Two words come to mind when i think of the Venue: Pure Cheese. I've had many good nights out here although the floor's a little sticky from spilled drinks. The crowd is very young even for me (being 23 years old) but a great place to dance the night away. There's a good relaxed care-free atmosphere here and I've never seen trouble at this club. There's plenty for everyone here with four floors of music and bars. There's loads of cover bands, such as ; Queen, the Beatles, the Killers, Smiths, Wham, RObbie Williams, ABBA, Madonna... and many more. It's Â£7 on Fridays (Â£3 before 10pm), Â£12 on Saturday (Â£5 before 10pm) - I recommend it!

Noodle King is really, really cheap. Unfortunately the time I went there I felt horribly ill for several hours afterwards, even though I picked out all the alarming looking defrosting shellfish out of my noodles. It's a bit like eating in a McDonalds but with less character, and everything is really greasy. It's a popular option with local kids because of the prices. They have a buffet thing going on at the back which I haven't tried, though it seems pretty popular... to be honest the 'a la carte' (ha) prices are so low that I don't think there's much difference. I would recommend this if you only had a few quid on you, aren't remotely fussy and don't get sick easily.Noodle King is really, really cheap. Normally with a local restaurant this good I'd keep quiet, but to be honest they're fully booked every night anyway so it won't make much difference! This tiny Malaysian restaurant in a grotty bit of Deptford (by Deptford Bridge DLR) serves utterly beautiful Malaysian food. Run by a couple (Ambrose and Linda) who make absolutely every visitor feel amazingly welcome (honestly, he knows most of the customers by name), the service is fab and the food is great value. I haven't managed to work my way through the whole menu yet, but standouts so far are the drunken chicken (beautifully flavoured with ginger) and the sambal dishes. The noodles and just simple things like dumplings are excellently done. Brilliant Turkish restaurant serving grills, Turkish pizzas and more. All grills are served with a huge plate of salad and tasty Turkish bread. I highly recommend the cop ÅxiÅx and the adana kofte. The lahmacun is also really taste and great value. The place is permanently busy so do book ahead. They also do a takeaway service but to be honest the eat-in experience is better (I think they put more sauces on the salads or something). Only ever had beer there so Iâ¬"m not sure about the wine list, but everything else at Meze Mangal is great â¬ highly recommended.Brilliant Turkish restaurant serving grills, Turkish pizzas and more. If ever there was a pub trying to keep its head above water this is it. With the brake down of communitys in the area which were the only thing keeping local pubs alive, this one did not move with the times, even if it tried to now i fear it would be all too late. The landlord is a welcoming kind of person, but with so few customers i guess anybody walking through the doors is welcome. The decor is tired and worn, it is a museum to the hay day of local pubs, except the locals have all grown up, sold up, and moved on. Im sorry to say it may be time to shut the door on this one, but dont forget to put the cat out first.If ever there was a pub trying to keep its head above water this is it. At one point in time i used to be a regular in this pub, i would make a nightly pilgrimage here from greenwich, alas no more, it used to be a loverly pub lots of regulars everyone knew everyone, and newcomers were always made to feel welcome, not the best range of beers in the world and god awful lager but the atmosphere more than made up for that. So what went wrong, we seemed to have a lot of different managers come into the place after our long standing Graham left. It would seem i cant submit a review without giving at least one star, believe me that is being generous. If for whatever reason you happen to be in deptford and driving down tanners hill (well it is one way now) for gods sake keep going,I would like to say i have never been in a pub as bad as this but alas i have, never the less i walked in and it was like entering a cowboy saloon where you walk in and the music stops everyone stops talking and they all look around at you, in the film you order a drink and everyone carries on what they were doing, not in here i ordered a drink and thought im going to die any moment, i have never drank a drink so fast, im sure i heard the music start again as i walked out the door.It would seem i cant submit a review without giving at least one star, believe me that is being generous. Just along Lewisham Way from Goldsmith's, the Rosemary Branch is somewhat of an antithesis of the brash drinking dens of New Cross proper boasting a proper beer garden and a wide, open bar area.

Whilst never going to set the world alight, the Rosemary Branch does what it does well which is as a nice, quiet place for a pint with mates. The clientele is made up of locals and students and is generally friendly and relaxed.

Beers on tap are nothing particurlarly special, but they did (at my last visit) have Coors on draught which I thought was a bit of a novelty. Whilst New Cross has plenty of places to drink, there's a somewhat huge variation in quality...

The Walpole is, however, quite a decent place and a darn sight better than many other pubs within staggering distance. Proximity to Goldsmith's College keeps the crowd fairly bohemian and hip whilst the food is often better than many of the dedicated eateries in New Cross.

Nice ambience inside which is only tempered by the fact that it is located on the A2 and as such the constant traffic drone means it's not the mos serene venue in town. There is a mini outside/smoking area out front too, but given the heavy traffic it's of limited appeal.Whilst New Cross has plenty of places to drink, there's a somewhat huge variation in quality...

Whilst you'd have thought the proximity to Goldsmith's College would've endowed the Marquis of Granby with some modicum of cool or at least a clean carpet goddammit, you'd have thought wrong...

No, the MoG is pure, unreconstructed SE London Irish warts n'all. All of this, of course, is fine in theory. Some of the best pubs, after all, are those that keep the traditional character (such as The Stagg off Great Georges Street in Dublin f'instance), but at times this place resembles an irresonsible daycare centre for drunks. Having an unmolested quiet pint is a hit and miss affair with the mere presence of students causing so much resentment to some of the regulars that the mere appearance of anyone not under 50 or from Galway can instantly spark a bit of ugly language and unwarranted attention.

The landlord himself is a decent enough type, but his wife seems to resent anyone daring to use the pub and support their livelihood. I've often seen her refuse service to newcomers on ground best known to her own stupid face.

It's a shame really as it's in a top spot and really has a lot of potential in it given a bit of TLC (hence the second star). Beers are all garden variety and a slightly tired pool table. Michael's home cooked Ugandan meals are a delicious reminder of Central Africa. Located a few steps from Deptford High Street, it's a great place to step back into Africa and enjoy some katago, matoke and nyama choma. The decor is nothing special but the food more than makes up for it. And if you're in a rush, call ahead, Michael makes everything from scratch so be prepared to have a few beers while you wait. This is a truly eclectic pub/music venue. The interior is in some ways reminiscent of a pirate's ship, with its candlesticks, skulls, flags...but also of Steptoe and Son's scrapyard: a horse-drawn carriage is stationed at the far end of the pub, filled with tatty board games to which you can help yourself. There's clutter everywhere, and its great.

At the bar you'll not be served by anyone under the age of 65. The lovely ladies pour a great pint and will always have quick natter if they're not rushed off their feet, which they often are as this place can get packed to the rafters on band nights.

The bands vary from ok to excellent, and many making a name for themselves now have played here. Its never more than a fiver to get in, and its cheaper for students as far as I'm aware.

Its not glamorous, there's no heated seating area outside, no telly, and the toilets are a bit grim. But this place is one of a dying breed of unique pubs. Many of the old New Cross drinking dens have been sterilized (Goldsmiths' Tavern, RIP) so visit this place whilst we're still lucky enough to have it. This is a truly eclectic pub/music venue.
