Without doubt the best gay bar in Central London. Large bar downstairs with live DJ and quiet bar upstairs with seats and tables. Upstairs is particularly nice in the Summer with the windows open and cozy in the Winter.
Good mix of men and bar staff are friendly. Great drinks promotion on a Monday from 19.00-23.00 ALL drinks are Â£1.50!! Can be packed out on a Monday night and at weekends which gives it a great atmosphere. This is the bar every other bar in Soho wishes it owned!Without doubt the best gay bar in Central London. Not a bad bar sadly more famous as the bar that a lunatic blew up killing and maiming people some years ago. Beautiful central light pays tribute.

The Dun is a strange place and probably the friendliest gay bar in Compton Street. Good jukebox, mixed crowd but somehow the place never really comes "alive" for me. Still if you are on your own or with a mixed group of friends you could do worse. Dont let appearances fool you. This looks like a nice bar - wrong. It used to be but now it is frequented by more elderly gay men and young guys looking for a sugar daddy. The toilets are full of people cruising for sex and are not too clean. Everynow and again the boiuncer appears and throws people out. On a plus side good juke box and in the summer it's nice to sit outside - but that's rare. My advice - A-V-O-I-DDont let appearances fool you. This looks like a nice bar - wrong. I've no idea what the home of Fred and Wilma Flintstone feels like, but if looks don't deceive, Detroit gets pretty close to it. This restaurant cum bar (what is it?) is completely below ground, under the beautiful Thomas Neal's Warehouse. There is no day light, little truly fresh air, and a slightly stuffy and enclosed atmosphere. If you're with friends and take your time for a few drinks, the atmosphere probably doesn't matter too much. If you just want to relax with a friend and want to enjoy a nice drink, why would you visit a cave?

I have never plucked up the courage to stay long enough to eat and don't know what the quality of the food is like, but the wine is way too expensive and cocktails are also going to set you back heavily.

I can understand that Detroit appeals to some - the interior is stylish and has had quite a lot of money spent on it. There are also nice, little alcoves and booths where you have some privacy. Overall, the place is too pretentious and modern - it just feels and looks out of place in this grand building and I just don't like being in a cave for dinner!

Nicely located on the corner of busy Neal Street and Shelton Street, between the Seven Dials and Covent Garden tube station. This pub has no official outdoor space, but most punters seem to crowd onto the pavement. Although there is a small, square open space opposite, most drinkers just stand bang in the middle of pedestrianised Neal Street. From my own observations, this leads to annoyed and often hostile pedestrians, who simply can't weave their way through the bodies and pints. That's not clever, but wait till you go inside.

The interior of the pub is very standard and doesn't have much to commend itself for, apart from the nice, large, slightly bowed windows onto Neal Street. I don't know when this place was last refusbished, but it has always looked shabby, for as long as I have known it. No doubt it was a pub almost entirely frequented by the porters and warehousemen of the old Covent Garden fruit & veg market in the older days. they might have accepted the pub's standards, but in today's competitive environment I give this a wide berth.

The pub's exterior is still quite attractive - a nice arts & crafts facade that is visible from all the surrounding streets.

A proper old pub that looks like it hasn't changed in 100 years - just how we like them. There is a traditional bar island surrounded by 3 or 4 small rooms and snugs, and a couple of old fireplaces for the winter. Being Sam Smiths, the beer is very cheap and attracts a friendly, ecclectic crowd. The only thing I would avoid is the food. Freedom is a great little bar and night club with a great atmosphere. The bar isn't big and therefore can get busy and packed quite quickly. You can book and reserve areas and tables mainly for birthdays and special occasions.

The drinks menu is extensive and the cocktails are always good, especially the mojito! There are bar snacks and foods, although these are only available at certain times.

The main thing going for freedom is the atmosphere and the night club downstairs. The music is mainly funky house but it can sometimes suprise you. However the atmosphere can sometimes get a little pretenious, but this depends on who's out on the night. The only other downside is that the drinks can be a little pricey and that you can only beer in half pints. It can get a little too busy on weekends which isn't always a downside, but it can go from buzzing to migrane. Also, be warned that no matter what day of the week it is, Friendly Society shuts down at 11 sharp, probably due to some council restrictions.This is by far my favourite gay bar in London. The White Hart is one of the oldest licensed pub in London, and its a pretty lively pub with plenty of space for all. The range of drinks is excellent with the bar staff to match. The friendly yet lively atmosphere provides an excellent place to drink in late afternoons through to close. Food is available and is well worth a look at. It's a small but adequate menu and it is very tasty.

The White hart is quite a threatre pub, and late in the evenings it can get busy but this certainly adds to the atmosphere. There are larger tables and a large back area so you can easily book these for party and private functions. This place certainly stands out from the Old Compton campness and brings a much-needed relaxed sophistication to the area. I popped in last Sunday with a friend to have the infamous 'one last drink' before we headed home and to our surprise, a DJ was pumping some nice house tunes (and not the cheesy big vocal church house) and the crowd was jamming.

People were smiling, grooving in their chairs but not making an ass of themselves which is rare as we all know in London it's either one or the other.

I decided to pay a visit again last night with my flatmate after we left the bar and had a case of the booze munchies. The kitchen was open well past 11 on a Tuesday night, a weeknight rarity indeed, and everything was impeccable. Apart from stunning, our waitor was very friendly and quick and our food was just as great. We shared steamed mussels in a creamy white wine sauce which were served in a cast-iron dutch oven and were literally the size of my fist.

The recommended Voigner was just as great and so were our side dishes, hand-cut chips included. Bill came to just over Â£30 so bargain all around! First of, I am not a big fan of bar chains (for reasons most people are not) but this specific Vodka Rev Bar is a good place to go!

You might actually miss it if you don't know its there as its nestled on a side street which looks like a glorified back ally but once found on a Friday night you can have a lot of fun with a group of friends or work chums.

And that is what you are likely to find on a Friday night in there, a lot of people who work in Soho going for that "thank god its friday" "ONE" drink and end up snogging someone they shound not have 4 hours later (not talking about myself....)

The Vodka cocktail pitchers are a must in my opinion and there are some great ones to choose from my fav being the "absolute chambles" which is basically vodka, sparkling white wine and redbull :-)

The music is loud enough to be enjoyed but not too loud
you need to shout in the person next to yous ear and It seems quite an easy place to strike up a conversation (chat up) and have a good time.

It can be a pain in the bum to get served which is its only real major downside unless you count shutting at 11pm a bad thing.

The Newman Arms is best known for its pies, served both downstairs in the bar and upstairs in a small but cosy restaurant with cheery red checked tablecloths on every table. The food is honest and high quality, serving up British Pie favourites such as Steak and Kidney, Steak and Ale, Chicken and Leek Pies and Apple Pie, Rhubarb Crumble, and Bread and Butter pudding topped with a choice of Ice Cream, Cream or Custard. Service here is friendly and efficient. The menu also has regular specials and vegetarian options (today's included Lamb, Leek and Rosemary and Fisherman's) served with fresh seasonal vegetables all at very reasonable prices.

We arrived at 2pm on a Friday afternoon and had a 10 minute wait for a table for 2. We quickly ordered and I opted for the Lamb and Rosemary as the Special's had sold out. It arrived very quickly in all it's glory, a massive top crust of a pie with perfectly cooked green beans, carrots and light mash. Delicious. I had to follow this with one of their puddings, and since they had run out of Rhubarb crumble and had apple pie, with custard of course.

This place is a must for lunchtime fans of British grub!

My partner and I had our first date in this pub a few years ago, so that's one reason I'm biased towards it but I had been going there for a while before this and continue to visit this lovely little pub. The food is good value for money pub-grub (particularly recommend the pie and chips!) - both the food and drinks are spectacularly cheap (yet decent quality!) for central London, compared to what's on offer around it. The pub is basic and traditional - wooden seats downstairs, with sofas and armchairs in the 'lounge' above, with a large outside seating area. The drinks are great value at just over Â£2 a pint of lager (it's a Sam Smiths pub). The staff are friendly and chatty, which gives it the 'local' feel. It does get busy after weekday business hours with local workers and then it can be hard to find a seat, but Fri and Sat evenings are good. Popped in here on Thursday night with a friend from out of town on the basis of the previous reviews here and was very underwhelmed. The place is in need of a radical refurbishment. It looks old, tatty and dirty. I was asked to take my tie off, which annoyed me as it was part of my outfit. It's not like I was wearing a business suit. This gave me the impression that I was rather over-dressed for the place, which certainly appeared to be the case. It's not a place that anyone should ever bother dressing up for.

The cocktail menu is large and in the dim light almost unreadable. I found a pomegranate martini which seemed acceptable but proved rather dull with very little depth after the first sip. A couple of ladies at the bar ordered a shot each only to find it was some sort of flaming thing. Both of them looked quite disgusted before, during and after drinking it.

I like this bar. It has plenty of space to move around in, high ceilings.. it's a place you can breathe in, even when it's busy. I like the seating options available. There are small bar tables running along the entrance, which are handy when you're there with your partner or just a mate, or there are larger tables in the main bar if you're there with a group of friends.

The place is usually relaxed and chilled out - you can sit with a beer for hours and not feel like you're expected to order food or more drinks or give up your seats for other people.

The crowd is friendly, bar staff are friendly.. good atmosphere. This is a good place to go to during the day.

The food menu isn't too bad but quite pricey for what it is, in my opinion.I like this bar. they serve a lot of types of beers. even some foreign ones. My favorites are the polish ones

thursday day: indian, thai food + beer Â£6.99!

their toilets are huge and always clean.

they also got a huge projector screen for football events. though you better book your place in advance for guaranteed places.

This place is fantastic. Its relaxed and has a great atmosphere. The food is cheap and pretty tasty too and there are lots of drinks to choose from. Its not far from the tube and is a great place to grab a wind down after work pint (or 2). Its a good place for catching up with friends too as there is no loud music to drown out the conversation. They do have lots of TVs though so you can keep watch on the world outside while enjoying your drink.
