This is one of my favorite restaurants. Living in NH for a while this restaurant stands for everything I like about the area: friendly people, cultural and social diversity, unpretensciousness, and homely chilled-out surroundings. We dined at Alounak last Friday evening. The traditional Iranian kebabs and the bread were very good, and we also enjoyed two of the day's special dishes (Gormeh Sabzee and Bamyeh), which are rotated on a daily basis.

There were three waitresses circling the tables, so the service was attentive, friendly and prompt.

By the time we were ready to leave there was a queue at the door (always a good indication), so I would recommend arriving early on a Friday night.

We arrived on Portabello Road @ 8:30 and it was already packed with people. If you like antiques and quirky little shops plan on spending 3+ hours minimum. My wife has a small attention span for this type of shopping, so that was our limit. If I had more time and another Saturday I'd visit again. Antiques that you don't see in anywhere else. They seemed to have great deals on antique flat/silver ware. This is a market not to be missed. *you pass George Orwell's house(on the right from the tube, look for the blue marker) as you enter the Market area.

I went here with my partner after winning a dinner voucher with work.
I was definitely not disappointed.
We sat downstairs, the walk to our table was impressive, and we went down a spiral staircase below the ground. The stairs were lit up by candles which added to the atmosphere! Itâ¬"s almost as if youâ¬"re in caves.
Our waiter served about 4 tables altogether so that felt quite personal, the menu had a lot of choice to suit a variety of tastes. Meat, fish, veggies.
Overall I was very impressed with this restaurant, the food is brilliantly cooked, the wines are very palatable and the dÃ©cor and atmosphere adds to the experience.
I would definitely come back here!

A visit to Whiteleyâ¬"s is often melancholic and unexciting. Thank goodness for Le Cafe Anglais, Food Inc and maybe just, Muji; propping this grande dame of a department store alive.

First and foremost the service was sweet and assuring. The dining room was superb, bright and utterly non stuffy. When booking, ask for a window table, you'll thank me for this.

The Hors d'Åuvres is probably one of the reasons of the pilgrimage. The Chicken Livers Agro Dolce was a class act, The delicious signature Rabbit Rillettes was only let down by a badly chipped crockery it was served in. The two other tasters included courgette fritters and smoked mackeral pate with soft boild egg. The latter was too salty.

My main course of Rib of Beef with Bubble and Squeak was cooked to perfection and melt in the mouth. However my dining companion's Vitello Tonnato (chilled veal in tuna sauce) was sedate and tasteless except for some anchovies sitting on the veal slices. Veal for me is overrated, I find it bland. In fact in today's Sunday Times John Cleese told Michael Winner ''Veal should be banned, not because the process is so painful to the animals, but because the result is so boring.'' Right on, methinks.

I have to disagree with Nick on the prices being reasonable... The cost of the tacos were insane. Great location and quaint place [what is that pole in the floor downstairs for??? too much tequila :)] but for more of a real mexican fare head to Taqueria close by or to Mestizo. Just happened upon the Hummingbird Bakery one afternoon and couldn't resist having a closer look. I had heard about it before - reading horror stories about horrendous queues at the South Kensington branch, and so-so cupcakes.

Was thinking about sampling some cupcakes there with a cuppa, but the shop was not an inviting place to linger, so decided to buy a couple of cupcakes to take home instead.

I was pleasantly surprised that the price per cupcake was cheaper than ones I usually buy, but on closer inspection realised that these Hummingbird cupcakes were smaller. I was disappointed by the range of flavours - basically vanilla or chocolate cake with a few different icing options. Oh well, I had to try some.

Ended up buying a chocolate cupcake with green icing and sprinkles, and a vanilla cupcake with meringue icing. The cake part was ok, but nothing memorable. The icing on both was way too sweet. So I went to the Lonsdale for a date earlier this week. It was such a shame it was on a Monday night because I really wanted to sample more of the wonderful cocktails at this bar! I started off with an elderflower martini and then proceeded onto a lychee cocktail and a couple of shots.
As well as superb cocktails, the food is excellent - the burger definitely gets my vote. I also got to see Sav, the deceptionist, who I believe usually works there on a Wednesday. Even if the drinks and food weren't excellent, I'd certainly go just to see him! I'd give this a 5/5... it's only a shame I couldn't say the same for my date! I've been to the Carluccio's on St.John's Wood High Street and was very impressed, so I expected the same from their Westbourne Grove branch. I was sadly disappointed by their customer service. They are clearly understaffed for busy times at lunch, which is when we went. We had to wait a very long time to get someone to notice us to take our order (about 20 minutes), and then another wait for the bill. The special menu for the day looked interesting but I wouldn't suggest experimenting with it if you aren't sure what it will turn out as. My dish was essentially cheese wrapped in bacon - about 6 pieces - and to be honest, it could have been an excellent starter if it was a few pieces less, but as a main course I felt it lacked something. My husband had the risotto which was also on the special menu. It tasted decent but was nothing exemplary for Italian cuisine.

I would strongly suggest sticking to the main menu, which is what I did the last time. Customer service-wise, highly lacking. I have been here a few times to meet friends for a few pints, they have a good range of beers on tap and usually a fun lively crowd.

The food here is great and not just your standard pub grub.

After a visit to the very interesting Museum of Brands, Packaging & Advertising, a coffee was in order and the first place we came across was the inviting looking Gail's on Portobello Road.

The four of us took a while to decide what we wanted to eat with our coffee - everything looked great. All were very good, apart from the maple cake which tasted like it had been sitting around for a couple of days. If you read my reviews in the past you would know that I lived in Brazil for four years, so I went to the place last night with high expectations.
I was a little dissapointed, as they didnt have my favourite meat, which all "TOP NOTCH" Rodizio's have in Brazil, which is Fillet Mignon, This is normally served with a sauce, or just as it comes. It also didnt have the real Brazilian Linquica sausage, or Alcatra, or Fillet Argentine for that matter. Most dissapointingly was the fact they didnt have Palmito (Palm Hearts), on the salad bar.

If you are ever lucky enough to go to Rio, visit Mario's, or in Curitiba Napolitana, Danis, or Batel Grill.
The salads buffets are bigger, the meat choice is so much more, Mario's even has wild boar, on the rounds.

Considering I paid Â£101 for two, which consisted of a bottle of wine (Â£30) Chauteau Neuf de Pape, 2 x barbeques, and 2 x Mouse for desert, bottle of water, and 1 x bottle of Brahma. Then this is quite expensive for the quality of what you actually get.

On the positive side, the steak was good, especially the Picanha, the salad they did have was very good. And the service was excellent. Two of us went for dinner on a Saturday... I loved the menus on a chalk board and the food was indeed quite good and it reminded me of ... well a "Notting Hill-ized" french Bistro. The one "issue" was when they took the four seats to our left in the central communal table and decided to squeeze in six people because someone's friend decided to bring their (very talkative and loud) friend... Almost ruined a good evening... a bottle of decent read saved it!Two of us went for dinner on a Saturday... Great curry.
Everything well cooked, well spiced. Everything tasted fresh with fantastic aromas.
It's not reinventing the wheel but is doing what a curry house is supposed to do - serving unpretentious food that tantalises the taste buds, unlike so many other places that seem to proliferate with bought in sauces, synthetic colours and cooking by numbers.

Nothing more to say.Great curry.

Nestled in between the noisepots of Notting Hill and Queensway, in the posh residential bits off the main roads, The Chepstow is an oasis of nice in a desert of not-so-nice. Quiet, relaxed and classy, with friendly service and a neighbourly atmosphere, it's a little gem that's great for a post-work chat or a Sunday hangover recuperation (the latter I can vouch for from painful personal experience). Tasty food, nice dÃ©cor, music that doesn't drown out your conversation and staff who know their drink-making - it's what you want, frankly.

But, you know, don't tell too many people about it. The food was good not amazing as was the dining room. I cannot decide if I've just eaten in too many better places than this or is it just not that good.

The room was nice, not too stuffy and the staff were very friendly, even if the waiter had very bad breath.

The food started very well with taramaslata on crisp potato and deepfried quail egg with truffle mayonnaise. The loin of tuna wrapped in basil was very good, light but tasty. The gateau opera at the end was also very accomplished, my kind of dessert. Most of the fod in between was not as good. Each dish missing the mark just a little. The shellfish tortellini with pumklin and ginger should have had just a little less ginger. The venison was a little large.

My main critism of the Ledbury is the speed at which we were made to eat our meal. A six course menu must be eaten over some time or the whole experience is ruined. This is what happened to us. My main critism of the Ledbury is the speed at which we were made to eat our meal. A six course menu must be eaten over some time or the whole experience is ruined. This is what happened to us. Good cooking sometimes is just not enough.
