I used to walk passed this bakery/confectioner on my way to and from work, peering in longingly at the delicious cakes in the window, like a 19th century street urchin. And it looks like just that kind of shop too, on the corner or a cobbled street, with little panes of glass and everything beautifully presented and tied up in ribbon. The cakes are very very good, and there's a huge variety. They also produce various breads, scones, pastries and sweets. At lunch, there's often a queue out the door for sandwiches and salads - a small menu that changes daily. This is a modern 'canteen' restaurant with hard wood bench or breakfast bar style seating arrangements.

The food is an excellent choice of staples (including freshly baked bread and soup) and tried and trusted favorites such as risotto, pasta, chille con carne, shepherds pie or quiche type options.

There is a 'serve your own' selection of salads as well as a choice of delicious home baked puddings.

I have only been here at lunchtime and for me it has the ideal combination of being quick, tasty, reasonably priced and catering to the local community and office workers.

If you ever find yourself strolling around the South Bank on a sunny day and feel like something sweet or savoury, head towards Gabriel's Warf where you'll find House of Crepes. They serve a variety of sweet and savoury crepes from ones with Nutella spread to a near full english breakfast.

Prices aren't cheap but not crazy, for example I had the Nutella crepes for £3.50. They have plenty of seating outside which fills up quite rapidly during the sunny days.
