Looking at it the first time I went I've got to admit I was a little scared, but once inside the people were friendly and quick to serve me, the prices are great, the musics lots of fun. Thursday nights are pretty much indie nights at moonlighting, where I was given a horrifically dirty look for suggesting they play basshunter when drunk. However the drinks are very cheap and if you like that sort of music then the music is very good. There is unusual seating available with comfy sort of sofas around certain corners and in alcoves which are great for congregating but the dacefloor is too small. The dark mirrored slightly grotty interior suits this night perfectly and gives the club a great atmosphere. This is slightly tainted by the fact that they confiscate chewing gum and wont let you sit on the little tables which reminds you that this is actually a real club in its own right "moonlighting" which is a touch more r n b than candy box. Been a couple of times now, and atmosphere is great, as are the (quite expensive) cocktails. Two for one on a selection early evening. I've been to Salsa! many times for dancing. It can get very hot and sweaty, but then most salsa venues do. This private member's club has revolutionized the way I do business. As I am based out of London, it is perfect for meeting clients and stopping off between meetings. With the Club PA's, amazing food, friendly service and great meeting rooms I feel like I am at my office away from my office. Just a somewhat grotty '1950's style' Gaumont- like cinema showing rather fuzzy gay porn. All the action takes place in the back two rows, mostly involving rather elderly customers. The young ones sit in the front, do nothing and look bored. I've had fun there, but it's worth a fiver at most- not the £12 demanded. When you need a place to relax with friends and forget the world with a bottle of good wine in front of a roaring fire and candlelight then Blacks comes up trumps.

Samuel Johnson and Joshua Reynolds set up a dining club in this cavernous 3 storey townhouse in 1764 and it appears that little has changed since. The decor is evocative of those heady days without being anachronistic, with simple wooden tables, wood panelled walls and a crackling open fire in most rooms. There is a miscellany of soft furnishings and seating to lounge about on and the overall feeling is of a louche cosyness as an assorted clientele rub along nicely in a spirit of bonhomie.

It was commented on that people go to Black's to be NOT seen rather than the other private London clubs such as Whites or The Groucho that are the refuge of X Factor and D-List ephemera. Given that an A-List film actor was on the table next to us and remained wonderfully anonymous it certainly gives that creedence.

There is well chosen and not badly priced wine list - we demolished several bottles of a lovely fruity, spicy Gigondas at our last visit and the food is good if unspectacular.

Te late Ronnie Scott was famous for his joke routine that did not change much for 40 years as well as being the greatest British Jazz Saxophonist of his generation.

One of his jokes was to look at a member of the audience who was eating and say youre not going to eat that are you ?

Sally Greene has done nothing to improve the food that remains very poor.

This is still the best Jazz Club in Britain and where the top international stars tend to play and despite more people being squeezed in under the new owners the atmosphereand ambiance are great !

I haven't quite decided what the appeal is for a place like Soho House. For me, it's about seeing and being seen, being able to tell your friends and family that you've been somewhere cool and 'exclusive' and generally just feeling very fabulous and girl-about-town. I was taken to Soho House by a member for a business breakfast. It was desperately exciting not least because bumping into a very famous and very hungover celeb was a genuine possibility.

I arrived having no clue where the entrance was and once located, didn't quite know where to go once inside. It has that air about it that screams, "darling, if you have to ask where the toilets are, you don't belong". Once inside, the dark wood panelling and large leather armchairs were a welcome relief from the grey, drizzly london day.

The staff are as pretentious as the location (abrupt and nonchalent but at the same time discreetly attentive) but the food was tremendous. I was dying to have the eggs benedict but my manners prevailed once i remembered that it really is quite rude and most uncool to order the most expensive thing on the menu. The sausage sandwich was flavourful and you could tell that they buy posh sausages, probably from a farmers market and definitely not from the 2for1 counter at Tesco. Likewise for the bread. The tea came loose, again, another small touch which felt very decadent - and the juices were freshly squeezed.

All in all, a very satisfying place to spend a couple of hours escaping a very wet morning. Yes, it's overpriced and you have to be a member or be with a member just to get in but surely that's all part of the appeal, non?! This is a very nice venue for a gig as it is quite big but still intimate with an upstairs gallery and bar. I was quite surprised by the cost of the drinks but then i am always a optimist when it comes to this. I've also been to this club on a Friday- which is Rock night and Saturday- which is a more indie and alternative and had an enjoyable night.
The music was good on both nights although rock night did seem to attract a lot of more 'darker' people with black being the main colour of clothing but nothing too shocking.
Apart from the usual high prices of the bar, i found the Mean Fiddler to be a nice place to go- and i would definitely go and see your favourite band there if you get the chance!!!!!!This is a very nice venue for a gig as it is quite big but still intimate with an upstairs gallery and bar. Oh the borderline! This brings back memories of bands from long ago, showing my age now! This is a gig venue so all the extras (ha ha) of food or selection of ales isnâ¬"t what you come here for. I may be wrong but I seem to remember the borderline moved locations (??) I think to this one (still a long time ago) as it is bigger. It has history and there are photos of all the bands that have been here and I seem to remember seeing bands here on the way up, AND again on the way back down again! Donâ¬"t come to eat here itâ¬"s the tacky snack burger bar type of food. The sound is good at the venue though so itâ¬"s a must to see some bands here.Oh the borderline! This was the scene of my 18th birthday clubbing. It was a really good night - cheap drinks, good music (this particular night was retro pop) and a good atmosphere. The bouncers were friendly and wished me a happy birthday! The decor was a bit rundown so if you want a nice swish night out then metro is certainly not for you. It's not a real dress up place or anything but if you're just looking for a night out with music, good prices and mates it's perfect. My boyfriend and his friends love going to metro as they often play a good amount of rock and punk you don't get in a lot of places. It's well located too, at the tottenham court road end of Oxfor Street. It's easy to find and there's a good kebab shop nearby! I can also say it's probably not horrendously loud as I managed to fall asleep next to one of the big speakers!This was the scene of my 18th birthday clubbing. The sister venue to the Astoria nexdoor which played host to legendary club nights such as Frong and G-A-Y for years, Astoria 2 is smaller but very similar. Downstairs a stage area and large dance floor with a small bar and upstairs a comparitively larger bar in a much smaller space. Having only been on a saturday night i know only what they play at Push. Indie hits mixed with electro and ironically played hip hop actually makes good music to dance to. The average age of the club is about 21 but ranges from 18 up wards. they are strict on id but if you are a student you normally get in for free and a whiskey and coke is very cheap at Â£1.50. Live music is often played but "celebrity" djs are usually the norm, the inverted commas refer to the fact that "celebrity" here means people from virtually unknown bands or better known ones like bloc party being the more famous. If you liked visiting wild-west theme parks when you were a kid then this is for you. The 'london street' feels cheap and not classy at all - no matter what the designers will have you believe. It is a small venue that feels unfinished and sparse, compared to the decadent stylishness the descriptions suggest.

Coming here was a bit more traumatic than I had ever expected. Don't get me wrong, I occasionally go clubbing in GAY Astoria and it's fine, I have plenty of fun but I've never been made to feel so insignificant in my life! We were all dancing in a group drinking but whenever anyone male went past, they barged into one of us without apologising. It was almost as if we were taking up precious space that might otherwise be occupied with a hot man...lol.
