Rating: 4.00I've been eating Sunday lunch here ever since I moved into the area 12 months ago.

There is a carvery on offer, but not of the 1980's type you would expect; with tired and overcooked meat and veg. The Pig and Whistle has locally sourced, well cooked joints of meat, a good selection of seasonal vegetables and crisp roast potatoes.

The meal is around Â£10 for a good portion of meat and as much of the vegetables as you think you can eat.

My only negative comment is that the place lacks a little atmosphere and I wouldn't come here for drinks in the evening.I've been eating Sunday lunch here ever since I moved into the area 12 months ago.

If you want a genuine East End night out then you could do worse than the Cock Tavern. It is a typical East End pub with very pretty barmaids. Most of them are eastern European or Russian but they are very friendly, as is the Landlord, Tommy. It is mostly full of regulars.
They have big screens for sports matches etc, but the actual pub building is very old and has a traditional feel to it. They serve great value Sunday lunches and good bar snacks. Priya is always busy but this is because it serves the best spicy and tasty food in London in my opinion. They are very child friendly, and provide high chairs and there is also room to pull a pram right up to the table if you want to. The food is varied and always freshly cooked. They serve draught and bottled beer plus wine and spirits. There is another level upstairs so you can usually get a table even at the busiest times. There are many Indian and curry restaurants around but very few serve genuine Sri Lankan food and it really is a whole different taste experience. Have eaten here many a time as I love their burgers and I do not live near one at home. You know what to expect when you walk in and are not disappointed the food is always freshly cooked and as it is a busy branch, nothing sits around for more than a min or so and on busy times you sometimes have to wait while they cook your order but as that generally means really hot chips, who is complaining? The Nags Head is in Walthamstow Village, not far from the tube station. For those hip trendy 30 somethings, this is the place to be! When we visited we sat out the front in the lovely garden which has heaters and they have draped fairy lights around the place. The owners are Flossie and Roger, and the pub itself has a good selection of ales and fruit Belgian beers, as well as wine by the glass.
They have wine tasting evenings once a month, but book up fast as they get busy!
The pub does not serve food but it does do a really good range of bar snacks including several different flavours of olives.
Plenty of tables with differently designed cloths on, plus big leather sofas and squashy poufs add to the relaxed atmosphere. They also have some amazing Jazz musicians there on a Sunday afternoon which is very popular.

Friendly and intimate local curry house. Great modern design - somehow they've made a small room seem much bigger. Big portions too! We have been here a few times now and have enjoyed our visits. The food is reliable - interesting enough for you to return - and the service is friendly (if sometimes, esp. on Saturday evenings, overstretched). Weekend lunchtimes are quieter.

We have enjoyed some lovely, beautifully cooked steaks and fish here - not too dry, moist inside with a good seasoned outside. The beetroot and mushroom salad starter is very nice indeed - a sweet but tangy dressing really brings out the earthiness. Soups are generally good and sometimes even reach the heights of shining tasty things.

Wines here are well chosen and suit the general standard. The cheese plate is hilarious though. I have never seen so many haphazardly arranged crackers. It was a veritable mountain. A nice airy room and capable service, this very simple cooking style relies on good ingredients. Think this restaurant is quite nice. My first meal in the Walthamstow area and was pleasantly surprised.
