocal church house) and the crowd was jamming.

People were smiling, grooving in their chairs but not making an ass of themselves which is rare as we all know in London it's either one or the other.

I decided to pay a visit again last night with my flatmate after we left the bar and had a case of the booze munchies. The kitchen was open well past 11 on a Tuesday night, a weeknight rarity indeed, and everything was impeccable. Apart from stunning, our waitor was very friendly and quick and our food was just as great. We shared steamed mussels in a creamy white wine sauce which were served in a cast-iron dutch oven and were literally the size of my fist.

The recommended Voigner was just as great and so were our side dishes, hand-cut chips included. Bill came to just over Â£30 so bargain all around! Go right to the bottom of this labyrinth of a pub and you find an almost empty vaults bar â¬ the is a great wine list, and nothing is overpriced. There is also a good amount of beer on tap. This place is a haven in central London if you want to escape chains, crowds, hustle and bustle. The place is great for the romantic, and the small groups. Down stairs is usually a quiet and secluded place to be. The staff are always friendly. But beware, on rainy days the vaults occasionally flood! We were going for a pub meal near Trafalgar Square but the First pub we tried didnâ¬"t serve food in the weekends, so we went for the next one and this worked out to be the best thing that could happen to the 4 of us whilst staying in London for a long weekend!
We found a very warm and welcome looking pub, with excellent and very reasonable priced food and drinks, especially the food was from outstanding quality. Last but not least we want to thank the very friendly and helpful staff. And a special thanks to the manager Andrew for his support on pointing out â¬SPlaces of interest, other than the common published onesâ¬

First of, I am not a big fan of bar chains (for reasons most people are not) but this specific Vodka Rev Bar is a good place to go!

You might actually miss it if you don't know its there as its nestled on a side street which looks like a glorified back ally but once found on a Friday night you can have a lot of fun with a group of friends or work chums.

And that is what you are likely to find on a Friday night in there, a lot of people who work in Soho going for that "thank god its friday" "ONE" drink and end up snogging someone they shound not have 4 hours later (not talking about myself....)

The Vodka cocktail pitchers are a must in my opinion and there are some great ones to choose from my fav being the "absolute chambles" which is basically vodka, sparkling white wine and redbull :-)

The music is loud enough to be enjoyed but not too loud
you need to shout in the person next to yous ear and It seems quite an easy place to strike up a conversation (chat up) and have a good time.

It can be a pain in the bum to get served which is its only real major downside unless you count shutting at 11pm a bad thing.
