I took my girlfriend there on Saturday night and has a nice meal. HOWEVER I was so so shocked that we were rushed out onto the street.

I agree with the two previous reviews. It doesn't look great from the outside, but once you get past that and wander in, the amazing aroma of the most perfect coffee beans just hits you. It has a very cosy and relaxing atmosphere, i almost fell asleep once, it made me so relaxed! Didn't think coffee was meant to have that effect! It tastes so smooth and delicious though, a really creamy taste with even semi skimmed milk and their latte's and cappucino's are to die for! Prices are around average for a coffee shop and the service is also quick and friendly. love it!I agree with the two previous reviews. I really really like Nandos generally. I love chicken so this is the perfect place for me. Especially the grilled type. In this Aldgate branch, the food was to the same high quality that I am used to with other Nandos in London. The rice was fluffy, and had good taste, and the chicken was cooked through (I have on occasion had some not coked properly). In fact it was a bit over cooked, which happens quite often in Nandos, but is better over than under. Overall I would recommend this Nandos, the service was also pretty good, fast and friendly just what I expect.I really really like Nandos generally. Like its sister bar in Exmouth Market, Bar Kick is a cosmopolitan, friendly and trendy place to spend an afternoon or evening. Bar staff are approachable and (in most cases) can mix a decent cocktail. The food menu - a much expanded version of the tapas at the other place - looked tempting but I have to admit I wasn't there to eat. We spent an hour and a half in the darkened basement watching the footie, and were grateful for the expanse of seating and thoughtful placing of flatscreen TVs. This is a fabulous little independently run shop. They have so many different things for sale here, i really don't think my review will adequately be able to describe how fantastic it is stepping into this shop! The smells of all the different types of food hit you are one and the aromas are delicious. The cakes from here are some of my favourite - so light and fluffy, or chocolately and scrummy! Prices are more expensive that those you would be from the supermarket but you are getting a better quality product with a service that is fantastic! This is the spiritual home of the cup cake, or so they would have you believe! I have to say that after trying them, i am now a devoted believer! There is nothing i enjoy more than praying to the altar of Crumbs and Doillies and my prayers are always answered with the most delicious tasting cakes the chef god can create. I can't tell you how delicious they are, its worth selling your soul to enjoy a lifetime of sweet tasty goodness that are for sale here! When the birthday boy (BB) requested a meal at a nice restaurant where he could have a decent martini and a more than decent steak, Hawksmoor sprang to mind. From what I had read, it sounded like the perfect place for both. And it sure was.

We arrived early evening and slipped onto a comfy stool at the bar. Cocktails decided on, we relaxed at the end of a hectic week, really enjoying our perfectly mixed beverages. The place was fairly quiet at that stage, but the restaurant filled up as the night continued.

After drinks we moved to our table and had to decide just how big a piece of meat we could eat. We laughed (a little nervously) when we read on the menu - "Some people have mentioned that our cuts are on the big side - we hope you can forgive us."

I opted for the 400g Rib-eye, while BB went for the 600g Bone-in Sirloin. The steak just comes by itself, so sides are required - we ordered the Triple Cooked chips, the Honey-roasted vegetables, and the Macaroni Cheese. The steak was pretty expensive but so worth it. Lovely char-grilled flavour, rare and flavoursome. Very excellent pieces of meat. The sides were tasty too, though I did think that the Macaroni Cheese was over-priced. A big, full bodied bottle of Australian red wine complemented our meals perfectly.

Somehow we managed to clean our plates and still find room to share a dessert - the Chocolate Fudge Sundae. It was so delicious - ice cream, brownie chunks, crispy peanut brittle bits, chocolate sauce. Yum.

Little remains of Brick Lane's Jewish past except for the famous two remaining bagel shops that neighbour each other at the end of the street. 24 hours a day you can satisfy your hunger with bagels filled with of mounds of soft delicious salt beef or smoked salmon and cream cheese, and again, 24 hours a day!

Late night drinking at Shoreditch house can often lead to a stumble to the busy bakery and waking up at home with 20 bagels and a shirt covered in English mustard (Have you ever tried to pay a cabbie in bagels... I am told I have more than once). The salt beef here is good, but certainly not the best in London. The Brass Rail Salt Beef Bar at Selfridges ranks highly as does B&K in Edgware. Harry Morgans chain not nearly as good as either but still quality. The staff are typically East London and I love it.

This is one of my favourite places to go, not necessarily because of the high quality of fish and chips (though they are very good), but because of the couple who run the place. I used to live around the corner and they've been there for years. They really like to interact with their customers and are part of the community feel of the place-- some of the friendlist people I've met in London.

Went to Rosa's on a recommendation and it was all it was cracked up to be! Food was delicious (personal favourite was the Salmon), atmosphere was friendly, vibrant and non-pretentious and it was reasonably priced.

Considering that their speciality is sausages, I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed on my first visit to this place. I had the traditional pork sausages, which were finely ground and tightly packed, feeling as if they had just a little bit too much fat and gristle in them. What's more, the mash was not as good as the mash we make at home. It was lumpy, which is inexcusable!

The name of this pub is actually the Water Poet...though many people simply call it the Poet. As my local I am obviously obliged to produce a biased review - but after hearing rave reviews from all friends I bring to the pub, I think I can honestly give an objective view.

Put simply, an excellent pub in the heart of the Spitalfields area and (perhaps) the only beer garden in all of Shoreditch. The pub is absolutely massive and goes on and on...you'd think the front room was all there was to be seen, of course there are about 4 other massive rooms, an events venue downstairs, and a massive gardne out back to while away a Sunday afternoon.

The beer selection is solid but unexciting. At least Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Flower's IPA are usually on offer (however a few additional Belgian beers would be a welcome improvement). Food is good as well - but this is the kind of pub you come to to drink and hang out with friends...

The Commercial Tavern is one of the best ub that I go to in London. Situated in Shoreditch, the Commercial Tavern is a very quirky and quaint pub on 2 floors. The design inside is amazing! Walls made of puzzle pieces, Noddy wall paper, antique mirros on the ceilings and knomes hanging around. Its great fun and you'll always notice something new each time you go.

The staff are very friendly and make you feel at home. There's no pretentiousness at the Commecial Tavern which makes it a great place to have a drink. Theres plenty of space and if its nice weather then you'll find that everyones outsides. It can get very busy towards the weekend so arrive early to get a table. You can reserve areas.

The last thing that makes it great is the music. You can find yourself drinking to the opening song from the sound of music!

I stayed at this four star hotel on New Years Eve, as I was attending a group dinner at the Globe Restaurant on the top floor that night. (Great view, laughably inept service but friendly and apologetic.)

Wanting to book a room for later that same day, I initially rang the main reservations number for the Crown Plaza hotel group - a hub for bookings, based goodness knows where. I was told that the Shoreditch hotel was fully booked that night, but a hunch made me ring the hotel reception directly to check. Bingo! They were very surprised to hear that they were fully booked, and were pleased to offer me a room. You might want to try this trick yourself if you're booking at short notice and can't find any reduced rate deals online.

On arrival, I was a bit miffed to discover that I'd been allocated a smoking room. At my request, they moved me to a non-smoking double in a quiet location at the back of the building. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, although set up for business use which, as a New Years party-goer, I didn't need. Coming down for my coat just before midnight, I found my card-key had stopped working, so was obliged to see in the New Year out on the seventh floor rooftop terrace shivering like a jelly. Reception were later able to sort this out for me - the key, that is, not the shivering.

Breakfast the next morning, notwithstanding my hangover, was a delicious buffet affair. There was the traditional hot selection, toast, cereals, juices, and a continental selection of bread, cheeses and ham, plus croissants and pastries. I hardly knew where to start. Attracting the waiter's attention for more black coffee proved difficult though.

Note that their literature likes to suggest that the closest tube station is (the very attractive) Liverpool Street. The closest is actually (the hideously ugly) Old Street, which is worth knowing if you're lugging a suitcase.

All in all a comfortable if corporate hotel, with polite staff and a great view from the restaurant. The lack of single rooms is a travesty though - not only are none available, a room is the same price whether there's one or two of you using it. Haz offers a modern turkish fare and is quite popular amongst city workers. The interior is nice and there is plenty of space. But,it can get very busy during lunch. If you area big group, getting a reservation done in advance is a good idea.

The food is not very spicy and there are plenty to choose from. The lamb kofte are excellent. There are also lot of casseroles options available. Vegetarians have a smaller menu but I was told by my "veggie" friend that it was allright.

The food is reasonably priced and the quality is good. Service is little slow (i guess due to the lunch time rush).

Just off brick lane, the Vibe Bar is a trendy and fun place to be. A sunny afternoon is the perfect day to visit as you can enjoy the sun in its outside seating area. Lahore Kebab House is one of the best curry houses in london. Located in Aldgate, it is almost always full and there is sometimes a wait to get a table. The interior is nothing special and the place is very noisy (lots of diners, bollywood music on the TV screens). The Lamb Chops and Sheekh Kebabs are favourite for starters. A special dish is Lamb Nihari, but its not on offer always. Try it if its available.

The food is reasonably priced and the service is ok given that the staff are always busy. The Ambience is not that great but the food makes up for it and you have to bring your own alcohol, which is a plus for those on budget.
