I've always been a travelodge person when it comes to staying in budget accommodation, but as I couldn't get in to one for a family weekend in London, we decided to take a chance on this hotel. All I can say is that we were very impressed. The room was of an excellent standard, and the bed - well it was probably better than our one at home - so comfy! We took the kids and had a family room. Beds rolled out from underneath the main bed on each side for each of the kids, meaning that most of the floor space was covered, but as the kids are young it was fine. The TV has all the freeview channels, and the bathroom facilities were excellent.

Service at check-in/out was great. They gave the kids sweets while we were waiting and little rucksacks to take away. It also had a restaurant in it where breakfast was served (definitely recommended, with kids eating free), which also provided good value evening meals. The location is excellent. You're 5 mins walk from the tube, and the tube line is only 3 or 4 stops from the heart of the west end. In addition, there's a Tesco Metro just round the corner, good if you're trying to keep the costs of your visit down.

We stayed at the Hotel Russell for one night and found the rooms to be very small compared to the price that we paid. Dining area was fabulous and breakfast was a full English that we enjoyed. The Hotel Russell overlooks Russell square gardens which have excellent views but there can be quite a lot of traffic around there (typical of most of London however). Staff and lobby area were excellent. The hotel is also very close to Russell Square and Tottenham Court Road tube stations - handy for shopping and theatre breaks. can't believe this hasn't been reviewed already!
I have given this 5 stars for what it is, not because it is five star luxury!
This is your basic hostel but what a hostel! Cheap and cheerful to the max! You get what you pay for! Basic rooms with bunk beds and lockers, basic showers and amenities. Not basic fun and service! It's excellent! The staff are all so helpful, everyone is friendly..as per usual in a hostel! Tere is a small licensed club downstairs and internet facilities which are reasonably priced!
This place isn't luxurious or beautifully decorated but it's fun, it's cheap, it's clean, it's in London and the staff will help you all you want. If you want a five star hotel with fluffy towels and room service..forget it! if you want somewhere cheap, basic and safe to stay in London while sightseeing..and you don't mind sharing a room ( although you can get rooms to yourself etc if booked well in advance)...this is the place to go!can't believe this hasn't been reviewed already!

Plush thistle hotel in a beautiful old fashioned building. You walk into a high ceilingâ¬"d hallway with chandalleris and into what would have been an old drawing room on the left (and it is still done out as such with old fashioned heavily upholstered furniture) to the reception desk. The service is professional as you would expect from a hotel of this caliber. The room we stayed in had a view of a brick wall out of the window but aside from that it was plush with dressing table and chair and a posh bathroom. The hotel bar is very posh and has a long granite bar and a good selection of decent wines and it is open very late. Breakfast is quite something here and includes every kind of englsih breakfast item cooked to perfection. Probably the best hotel i have ever stayed in. The hotel is modern and appears very new. My room was in great condition and the bed was extremly comfy - i have a bad back.
The bathroom contained a large bath which i used most nights!
The restarant provides top quality food at a good price - the staff are very helpful although they lost my luggage taking it up to my room! But they promptly found it and gave me some money off vouchers to make up for it!
The TV in my room was top quality which is unusual for a hotel and even had freeview digital channels!Probably the best hotel i have ever stayed in. The hotel is modern and appears very new. My room was in great condition and the bed was extremly comfy - i have a bad back.

Clean rooms but small, used to have mini bars but have been removed on my latest visit. Staff is friendly and very helpful. I've no idea what the hotel is like, I hope it's lovely, but I went into their bar for a few drinks at an event and was horrified. Â£4.50 for a bottle of larger form the fridge, plus a 12% service charge. Thats 12% covers the cost of having a for a quiff touting failed male model who ignores you, finally takes your order, sniffs at not getting to show off his bar flair because you only ordered a beer and then opens the bottle and places it on a napkin on the bar top.

The actual room itself (sorry - two rooms - there is an annex at the back for events) are about the size of my hotel room, brightly lit with low hanging lightbulbs, and amazingly noisy because the walls are paneled. There was food available, but given that a gin and tonic was nearly a tenner all in, I couldn't have afforded the petit-pois on ryetoast, or whatever nu-cuisine rubbish they were selling.I've no idea what the hotel is like, I hope it's lovely, but I went into their bar for a few drinks at an event and was horrified. This place is a real 'gem' - a home away from home and when i stay in london one of the few places that offers centrality, proximity to Waitrose (which lets face it IS important!), trendy bars and the like of Russel Square, and all on the Piccadilly line and walking distance of Covent Garden, the British Museum and Oxford Street.

As a postgraduate student the value for money for a place to stay in london is really rather good. Ok not the cheapest compared to hostels , but for a space that is in central london, safe , clean , hospitable and a mere stumble from the British library and decent night life you can't go wrong.

Rooms are always clean, with fresh towels, free wireless, access to private gardens opposite the town houses of the Good Enough and more than enough room to swing a cat. Only once have i been 'disappointed' by the room selection with a room that was on the small side of tiny, but still with its own ensuit and fresh linen i'm splitting hairs.

In short if you are looking for convenience that does not cost the earth this is the place to stay. book in advance though as room seem to be booked way ahead , espcially during the week. If you have the opporutnity to go on the 'wait list' for a room its well worth a shot as conference goers tend to book far in advance and en mass and so there are often mass cancellations that one can take advantage of.

There is a slightly annoying phone system to navigate to get to talk to the front desk and reservation line, but persevere you will not be disappointed! This is a classy and cleanly establishment well worthy of the name 'good enough'. Stay and enjoy!
