I just came back from Buka Puasa at Jom Makan today, a day before Raya. It was the most uncomfortable meal i have ever had in my life. But i do have some positive and some negative feedback to be fair.

The positive side of thing is that their Satay (with the peanut sauce) is very close to authentic. And so does their beef rendang which was absolutely brilliant. As the dinner was for my Raya celebration, having an authentic beef rendang definitely brought me back home.

The ugly side is, unfortunately, a lot. First of all their Roti Canai.... it did not come with any curry! This is absolutely a let down and a shock to me considering that im a Malaysian eating in a Malaysian restaurant. Although the Roti Canai bread itself is authentic, but there's no point eating Roti Canai without a curry to be dipped with. It wouldn't cost a dime to add a small curry to it and i wonder why they would leave this open for complaint.

But the biggest let down was their staff service, and this is the real reason why I said it was the most uncomfortable meal I have ever had. Their staff kept eyeing on us to make sure we finish our food fast so that we can leave early for their next customers - worse is they made this very obvious. At one point their manager (the bald guy who kept running around) even shouted at us saying that they have customers outside queing and they will lose customers if we dont leave soon (yes, shouted). How can a manager embarrassed us like that in front of other customers while we were having a meal? I have never felt so abused and insulted as a customer. Substitute that with a nice talk we would have left the premise happily.

So no, I will not recommend anyone to come to this place and I will also never return to this place. I was there on friday on a corporate event.

Seems like a fun idea but honestly, think twice.

wasnt too sure at first,litrally a huge warehouse surrounded by more warehouses.. The dining room downstairs is nice, but not very cozy. I felt like being taken 80 years back by the feel of the place (which doesn't always have to be a bad thing). The service was very attentive and discrete at the same time, on the other hand the food was average. We had scallops for the starter and rumpsteak with potatoe skins as the main dish. There was nothing wrong with the food, but nothing special about it at the same time. Wine selection was satisfactory.The dining room downstairs is nice, but not very cozy. I just bought a couple of shirts here for a very decent price - it was winter sale. The staff were also very helpful by chosing the right ties that go with it. Well it is the Ritz after all so we commoners should expect the doorstaff to give us a careful once over on entry, shouldn't we? Ah, but what a place to wander through with the ornate bars and corridors.....and the dining room is absolutely divine dahhling.
We had the three course table d'hote menu and could have let them pick for us as everything appealed. Good food, beautifully cooked; so you can forgive the theatrically synchronised removal of the two silver plate covers as the main courses are 'presented' to us. Resisting the nagging temptation to say 'Aye pal, its me dinner' we soaked up a unique experience. A supplier took us out to Quaglino's tonight. They were a bit annoyed with the service.

The food is not too bad. I ordered the Tuna to start and asked for it well done. I was told that the Tuna was "pre-seared" and couldn't be done well done (maybe I misheard). So I went for the soup which was okay. I then went for the Filet steak medium with chips. It was 4/5.

A colleague went for the same but was told he couldn't have it butterflyed. Admittedly he likes his steaks well-done - some may say overdone - but this is supposed to be a restaurant where the client enjoys themselves.

We were split into two tables despite booking for 20. We arrived as 16, and had trouble getting number 17 sat down.

The waiter tutted us when we were not able to order.

Food was okay, but service exceptionally poor. It needs to be sorted out.

We had to queue for a few minutes at Blossom last week as it was pretty packed (but then it was Friday lunch in the city). The staff were very helpful at repeatedly telling us we had only five minutes, two minutes, one minute, three minutes to wait, and were very efficient at taking our order, too, although how I was meant to have chosen when I'd only had the menu for fifteen seconds I'm not entirely sure.

Still, when we finally got to sit down at our shared bench, and seeing as we were having a "meeting" on my mate's expenses, we went a bit to town on the ordering. It's Korean-Japanese, this place, but I was all out for Japanese and sushi last week. So for starters we went for deep fried chilli squid, which presented itself as tiny rings of very tasty breadcrumb-coated business; the allegedly-pork gyoza were crunchy, cold and entirely tasteless; and the duck salad was worth travelling to Moorgate and back on its own: divine rosy pink slices of melt-in-the-mouth breast draped lovingly over a leafy glass noodle salad. The main-course sushi was boring, however: we both ordered the Makimono selection and were completely uninspired by bland vegetable rolls, salmon/avocado rolls and some other things that were rather heavily sprinkled with bright orange roe, although the tuna maki wasn't half bad.

On the upside, Blossom was not revoltingly expensive (and having not paid for it, at least I felt I hadn't wasted my money on the sushi): all that food and a couple of freshly-squeezed fruit drinks came to 38 quid. It's not as if I'm frequently in the area but if I do ever find myself passing through I'd be tempted to nip in for a couple of duck salads, and I'm curious about the great steaming Korean stew-type things that were going on at the next table. I have two Brigg umbrellas from this shop and have to say they are the strongest sturdiest umbrellas I have ever seen. If I'm honest I "inherited" the first one (a traditional gents full length solid cherry wood shaft umbrella) from a former boyfriend who moved out of my flat, and, when he came back to collect his stuff, the brolly was in my office and not in the flat!! A year or two later I was in London on a stormy day, with a little folding brolly blowing all over the place, and I went into SAB and bought a curved handle golf style brolly which saw me through the rest of the day's wind and rain with no trouble. I walk to work in Brighton every day (about 20 minutes) and the two Briggs are amazing against the winds we get down there, and I am able to use them in even the worst, most violent, weather. Obviously you have to hold on tight against the gusts, and keep the brolly pointing into the storm, but I think the wind would blow me over before it blew out either of the Briggs....

EDIT 20 November 2009 Unfortunatley the wild storm on 14 November was too much for my Brigg golfer. I was shopping with a girlfriend when the stom hit and we decided to go to the Hotel du Vin for a coffee and some shelter - as we walked down Ship Street towards the hotel, the wind and rain just got insane and blew us to a standstill. Even with both of us hanging on for dear life to the brolly to keep it pointing into the storm, eventually the frame just gave way and the brolly collapsed around us.
According to the local news, the wind, at the height of the storm was gusting to approx 70mph!!

By far the best and most inspiring cheese retailer in the UK.
Started by Raldolph and his band of merry troubadours back in the late 70s, this is still the only shop to have a HUGE queue during the last week before Christmas.
They specialise in British cheeses, and now stock Irish ones too.
Many of the Cheddars are ripened in the cellar below the shop. Staff are brilliant, very enthusiastic and generally knowledgeable.
Always ask to taste a cheese you like the looks of - you never know....
They now also stock a great range of breads, sauces, pickles and condiments, with even some imported delicacies.
For cheese accessories and gift you could look elesewhere, although there is a limited (and seasonal?) range available in the shop.

Having never been to wagamamas but hearing lots of good things about it I decided to go there with my boyfriend after obtaining those 2 for 1 vouchers they regularly put up on their website. We were both apprehensive at first as we had never tried japanese food before. The menu at first glace can be a bit daunting but we took our time to pore over the descriptions, the food didn't seem that scary. My boyfriend decided to play it safe and go for a vegetarian fried noodle dish whilst I decided to risk it and ordered noodles in a spicy coconut soup. The only cutlery on the table were chopsticks but we asked for forks and were provided with them. When our food arrived it looked fantastic and smelt wonderful. Mine was a bit too spicy for my liking but the free mug of green tea soon helped to ease the fieryness! The service was great and the staff very helpful in demonstrating how the various strange cutlery that accompanied our food were used. Had food poisoning after visiting this place which lasted a week, so wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless immune to the pathogens that frequent these sorts of places. This is a run of the mill turkish kebbab joint cum restaurant that I made the mistake of visiting when I first arrived in the UK. The cooked food is pre-prepared and is reheated - I actually wouldn't put it past them topping up the same three dishes daily, which is unjygienic to put it mildly. The food didn't taste bad though, and a lot of the locals were in enjoying a meal which is what attracted me and my friend to the restaurant. However given the fact that we both came down with food poisoning this was obviously not a coincidence. Having only a 1bed flat I often book hotels for family and friends when they come to visit. Being london this can be expensive. We are all ware of travelodges good deals, 29 a room if you book in advance. But there are a few of their hotels in london and the quality varies hugely. For example I put some friends up in the covent garden one, it was the old part and it stank! The location was great but I have never been able to fault this one. You may think its not near anything but itâ¬"s a short walk to kings cross and a short taxi ride to anywhere. This used to be a thistle hotel before travelodge aquired it so the rooms have marble bathrooms and are of a much better standard than most travelodges. There is a decent bar downstairs that stays open late too. This is one of the best travelodges for london so if you canâ¬"t decide between them this one is the best quality inside. This is not a very nice place to eat in my opinion. The food was far too spicy and everyone in my group had an upset stomach later in the night. The waiters served us very promptly but it took ages for it to get to us, and it was only warm. I think it may have been sitting around for a while. The naanâ¬"s were disappointing too. They reminded me of Tesco value naans! I thought the chairs and tables were of lower quality as well, and they whole atmosphere put us off going there again. One of out ten for this place. Do not go there please! You have been warned!This is not a very nice place to eat in my opinion. The food was far too spicy and everyone in my group had an upset stomach later in the night. The waiters served us very promptly but it took ages for it to get to us, and it was only warm. I think it may have been sitting around for a while. The naanâ¬"s were disappointing too. They reminded me of Tesco value naans! I thought the chairs and tables were of lower quality as well, and they whole atmosphere put us off going there again. One of out ten for this place. Do not go there please! You have been warned!

Villiers Street is the tiny street between Charing Cross and Embankment, and Pret a Manger is towards the bottom (river) end of this street. Itâ¬"s always packed, but itâ¬"s also always full of lovely food, and helpful staff. I do find Pret the best sandwich shop, as their food is great, and their coffee is good (if not quite as good as Caffe Nero).

I really like the Mocca from Prets - I have visited A LOT of Pret outlets (almost every outlet in London!) and sadly I can state with some confidence that what makes a cup of nectar is the individual staff member, rather than the individual store. Pret is always worth a visit, though!

In my opinion, probably the best hotel in London! The Apex City Of London hotel is located only 5 minutes away from Tower Bridge; with Tower Bridge tube station providing cheap and convenient access to all areas of the city. The rooms are airy and spacious and have luxuries that you'd expected in a five star hotel; bathrobes, luxury toiletries, mineral water and a CD/DVD player are all standard in all rooms. Don't bother with the breakfast in the hotel, there is a Wetherspoon pub located round the corner from the hotel offering great value for money food and drinks.
