It was a small grill but did have the unmistakable smell of charcoal.
The meat itself was of a good quality with a nice smokiness obtained via the charcoal.
The salad was very fresh and the pita bread also just right.
The chilli sauce was not up to the other parts though; it was thin and sugary sweet.

Service wise they are efficient if not particularly friendly. If they could do a decent homemade sauce I would rate them above average but as it is I doubt I will go there again as I know of many other places I prefer, if only for the Hot sauce! This is a small kebab shop that has quite a few tables and chairs tucked away in the back considering its size.

I ordered the Lamb Shish and was pleased to observe they did not cut into it during the cooking process as this loses a lot of the lamb's flavour and juices. I normally opt for the Mixed (Lamb & Chicken) Schwarma which is of a decent standard that is comparable to other Lebanese eateries.
The Chilli sauce is nothing special and as with a fair amount of Schwarma outlets there seems to be a "One size fits all" policy that means they tend to build all Scwarmas the same unless you make a point of being specific about sauces and so on. This means a Lamb Schwarma regularly gets Sesame sauce (which I don't like) and Garlic sauce and a Chicken version gets just the Garlic sauce.
A small amount of salad is also standard for both types. The Garlic sauce/mayo is rather good however and goes very well with their grilled chicken wings. Chips are a hit and miss affair - sometimes they are just right, other times under or over cooked. Consistency varies, sadly.

I now live in Chiswick so I seldom order from these guys anymore. I would still recommend Lebanese Taverna though, especially if you are sitting at home with a few mates watching a game on the box and fancy ordering in, they seem to have a large delivery radius too. Service on the phone, delivery and the one time I walked in have always been fast & friendly. The Lebanese Taverna on Fulham Palace Road does a fairly standard Schwarma.
It is not quite as good as Al Dar or the Maroush/Ranoush Juice/Beirut Express mini chains but is along the same lines.
They do deliver to the surrounding areas though and therefore many times I have ordered from them as opposed to having a Pizza, Indian or Chinese sent.

The Lamb Shish, normally a favourite from other Kebab Places, has rather large cubes of lamb that are not particularly tender or juicy but are still fair quality being lean with no fat. In my country though, we tend to wrongly qualify them as "Chinese" restaurants and they tend to be associated to small, dodgy though convenient restaurants where you may order a take-away but would never expect to discover a culinary jewel.

As a result, I was kind of reluctant when my better half suggested to go out for a Vietnamese restaurant that night. Sorry, but clichés are long-lasting. Anyway, the surprise was total from the moment we stepped in. The colonial decoration and the super-trained staff suddenly raised the bar. Obviously this place had nothing to do with what I knew about Vietnamese cuisine and kind of expected.

The ambiance is kind of romantic despite the proximity of the tables. The candlelight, the darkwood pannels... everything contributes to focus on your opposite number who happened to be as surprised as I was by the extensive menu in front of us. Starters, soups, traditional mains and specials, all witha great diversity and superb advice from the staff who help you make the right choice, depending on your tastes.

Reall enjoyed the food, and the portions were enough to stuff me. All was perfectly tasty, with this little twist that set the cuisine appart from the other South East Asian food.

The restaurant also offers a lounge downstairs which can be privatised, but the upstair dining area is a treat in itself.

A very good destination if you happen to be around Chiswick. As a French, I am used to vietnamese restaurants. The waitress immediately warned us that this Sufiâ¬"s special would take at least 15 minutes and would we like any appetisers? We decided not to have any, worried about the size of this just might overwhelm us.

As they seemed very worried that we had not ordered any appetisers for the wait, they soon brought over some yogurt with sweet garlic with freshly baked flat nan bread, complimentary for the wait. The warm flat bread, topped with sesame seeds, had been just baked in the oven by the window and the yogurt was a wonderful cold, creamy contrast. Delicious and a good sign of things to come.

The Sufiâ¬"s special for 2 consisted of one skewer of marinated chicken (joojeh kebab), one skewer of baby lamb fillet (kebab barg) and two skewers of minced lamb kebabs (kebab koobideh) served with grilled tomatoes and two plates of basmati rice, one for each of us.

All the meats were so tender and wonderfully flavourful. The minced lamb kebabs had a slightly different spicing to what I was used to but this didnâ¬"t make them any less delicious. The chicken was breast meat, my least favourite cut of the bird, but was so juicy and well marinaded that I snarfed it up. The lamb fillet, well, it was gorgeous - what else can I say? The rice was fluffy and well separated as most Persian rice is but while the tomatoes are normally my favourite part, these could have been a little riper. Still it was a great platter of meat and the waiter exclaimed great surprise that we were able to put away the whole thing between the two of us.

Despite the size of that platter, we still found room to share a small dessert. This is their homemade coconut pudding made with milk, coconut, rosewater and pistachios. It was creamy and flecked with many flakes of dried coconut. Who knew that coconut and rosewater went well together?

All this plus a large bottle of still water came to £30. Pretty good for the feast we had - definitely on my to-return list. The easiest way to get there is to either take the tube to Hammersmith and then take a 266 (it starts at Hammersmith bus station) to Askew Road or take the 207 bus from Shepherdâ¬"s Bush and walk down from the Askew Road stop.

Did I mention the belly dancer? She came and danced a 15 minute set (this was a Friday night) and if you want to watch the performance, make sure you get a table towards the back.

Photos at the blog post: http://tamarindandthyme.wordpress.com/2008/09/16/sufi-persian-food-in-west-london/I had been thinking about Persian food all week and when I learned of this budget restaurant Sufi (with great reviews) not too far from us, I took Blai there for dinner one night.

We ordered the platter for two. An institution in my family.

This building was originally a public loo, not that you'd know it now. It's had two owners since opening in the mid 90s, both of whom are/were lovely. I used to walk past it on the way to school and call in occasionally when nature dictated. Sad as I was to see the loos go, life would have been less fun had La Piccola not appeared in the loo's place.

Look beyond the appearance. The decor hasn't been updated for a while - it's the food you're here for. Pay particular attention to the specials board where the lamb diavola and steak boscaiola are particularly popular with me and my guests. These are more expensive than the menu, but worth paying extra for if you like your meat. Also ask for the raddichio/pancetta salad. Not on the menu these days but they'll do it if they have the ingredients and you ask nicely. Heaven in a starter.

Menu items are very good value too. I've paid much more for worse meals in soho - am thinking the likes of Little Italy. In these financially-afflicted times, this place is a real godsend for a good value night out. The salsiccia (spicy sausage), penne padrino and salmon fettucine are all recommended.

Best calzone you'll find for miles. And if you're really nice you might get a shot of Amaretto with the bill, particularly if you speak nicely of Napoli, the owner's team.Friendly local place, perfect for your local favourite restaurant. Frankly, sometimes I go in and I'm one of 2-3 other tables in the whole place... Maybe not a place for a first date.. but catching up with an old friend or family, Green Chilli is your place!

Despite its shortcomings on decor, Green Chilli's food is outstanding and authentic. The menu is very extensive (almost to the point of being overwhelming with all the yummy-sounding choices!) - offering various meats, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. Their prawn tandoori dish is exceptional.

Service is excellent - attentive, but leaving you some space.

For the money, Green Chilli is a great choice. If you live within 15-20 minutes of Ravenscourt Park, it is worth a trip!

Okay - so it is not the greatest ambience you've ever seen. Although the restaurant is a little hard to spot, as it has no signs or boards out front, I was surprised how accomodating the restaurant was and how well nice the staff were.

The food was great and i am sorry if the other guests found us noisy, but hey its not everyday that 14 old uni friends meet and all of us throughly enjoyed our evening.

All in all I think the resturant has won itself 14 repeat customers...
I was at this tiny resturant on Saturday night with a group of friends. The waiters seem to be part of the family and it certainly has that feel. The food arrived very quickly and waiters were not too intrusive and of good nature. The price was rather steep but it has to be expected from that area and would recommend it to any one who wants not just a typical good curry but a realy culinary Indian experience. The deserts were wonderful, Iâ¬"ve never had such delicious sweet dishes in an Indian style restaurant in my entire life. I hope you can one day treat yourself to this award winning restaurant! They certainly put a lot of food on your plate, you just can't finish it all.
