I haven't quite decided what the appeal is for a place like Soho House. For me, it's about seeing and being seen, being able to tell your friends and family that you've been somewhere cool and 'exclusive' and generally just feeling very fabulous and girl-about-town. I was taken to Soho House by a member for a business breakfast. It was desperately exciting not least because bumping into a very famous and very hungover celeb was a genuine possibility.

I arrived having no clue where the entrance was and once located, didn't quite know where to go once inside. It has that air about it that screams, "darling, if you have to ask where the toilets are, you don't belong". Once inside, the dark wood panelling and large leather armchairs were a welcome relief from the grey, drizzly london day.

The staff are as pretentious as the location (abrupt and nonchalent but at the same time discreetly attentive) but the food was tremendous. I was dying to have the eggs benedict but my manners prevailed once i remembered that it really is quite rude and most uncool to order the most expensive thing on the menu. The sausage sandwich was flavourful and you could tell that they buy posh sausages, probably from a farmers market and definitely not from the 2for1 counter at Tesco. Likewise for the bread. The tea came loose, again, another small touch which felt very decadent - and the juices were freshly squeezed.

All in all, a very satisfying place to spend a couple of hours escaping a very wet morning. ok, they dont serve jack daniels but then if you only have a tenner in your pocket and you wanna get drunk this is the only place in central london.

the entry is 6 pounds. however if you go on their website (www.candy-box.co.uk) you can print off the voucher and get cheaper entry

the only thing to bear in mind is the age group in this club. 16-22!

This is a very nice venue for a gig as it is quite big but still intimate with an upstairs gallery and bar. I was quite surprised by the cost of the drinks but then i am always a optimist when it comes to this. I've also been to this club on a Friday- which is Rock night and Saturday- which is a more indie and alternative and had an enjoyable night.
The music was good on both nights although rock night did seem to attract a lot of more 'darker' people with black being the main colour of clothing but nothing too shocking.
Apart from the usual high prices of the bar, i found the Mean Fiddler to be a nice place to go- and i would definitely go and see your favourite band there if you get the chance!!!!!!This is a very nice venue for a gig as it is quite big but still intimate with an upstairs gallery and bar. Oh the borderline! This brings back memories of bands from long ago, showing my age now! This is a gig venue so all the extras (ha ha) of food or selection of ales isnâ¬"t what you come here for. I may be wrong but I seem to remember the borderline moved locations (??) I think to this one (still a long time ago) as it is bigger. It has history and there are photos of all the bands that have been here and I seem to remember seeing bands here on the way up, AND again on the way back down again! Donâ¬"t come to eat here itâ¬"s the tacky snack burger bar type of food. The sound is good at the venue though so itâ¬"s a must to see some bands here.Oh the borderline! Well i have only ever been to this club on a Wednesday and Thursday so can only give it half a review but here goes.
Wednesday nights at Moonlighting are known as 'Cheapskates', which is a popular student night out. It is always filled every week which is no surprise seen as most single spirits and mixers are 80p each and a bottle of beer Â£1. Any other spirits are around Â£1 i think or maybe more and if you want anything as sophisticated as wine or a soft drink then i think its pretty expensive.
Generally, the music is Indie and alternative with a reasonable dance floor and quite a lot of seating but you have to be quick as the seats get filled pretty quickly.
It can take a long time to get served at the bar in cramped conditions and the 80p spirits dont exactly taste the best but thats not what the point of them are.
Thursdays is known as Candybox and is similar but the prices of the drinks go up buy 20p :0O There is often less people on Thursdays and the music is less Indie and more RnB. Being less people, the bar is less crowded and there is more space to sit which can make for a better night out.
One thing i must warn you about is the tables around the seating areas. They are conveniently at "foot-stool" height but i wouldnt put your feet up if you can resist or you will immediately be told off by the security and repeat offenders will be kicked out!!!
If your looking for a typical studenty night out with insanely cheap drinks of dubious quality in central London, this is your place!
( I'll just add that i've generally always had a good night out here!)

This was the scene of my 18th birthday clubbing. It was a really good night - cheap drinks, good music (this particular night was retro pop) and a good atmosphere. The bouncers were friendly and wished me a happy birthday! The decor was a bit rundown so if you want a nice swish night out then metro is certainly not for you. It's not a real dress up place or anything but if you're just looking for a night out with music, good prices and mates it's perfect. My boyfriend and his friends love going to metro as they often play a good amount of rock and punk you don't get in a lot of places. It's well located too, at the tottenham court road end of Oxfor Street. It's easy to find and there's a good kebab shop nearby! I can also say it's probably not horrendously loud as I managed to fall asleep next to one of the big speakers!This was the scene of my 18th birthday clubbing. When I was a teenager up in Scotland far too many years ago, I used to read adverts in Sounds and the NME for Punk bands like the clash and Pistols appearing at the 100 Club and would dream of being able to attend these gigs.

Well 30 years on the 100 Club is alive and well and still putting on excellent shows.

I managed to catch the Blockheads there recently, and apart from the Pinstriped city boys trying their best to be one of the crowd with mockney accents, it was a brilliant night.

Its in a basement, its crowded, the bars are too busy, it gets very hot, but the atmosphere is electric and the acoustics ring!

The club has a great system where you can order tickets for gigs online, pay by paypal, then you give your paypal name at the door and your let in....tremendous. The tickets were very cheap considering the rip-off prices you pay at some venues.

Give it a try....its a different and enjoyable night out and they have some great acts. Crobar! If the place was reduced to rubble and all that remained was the jukebox I'd still rather sit there than anywhere else in town. CHEAP and EVIL cocktails, spirits splashed everywhere and sometimes in your glass, tattoos, hot girls and LOUD music. Come on!

Plus the walls are covered in 2000AD meaning at the end of the night when you are under a table you have plenty to read.Crobar! The sister venue to the Astoria nexdoor which played host to legendary club nights such as Frong and G-A-Y for years, Astoria 2 is smaller but very similar. Downstairs a stage area and large dance floor with a small bar and upstairs a comparitively larger bar in a much smaller space. Having only been on a saturday night i know only what they play at Push. Indie hits mixed with electro and ironically played hip hop actually makes good music to dance to. The average age of the club is about 21 but ranges from 18 up wards. they are strict on id but if you are a student you normally get in for free and a whiskey and coke is very cheap at Â£1.50. Live music is often played but "celebrity" djs are usually the norm, the inverted commas refer to the fact that "celebrity" here means people from virtually unknown bands or better known ones like bloc party being the more famous. If you liked visiting wild-west theme parks when you were a kid then this is for you. The 'london street' feels cheap and not classy at all - no matter what the designers will have you believe. It is a small venue that feels unfinished and sparse, compared to the decadent stylishness the descriptions suggest.

Coming here was a bit more traumatic than I had ever expected. Don't get me wrong, I occasionally go clubbing in GAY Astoria and it's fine, I have plenty of fun but I've never been made to feel so insignificant in my life! We were all dancing in a group drinking but whenever anyone male went past, they barged into one of us without apologising. It was almost as if we were taking up precious space that might otherwise be occupied with a hot man...lol. Every night is very different and caters for a very different crowds each time.. Check whats on before you go. Cheap concessions can be found in most of the bars in Soho.. Always good Dj's.. I went a couple of weeks ago with my boyfriend and it was the first jazz club I've been to in London. I've been to jazz clubs in New York and Toronto so I was surprised when I walked in. Decent cover charge of 5 pounds, but the place is REALLY, REALLY small. The drinks list isn't very good nor is their wine list, it's not somewhere you go to enjoy a really good glass of wine, but I really enjoyed the act they had on that night. Unfortunately I can't remember their name, but it was a female lead singer with a 5 piece band.

Our waiter was lovely; we walked in and had to be seated in the front of the club (it's sectioned off into 2 rooms, the entrance and the back where the mini stage is) where we couldn't see anything, but our lovely waiter took us to the back and made a little space for us in an alcove to the right of the stage where the bands normally store spare equipment. It was cozy and we had a really good view of the band. The venue itself is a bit strange: the front room reminds me a bit of an American-style bar what with the neon beer signs, and the back room where the bands perform reminds me of an old-school Italian-American restaurant.

It's an extremely small venue but well worth it; check your pretensions at the door, this is not a fancy, "swish" hot spot, but I quite liked it and would definitely go there again. Word to the wise from our waiter - under no circumstances order something from the kitchen as apparently the food is terrible. But if you're looking for a drink after having dinner in the area, it's definitely worth it - and make reservations if you plan on going with more than 1 other person, or else you won't find anywhere to sit!I went a couple of weeks ago with my boyfriend and it was the first jazz club I've been to in London. I've been to jazz clubs in New York and Toronto so I was surprised when I walked in. Decent cover charge of 5 pounds, but the place is REALLY, REALLY small. The drinks list isn't very good nor is their wine list, it's not somewhere you go to enjoy a really good glass of wine, but I really enjoyed the act they had on that night. Unfortunately I can't remember their name, but it was a female lead singer with a 5 piece band.

Our waiter was lovely; we walked in and had to be seated in the front of the club (it's sectioned off into 2 rooms, the entrance and the back where the mini stage is) where we couldn't see anything, but our lovely waiter took us to the back and made a little space for us in an alcove to the right of the stage where the bands normally store spare equipment. It was cozy and we had a really good view of the band. The venue itself is a bit strange: the front room reminds me a bit of an American-style bar what with the neon beer signs, and the back room where the bands perform reminds me of an old-school Italian-American restaurant.

It's an extremely small venue but well worth it; check your pretensions at the door, this is not a fancy, "swish" hot spot, but I quite liked it and would definitely go there again. Word to the wise from our waiter - under no circumstances order something from the kitchen as apparently the food is terrible.
