Some friends of ours had recommended Dalchini in Norbury "promising a night to remember", so we gave it a try. However overall we were disappointed by a somewhat average fayre.

For starters we ordered chicken spring rolls, lollipop chicken and chilli prawns. We enjoyed the former two items but the prawn dish was a bit bland.

Then for main we had special fried rice, chicken chow mein, szcehuan prawns and manucaurian chicken. The chicken dishes were bland, the rice a bit tasteless. However the prawn dish was not too bad.

Iceland are a big chain of frozen food stores all over the country which offer fair value for money, but offer a limited selection of food at average quality at best. Have pooped in here to pick up a few bits and pieces, but would not say it is my favorite store in the world. If you like ready meals or just do not have the time or energy to cook for yourself then iceland is a god send. How ever I do feel that you can not live on this sort of food all the time. KFC has got to be the best chicken you can find here,I have been everywhere for good chicken but it never tastes as good as it does at KFC.

The food here is simply one of a kind,The chicken is finger licking good like they say about it.I have found the food here to be top class and always come here in my free time.

Along the gritty bustle of Streatham high street, Mrs Wong's will not immediatly catch your eye. Its small, has no exotic name, and looks quite unremarkable. But as the great Confucious once said "a restaurant that emphasises everything, emphasises nothing"

What does that mean? It might mean that Mrs Wongs best features are subtly found inside...and if you're like me, you are going to love being inside Mrs Wong's !

I found Mrs Wongs while walking the High Street with my visiting parents looking for a decent meal, we initially walked by Mrs Wongs as there are many restaurants in that section of Streatham High Street, however based on a complete walkabout of the area, we felt Mrs Wongs customers looked the most content of all the restaurants we had spied on (you know, that akward cup-your-hands-on-the-window-and-stare-at-people-eating thing).

Although this is a chinese restaurnat with all the expected dishes, there are also a number of more authentic and pleasingly fresh and healthy options on the menu. I can tell you that my parents and I are far from culinary experts, but we found the food delicius, promptly served, and very well presetned, with a rather ornate exotic-looking hot plate provided to keep everything warm. And on top of all that there was more food than you could shake a stick at!

Another bonus is you may bring your own booze, with wine available at a local corner store very close. So including some cheap wine and all the food I think our bill for 3 came to just over Â£30!

A very decent price, great food and lovely atmosphere. Thank you Mrs Wong!

Railway Hotel - SW16 nice local pub by hugandkiss

This is a good local in SW16 where admittedly the pickings can be a bit slim. The staff are very friendly, there is a nice beer garden and a big screen in the back room for football. Now they have turned the music down in the front bar it is a pleasant place to have a few glasses of vino from a not too shabby wine list (complete with table service if you want). The food menu is a bit limited and doesn;t change much, but it is good for the price, plus they make a good effort at a Bloody Mary for those wobbly Sunday mornings.

This Pizza Hut in Norbury is quite large actually and does good pizzas and has lots of tables. It serves as main focus for a pizza restaurant and is well seen from the High Street.

You can get take away of course or eat it in and as there are more chicken and fish shops around and not so many pizza alternatives locally or as big, this is a quality place to visit if you both like pizzas and a Pizza hut (or the reliability of a larger chain pizza restaurant).

As the main road is outside you would have to park on a surrounding side road unless you were out of peak hours and just picking up a pizza, otherwise if you live locally in Norbury then you can walk here.

With the credit crunch and more people buying fast food instead of eating more expensive restaurant food, this pizza place should see an increase in traffic. When it gets busy it can get crowded.

This local Sainsburyâ¬"s is opposite the Odeon cinema nearer the top end of Streatham High road. It has bus stops outside and a cash machine and fills in the gap of being a quick place to stop off if you want a pint of milk or a loaf of bread.

This serves the surrounding residential area and of course you can combine it with any of the other shops you may want to visit on the High Road.

Itâ¬"s handy this way and although there is no other major supermarket chain nearby, there is a Lidl and an Iceland and these have more diversity and variety, something this small local cannot really compete with.

Unless you like the Sainsburyâ¬"s products themselves or going to other shops is more of a hassle (or further away from where you live) and if you are just popping into to buy a top up product, then you are better of leaving a main shopping trip for a larger supermarket or one of the other further along the High Road, a couple (mentioned above) are quite close to this local actually.

This Chicken Cottage is one of the fast food outlets you can find all over the place. This one sits on Streatham High Road near the lights near Streatham train station.

Streatham Common station is a rail station at the end of Estreham Road and at the junction where it meet Greyhound Lane.

This station has been steadily improved as it is a widely used by commuters as there are no underground stations locally and so few far south of the river anyway.

This makes Streatham Common station popular and at times crowded.

However, there have been recent developments in the last couple of years and even months.

At the junction of Eardley Road and Streatham Vale, the old entrance at the top end of Eardley Road has had a major refurbishment and is finally open after many years and this takes some of the pressure of the main entrance as well as letting people who need to walk this way having to cross over the narrow pavement on the bridge. This opened just this year after being derelict for many years now. This is good for passengers.

Inside is the ticket machine, display board and ticket office. The ticket office can sometimes get busy so allow for time and getting to the other three train lines is just over the foot bridge which also get you to the Eardley Road entrance if you come from the main entrance side.

With no underground nearby, the train is a good way to travel and this is one line that can get you into Victoria and it doesnâ¬"t take too long either, just half an hour or so, or head south to Croydon and beyond again about half an hour or so to Croydon.

With the improvements and service, a good station all in all.

With Eardley Road being closed (to all but residents) for major works on pipes under the road, for approximately 18 months and as this work has just recently started, the road is now closed and you are better off walking to this station if you can and avoid any diversions or traffic build ups.

Streatham station is located on Streatham High Road, more or less in the centre of this very long High Road, near the bottom of the Hill from St Leonards, at the second set of lights as the road begins to rise again.

It has a small entrance and if it wasnâ¬"t for the large logo and the traffic lights where it is at, you could almost go past it.

There is a kiosk, quite a large one actually for such a small station entrance and a ticket machine and the display boards. The counters are always manned, by at least one member of staff, sometimes two and you donâ¬"t have to wait too long in any queues usually.

To get to the train lines, as you are literally high up, you can are on the bridge and so if just walk along and down to either northbound or southbound trains. From here you van get to Sutton or head north into Kings Cross, both are about thirty minute journeys or so.

This is a popular station used by commuters to get into work in London so is rather busy at peak times and when school kids are coming and going to school.

This pub used to be lovely; nice friendly atmosphere, good pizza, excellent comedy nights, but over the last year or so it has gone really downhill. The food is still good but the atmosphere is loud and rowdy, the bar seems dirty with tables piled high with half drunk glasses. A real shame but it has stopped being my bar of choice in Streatham Common with The Railway or Earl Ferrers being preferable.This pub used to be lovely; nice friendly atmosphere, good pizza, excellent comedy nights, but over the last year or so it has gone really downhill. I love this pub we have only just started using it as it has had a change of management and is actualy a nice place to go now. Pansa Thai was a real find and I'm absolutely delighted we decided to dine there. The decor was traditional and atmospheric and had obviously avoided the need to be 'modern and pretentious'. Instead it felt like a genuine Thai restaurant with comfortable seatings and dark wood decor and carvings. The food was quite simply spectacular and the range of flavours and subtlety of spice took my back to when I lived in Thailand. I haven't eaten so much in ages and could quite happily go back for more! The service was attentive and quick and the bill extremely reasonable. Two of us ate 2 large courses with wine for Â£20 a head and I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Up until this evening, despite having been resident in Streatham for almost three years, Iâ¬"d never visited Spice Cottage. And I know exactly why. These guys keep their Venetian blinds firmly shut at almost all hours, which when coupled with the low lighting typical of a traditional curry house, makes the place appear very unwelcoming - especially given the vibrant curry competition in the area.

I have eaten at almost all of the curry houses on this stretch of the high road and they all offer something slightly different - Spice Cottage is no exception from the rule. The first thing that struck me when I walked in was that the dining room, split in to two sections, was equally as full as any Indian Restaurant in SW16 will have been on a Tuesday evening like this one; not thriving, but definitely doing a trade (if the blinds had been up I wouldnâ¬"t have had to walk in to witness this though!)

Secondly, and impressively I was greeted well. From time-to-time (almost every other night, in truth) I get a powerful urge to eat curry, and if no one is around to join in, that doesnâ¬"t phase me. So tonight I dined alone, which to be honest can be dealt with badly by staff quite easily. E.G. â¬Stable for one pleaseâ¬S. â¬SJust one, sir?â¬

The Rookery is possibly London's best kept secret - Lambeth's at least. It's a beautifully well looked after park, jealously guarded by Lambeth Council parks department, and a place that is well worth a visit. But I'm not here to talk about the park...

The Rookery is also home to The Rookery Cafe, which is one of the dying breeds - a little wooden hut that serves as a cafeteria to visitors. It's a greasy spoon where you can sit and watch the world go by, away from the main road and with outdoor seating for when the weathers nice. The tables are basic, the chairs are hard, and it's not fancy, it's not stylish - it's just nice.

The food here is traditional cafe fare - egg and chips, full English breakfast, bacon sandwiches (with as much as brown sauce as you want!) - and those three alone make this place worthwhile. Tea is in plentiful supply, and coffee and hot chocolate is available too. Service is good natured and friendly. The full English breakfast consists of lots of toast, beans, sausage, bacon, egg and tea or coffee, and it costs Â£3.80. The value! The taste!

A small range of ice creams are also available for those hot summer days, but as well as this they also serve those items that are forgotten in trendier coffee shops - London cheesecake, and scones wrapped in cling film. You know you want one.

We've been going to The Perfect Blend since it was a little coffee shop across the road from where it is now. We've whiled away far too many Sundays reading papers, sipping lattes and americanos and dining on their wonderful breakfast fare.

It's got a wonderful independent feel in this day and age of chain coffee shops.

I know they've branched out into evening meals and sell beer and wine and such, but it'll always be the coffee shop we go out of our way to visit.We've been going to The Perfect Blend since it was a little coffee shop across the road from where it is now. We've whiled away far too many Sundays reading papers, sipping lattes and americanos and dining on their wonderful breakfast fare.

It's got a wonderful independent feel in this day and age of chain coffee shops.

The Fresh Bean Cafe is a very welcome addition to Streatham High Road, not only because of its quality, but because it's another venue that could so easily have been a Starbucks. In fact, Streatham is perhaps unique in not having a single Starbucks, Caffe Nero or Costa, and for that we should be grateful.

The first thing that struck me about the Fresh Bean Cafe is the friendly service - this was extended to all customers, even those arriving five minutes before closing time. One customer, upon asking how much time they had was told "You can have all the time you need" - a lovely gesture which sums up the attitude of the staff.

A deceptively simple menu of sandwiches and other savories belies the fact that you can choose six different kinds of bread or build your own from a wide selection of ingredients. A pause on my part was immediately seized on as a chance to explain the different breads on offer, along with a chance to sample them.

Smoothies, delicious cakes and biscuits and a wide selection of newspapers make the Fresh Bean Cafe my number one choice for a relaxing afternoon. Slurp is local noodle place on Streatham High Road. They serve a variety of Thai, Chinese and Japanese dishes (of varying levels of authenticity) and both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. The food was of a good standard on both of my visits, and the house ramen is excellent. It is also certainly good value for money as mains range from £6 to £9 and they do a lunch special (main and a drink) for £5.50. Service was great when I have visited, though the premises are a little lacking in amtosphere. Probably the best place in the area for a cheap, informal meal. Vegetarian and vegan cafe with generous portions of food. You can eat in or takeaway. They usually have a good selection for their salad bar, daily specials and the standard menu.
